      No

      >Leading up to this launch, I've noticed a lot of discussion around the 12 GB VRAM size of RTX 4070. While I agree that 16 GB would be better, I disagree with people who say that 12 GB is already too small, or obsolete. There are a few (badly coded) games out there that use a ton of VRAM, especially at 4K, but the vast majority of titles won't even get close to such VRAM usage numbers. In our whole test suite not a single game saw a meaningful performance hit with 12 GB, not even at 4K—and RTX 4070 is fundamentally a 1440p card.

Literally just got the card in your picture.

You're getting a huge upgrade, and you'll be able to play games with Path Tracing without your pc dying over it. The TUF card also runs a lot cooler than the Gigabyte 2070 I had before, although it's a bit larger.

I recommend NVIDIA because of lower power draw and RTX/DLSS features which always save you when games start outclassing your card in another year or two, so you don't have to fret over upgrading for a while.

The Ti Super OC'd also is almost a 4080 stock. I've been playing a lot of Cyberpunk and it's very seamless, but even at 1080p it's not quite 60fps at rasterized settings. But with Frame-gen I get well over 100fps. It runs decently at 1440p too.

        Anonymous

4000 series have a lot of room to undervolt them, so you can use this "extra room" to overclock it instead. A 4070TI super can match a 4080 performance with stock voltages if you get a decent silicon.

The problem is you give an inch and devs take a mile. Be it web devs, game devs etc, and this isn't an issue with devs. It's with the boardroom, and profit driven investors.

It's hilarious thinking that improving the technological hardware people used would improve the bottom line in browsing the web, because if the majority of users use a top of the line processor, the software developers will just not bother optimizing their software.

I don't think you do unless you're playing the most recent AAA unoptimized garbage. I don't even understand why you'd need a card that powerful to begin with if you're using it just for gaming. What has come out in the past 5 years that's truly worth playing that isn't playable on older hardware?

      Anonymous

The main selling point of the 4070 super is its raw power and number of cores. So if you like have a 240hz monitor and play CS2 at 240 fps that all nice and fine. But the gaytracing and AAA graphics games where the rest of the tensor cores and stuff that you paid for is kinda doesnt really work as well with just 12GB vram.
Think playing some of those UE5 tech demos at 4K with RT and everything on ultra.

I don't play any modern AAA games. I think the closest thing to games with modern AAA graphics that I play are modded Minecraft, modded Fallout 4, modded Skyrim, and FF14. Modded KSP and some emulators like Ryujinx to play Pokemon games as well.

Here is a good video of how the 8GB of vram is gimping the 3060ti card inaPS4 game.
Every time the allocation hits 8GB the stutters happen from swaping into ram, then he turns down textures to medium to try and get a more stable frametime and then in the end just goes medium textures and dlss to make it playable.
Of course it looks like ass compared to native and ultra textures.

you dont seem to get it, the thing is, the more powerful base hardware gets, the less optimized it needs to be for normies.

This directly clashes with things like trademarks, and copyright laws, and are directly leading to our modern day life of forced obsoletion, and enshittification.

Okay, so say you need the same software 20 years ago, and 10 years ago.
20 years ago, you need the software you're hiring devs for to be much more optimized for the average PC user, and targeted market you're going for business wise in order to make money for your idea.

Now do that just 10 years ago, and the average hardware the average business man, and user is utilizing, is much more powerful, and you can push the same exact software, much less optimized, and still get paid for that.

You need a LOT of VRAM to run local AI, especially text generation.

Higher resolutions, poorly optimized games where streaming assets will choke your frames to shit regardless of pure rasterization throughput, and AI porn. I don't play dogshit AAAs so my use case for needing a moderately specced GPU with high VRAM is literally just Stable Diffusion.

new cards coming out in 3 months. Not worth getting any gpu unless you desperately need it right now. The 5070 will beat the 4090 in gaming and it will use like 180w and have DP 2.1.

not going to argue over this when I'm going to be right because its the same fricking pattern for the past 14 years. I understand the gap but that isn't going to stop Nvidia from doing the same generational improvements. It's currently expected that the 5070 will run at 180-200W and have 16gb vram and will beat the 4090 by 5% in gaming and whatever the frick dlss 4.0 does.

Nvidia is focusing the massive performance leaps on the xx90 flagship models now, and the 4090 was an example of this. I dont doubt the 5090 will be a monster and be like 60~80% stronger than the 4090's but I really doubt the other models are gonna have such massive performance leap.

Again, not him, but the 4070 = 3080. 5070 will match the 4080 if we're lucky, but I doubt it, or there will be further price increases on the XX70 class MSRP to compensate if it does.

          Anonymous

Not him, but I think you're going to be disappointed this generation. Radeon didn't even design high end RDNA4 chips; the best will be around 7900 GRE performance. We'll be lucky to get 4070 performance out of Intel's Arc. Maybe the lower midrange will get cheaper and better, but there's no way the 5070 / 5070 Super will even match the 4090.

          >The 5070 is 100% going to beat the 4090 in gaming
Says what? We're reaching diminishing returns on hardware technology, With higher returns requiring more restrictions, safety and otherwise for the consumer that ends up pricing them out of it.

It's very likely we're going to see incremental price increases very shortly, where you're gaining nothing but new software updates for 10x the prices, because there is exponential less gains for new tech, compared to their ability to leverage a monopoly over the existing limits.

              >I was hoping we were getting to the stage where things are made more efficient and run cooler.
Thats the problem, that requires an actual technological leap and the issue is we haven't got there. You try going smaller than we are today to fit more on the same size card, and you get microscopic glitches in how the data is stored due to energy.

Anything else we've done, that can further advance the hardware output, no longer makes it mass consumer friendly to idiots, children, consumeristic idiots buying products for their children, etc because all the solutions to this current problem are extremely complicated.

I mean we were due to reach some kind of roadblock eventually. Technological advances since the 1800s started have just felt like a nonstop exponential ramping growth that some kind of laws of physics was bound to stop us.

What the frick is the difference between an nVidia ti card, a Super card, and a ti Super card AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

      Anonymous

Took me forever, but the "Super" basically came out last, and is kind of the "halfway budget, but for less money" kind of card.

In terms of just raw performance it goes like this

      4070 < 4070 Super < 4070 Ti < 4070 Ti Super

There's about a 6-7 FPS difference between each card, and the regular Ti is by far the best card unless you need to do 2160p gaming. If you're okay with DLSS to reach 4K you don't have to worry about that, EXCEPT if you use Frame Generation, because it eats up VRAM, and actually hits the limit on the 12gb cards if you're gaming 4K with DLSS.

But if you're doing strictly 1080p or 1440p, the 4070 Ti card is the best get. If you think the 4070 Super looks more affordable it's also worth it, just be aware that it is slightly worse in pretty much every scenario. It draws 30W less power though, so it probably runs a bit cooler.
