Brawl minus is also some good fun. I'd place it below melee. PMEX remix is also fun for parties. It's just PM with a very large roster. Some very high quality stuff, some mediocre.
Only zoomers think Brawl is the best because it was their first smash in elementary school.
That said the hype leading to it WAS the best. Nothing beat Ganker in Japan time and I am realizing as I am typing that that almost no one here is old enough to remember the Ganker threads in 2007/8......
Smash Bros Dojo hype was unreal. The daily updates had friends and I pumped for soooo many months.
Melee > PM > 4 > 64 > Brawl > Ultimate for me.
Though I give respects to Brawl. It may have not been the best game, but it was a hype event to see released.
Sakurai has hinted he is working on it. I'd be shocked if we don't see an announcement at the switch 2 launch direct for a launch within the next year.
Where the fuck has he hinted anything other than "im fucking done".....Ill wait. The reality of the situation is that bamco developed and oversaw much much much more of Smash ultimate than most initially thought, and frankly, Id love for bamco to do their own smash fighting game crossover where every character has similar weight to the fighting game reps. Fighters only smash is fucking kino with friends
He literally said only he could lead smash bros right now and the series would die otherwise and it would be about time to start developing another one on his youtube channel and smirked.
I know you're autistic but even you could pick up on that one.
bro was barely present for ultimate, if anything hes misdirecting you for an exclusively bamco developed smash >BUT MUH JUST ME AND MUH WIFE MADE THE MENUS
you want a fucking cookie? its the same menus since kirby superstar
>how the fuck were we all so blown away by it at launch.
We weren't, no one was. Everyone was underwhelmed after the leap from N64 to Melee was so great. I was there. I was actually old enough to go to the midnight in 2008.
Brawl was the last straight upgrade. 4 and Ultimate each did things better and worse than the prior game, so it's hard to say which one is the absolute best. One could argue that Ultimate is the overall best and I'd somewhat agree, but I'd dock points off for its abysmal launch state content-wise and even now it has the least non-versus content since Melee.
4 is actually the best Smash. I'd give it to Ult, but not being able to stay with the same people in Quickplay AND change your character is gay. Plus 4 gave you 2 taunts +1 for everyone KO you got. >but arenas
They're gay
Despite having the smallest viable roster, melee physics are unmatched.
Ultimate suffers from the retarded buffered inputs and terrible online, but the roster is impressive.
64 is a lot of fun, but becomes incredibly stale if both players are playing to win. 0 to death combos sound fun, until you get to the reality of everyone camping because they don’t want to get hit first. Fucking love the sound effects, though.
4 is just bland.
Brawl has SSE which is fun, but it takes a giant shit on the actual gameplay.
Only zoomers think Brawl is the best because it was their first smash in elementary school.

Which would be fine except the novelty wore off, the hardware took a couple steps back and the games were SO much worse.
I remember buying this fucker at launch after owning a DSi XL and thinking the screen was worse. Fun fact I was right it was worse the DSi XL used IPS and the 3DS was some low-end trash and the graphics were barely improved.
3ds needed more time in the oven, what became the new 3ds really should have been what the system was at launch
also the 2ds should not have fucking existed, nintendo should not have caved to all the gays who fucking screeched and warted about 3d being a "gimmick" because the 2ds just split the userbase between those who had 3d capability and those who didn't, meaning games could no longer rely on it being there

Smash Bros Dojo hype was unreal. The daily updates had friends and I pumped for soooo many months.
Why to you idiots still nostalgia over Smash Time? Sackofshit buck broke you good over YOU MUST RECOVER it seems.
>Brawl >above ANY other Smash
Even 64, as basic as it is, is a million times more fun to play. Subspace Emissary was basically a really shitty Kirby game and a few cool cutscenes don't excuse uninspired level design, recycled areas, and shit gameplay.
ultimate took away too much from 4
thing is, the different versions of 4 both paled in comparison to brawl's mode count individually, but take both versions together and 4 had a serious wealth of content
Smash Tour had potential and I still want to see them retry both it and Smash Run in Smash 6, but let's not mince words: the way they executed it in Smash 4 sucked. Making everyone take their turn at the exact same time was fucking stupid. They had winning formulas with Mario Party and Fortune Street and all they had to do was adapt that kind of gameplay to Smash and they fucked it up.
And it doesn't make me happy to say that because I was seriously looking forward to Smash Tour.
I don't mind that everyone takes their turns at once, it makes it a more frantic experience instead of calculated; felt like the intention was to mimic being in a 1v1v1v1 in Smash, but translated to a board game. I can barely get people to be interested in playing actual Mario Party, there's no way in hell if Smash Tour was even slower I could get anyone to play it. Not that anyone else but me in my friend group was interested in it ("it's too random").
I'd kill to have them try it again.
Melee's mechanics are archaic compared to later games'. All the game's "depth" come from obnoxious bugs that I'm glad were removed from later games. Over in the good timeline, it didn't have had its revival at EVO 2013 and the playerbase was actually allowed to move on while all the autistic holdouts grumbled in their corner, forgotten.

It was literally always meant to be a competitive series, just one with an extremely low barrier for entry. Sakurai made it because he's an autist who had guilt about beating some Stacey in KoF in the 90's

Shit was HYPE. I even hard-modded my Wii and bought dual-layer DVDs to play the US release so I didn't have to wait for the PAL release. Then when I finally got to play the game, the gameplay sucked. It was floaty garbage, tripping sucked, the smash balls sucked, my previous mains from Melee sucked. SSE was neat but it got boring fast too.
Also fuck Pokémon trainer with the fatigue mechanic and fuck Lucario.
>hard-modded my Wii and bought dual-layer DVDs to play the US release so I didn't have to wait for the PAL release
My man. I myself bought pic related and a US copy instead of waiting.
No one is defending Sm4sh. Objectively if you take out the mechanics Brawl is an upgrade to Melee in every way. >More characters, clones are generally more distinguished from each other and the overall selection feels like a relatively complete roster. >The most single player content in a Smash game ever >More stages >Better graphics and presentation >Music >Improved UI and customization >(crappy) Online but you could play regular with friends
And most people aren't fixated on the pure mechanics from a competitive standpoint and PM fixed the mechanics issues. From a casual perspective though Brawl is just better than Melee. Mechanics are important however which is why Melee is still played and Brawl isn't but Brawl clearly tried and added a lot. This is in comparison to Sm4sh and Ultimate which were just "what if more characters."
>No one is defending Sm4sh
I'll defend Sm4sh's online. For Glory was cool, being able to Taunt was way cooler than t-bagging, and being able to stick with the same people but change who you were playing as was awesome. Plus them seeing your in game nickname led to 8 character trash talk sessions while you were both selecting characters.
Ult quickplay is fucking cancer where everyone leaves immediately whether they win or lose and arenas are worse.
No, what it was was good and an objective improvement from what came BEFORE it (Brawl online sucked shit, taunt parties, insane lag). It also just so happens that what came after was worse.
he looks like he permanently has that squinty expression of a guy who you can tell his colon is acting up but he's not near a bathroom so he's trying to hold it

4 and Ult
The only one I'd say is explicitly bad is Brawl, it really doesn't FEEL good to play. But when it came out, it was still fucking cool. I remember playing it with my buddies for hours after school or at sleepovers.
Did you know that in Subspace Emissary all the characters move even slower than they normally do?
it's no wonder that the part of Brawl most fondly remembered is the cutscenes, the part where you're NOT playing it
i hate that shit music, it's the simplest theme song in the series but because it's made by that gay nobuo uematsu and it has le latin chanting it must be amazing right

How he saved his homeland

How he traveled the breadth of the land
Reducing all he touched to rubble
I’ve heard legends of that person
I’ve heard legends of that person
Revered by many -- I, too, revere him
Feared by many -- I, too, fear him
Now, that person
Stands at my side
Now that person stands at my side
Now my friends are with me
Some of them were once heroes
Some, my mortal enemies
And as we face each other in battle, locked in combat
We shine ever brighter

>Ultimate is finished now right? no more dlc and updates. Is it playable on emulator?
Switch 2 will launch with Ultimate Deluxe. Nintendo would not be able to put that many characters into the game ever again so they are just going to re-release it and add in DLC passes like with Mario Kart.

My man. I myself bought pic related and a US copy instead of waiting.
I was so pissed when Nintendo patched this. I think it cost me like 60 bucks
Yeah that really sucked, I had bought the PAL version by that point though cause my TV would only play the game in black abs white.
This is like the “the most recent Zelda is the worst game, the last one wasn’t so bad” meme. People fucking hated brawl and the tripping mechanic
>People fucking hated brawl and the tripping mechanic
by people you mean fucking losers
No one is defending Sm4sh. Objectively if you take out the mechanics Brawl is an upgrade to Melee in every way.
>More characters, clones are generally more distinguished from each other and the overall selection feels like a relatively complete roster.
>The most single player content in a Smash game ever
>More stages
>Better graphics and presentation
>Music
>Improved UI and customization
>(crappy) Online but you could play regular with friends
So you are defending one aspect of the game not even because it was good but because what came after was worse.
No, what it was was good and an objective improvement from what came BEFORE it (Brawl online sucked shit, taunt parties, insane lag). It also just so happens that what came after was worse.
Melee was the coolest smash. There was something just COOL about the character designs, stages etc.
yoshi looked fucking disgusting tho
Best looking Fox. I have no idea wtf they were thinking with Brawl.
I am so fucking sick of seeing melee fox, he looks perma-constipated
Call me crazy but I like his command-onward style from brawl and later games
>constipated
He looks determined anon.
he looks like he permanently has that squinty expression of a guy who you can tell his colon is acting up but he's not near a bathroom so he's trying to hold it
People do that when costipated?
and that's exclusive to melee fox how?
that's just how he looks
you are crazy and your taste is bad
Every thread like this is Ganker saying the one they played as a kid/teen/happy was the best and the recent ones are shit.
My favorites are Melee and Ultimate, my first when I was a kid was 64. Brawl and 4 are shit. Now what gay?
>Kid
64 and Melee
>Teen
Brawl
>20s
4 and Ult
The only one I'd say is explicitly bad is Brawl, it really doesn't FEEL good to play. But when it came out, it was still fucking cool. I remember playing it with my buddies for hours after school or at sleepovers.
melee > the rest because it's the one i played with my friends the most at the time
Melee=Brawl > 64 > Ultimate > Smash 4 before 1.1.3 > >>>>>>>>>>>>>> dog shit >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Smash 4 after 1.1.3
Did you know that in Subspace Emissary all the characters move even slower than they normally do?
it's no wonder that the part of Brawl most fondly remembered is the cutscenes, the part where you're NOT playing it
>Did you know that in Subspace Emissary all the characters move even slower than they normally do?
qrd or I don't believe you
PM > Melee = Ultimate > 4 > 64 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Brawl
i hate brawlbabies
AUDI FAMAN
i hate that shit music, it's the simplest theme song in the series but because it's made by that gay nobuo uematsu and it has le latin chanting it must be amazing right
and it was fucking everywhere in god damn brawl
ALI BABAAAAAAA
EEE YEE IGLOOOOO

>Real lyrics translated
I’ve heard legends of that person
How he plunged into enemy territory
How he saved his homeland
I’ve heard legends of that person
How he traveled the breadth of the land
Reducing all he touched to rubble
I’ve heard legends of that person
I’ve heard legends of that person
Revered by many -- I, too, revere him
Feared by many -- I, too, fear him
Now, that person
Stands at my side
Now that person stands at my side
Now my friends are with me
Some of them were once heroes
Some, my mortal enemies
And as we face each other in battle, locked in combat
We shine ever brighter
>It's literally Subspace Emissary's plot of good guys and bad guys teaming up for a greater good
>Even Ganondorf and Link begrugingly join forces to save everything
>By the end, everyone is fighting purely for fun, not as enemies
>mfw mash will never be this kino ever again
I wanted to make a joke about how the translation is soulless next to random babble you make up in your head as a kid playing it but that is unironically really cool. I loved Subspace.
Everything is fun and games until Ganondorf Warlock punches Olimar and fucking murders him
Brawl, melee, and ultimate are all equal in my book. They each do something great.
Ultimate is finished now right? no more dlc and updates. Is it playable on emulator?
>Ultimate is finished now right? no more dlc and updates. Is it playable on emulator?
Switch 2 will launch with Ultimate Deluxe. Nintendo would not be able to put that many characters into the game ever again so they are just going to re-release it and add in DLC passes like with Mario Kart.
Melee > Ultimate > 64 >>>>> Brawl > 4
Ultimate > Brawl > 4 > 64 > Melee
melee's pros
>best gameplay
>best adventure mode
melee's cons
>looks like dogshite
>awful balance

ultimate's cons
>inexcusable online experience for a game released in the late 2010s
you can NOT prove me wrong
melee's graphics look fine to me
this artstyle is horrid, mate. yoshi looks like a fucking alien as well.
i would put
>best adventure
in brawl's pros too if it wasn't that going through SSE with the game's floaty ass physics is a chore at times
About right.
melee's pros
>best gameplay
melee's cons
>looks like dogshite
>awful balance
>small roster full of clones
brawl's pros
>best soundtrack
>best roster
>best adventure mode
brawl's cons
>awful gameplay
ultimate's pros
>best "full package"
>best balance
ultimate's cons
>inexcusable online experience for a game released in the late 2010s
>Glaring difference in the design philosophy of new fighters v old fighters
None of the smash games are "balanced". And Melee is better balanced than Brawl btw.
>inb4 "huh? I've never even heard of Brawl Metaknight"
even on the opposite end of the tier list, Brawl has EVEN MORE dogshit dysfunctional characters than Melee does. Brawl Ganon is like one of the weakest characters in any game ever
Correct.
melee's balance isn't bad by 20 year old game standards and isn't even the worst balance is the series
