Fixed. Idk Murrica, but here in Europe, you can follow a lot of particular sellers of ntsc-j stuff and it's great getting notifications "10 euros cheaper" every two weeks because they are starting to caught on the fact nobody will pay more than 20 euros for a Japanese game.

Nobody fricking wants the Japanese version of games, even the ones that are region free. It's purely a market fabricated by idiots who don't even play video games thinking with a Tulip/Tea market mindset.

The moment a homosexual anywhere tries to upsell a common game because it's in Japanese, I straight up tell them it's worth $10 and not a penny more. They get so fricking frustrated when somebody tells them how it is. It's even more fricking hilarious when you get into things like the Japanese versions of Yugioh and Pokemon cards... the only people these scammers end up selling to are naive parents who also think from a tulip/tea market mindset because they're ignorant boomers who think Edison was a witch. All they know is "my child likes video game, and video game was made in Japan, so it's more authentic somehow!"

Wasn't just the 90s, devs kept releasing 50hz-only games all the way through the PS2. Many major PS2 games like DMC, Kingdom Hearts and FFX still ran 17% slower. Despite the PAL PS2 supporting 60hz.

The first Playstation was called PSX on every official Playstation magazine. You'd know this if you were actually able to read back then.

Nobody called it the PSX until the PS2 was announced.

When PS2 was out everyone called it PSOne. Which was the new model. I remember reading they called it PSX because PS was too close to PC.

Magazine codes were restricted to three letter keys. The Gameboy was DMG. Gamecube was NGC. Xbox was XBX. The PlayStation was PSX for, "Play Station eXperience", which is why the West calls the cross button the "ecks button" on the PlayStation; SCEA kept marketing the cross button in advertising as being an X.

That's not why I call it the Ex-Button. I call it that because it looks like the letter "x" in the alphabet.
But why is the Gameboy DMG?

                >The Gameboy was DMG.
My exposure to magazines at the time is pretty limited but I don't think I've ever seen a magazine use DMG instead of GB. Official model numbers and accessories used DMG-XX, I know that much.

Dot Matrix Game. "DMG-XX" is in reference to individual game cartridges, with "XX" being whatever the two character alphanumeric letters/numbers that followed.

                >"DMG-XX" is in reference to individual game cartridges
It's both actually. As far as I can tell, games used letters (which I just learned today) and accessories used numbers.

The original playstation was called neither psx nor ps1, just playstation. PS-X was the codename of the project which was later dropped to differentiate it from PC-FX. But the name PSX already spread in the media, despite no longer being official and PS only added 1 to the name because of 2.

The timing will still be slightly off unless your system has a NTSC clock capacitor hardmodded in. The best option for PAL region is to softmod a compatible PS2 with mechapwn, will run any PS1 games at the correct speed (including burned discs).

I've bought a PS1, PSOne, a PS2 fat, a PS2 slim, a GC, and a Dreamcast from Japan, plus 3 Vitas, 3 PSPs, and 1 new 3DS LL plus a TON of games for each for fairly cheap. Dreamcast and PSOne haven't arrived yet, but everything else has and I've been playing them all a lot
It's kind of outrageous how expensive old games are in the US. In Japan you can pay like 1000-1500 yen for multiple boxes full of old games, meanwhile in the US israelites try to charge you like 20-50 bucks for a single game

if i was a rich sociopath I would setup a system of employees who would buy millions of these until I possess everything then I would pretend to destroy all of them except 100 to increase their price to like 5000 dollars, then people would buy it from people who hoarded it for 5k, then I would reveal that I didnt destroy anything and sell them for 1$, and collectors and speculators would be mad for wasting their money. would serve them right. anyway

I don't understand why people born after the year 2000 enjoy roleplaying as Millennials online and then getting into arguments over commonly known details that are demonstrable facts. I can appreciate a five year old putting on his father's clothes and being all like, "whoa hey I'm mister big business man, cancel my meetings, raise my salary" but when someone in their early to mid 20s is fricking doing it on Ganker, it's just fricking weird.

Most PS1 games where coded to compensate for the lower Hz.
FF7 and 8 run at the right speed in PAL versions, FF9 for some reason doesn't, I'm assuming because the main team was working on FF10 at that point.
CMR 2.0 is a very weird case, it runs at the correct speed in the PAL version, but for some reason runs SLOW in the NTSC version. How they managed to frick that I up I don't know.
