Not that anon but it really does. If you play through Pokemon Colosseum or XD you'll start to notice that the animation times result in you covering a lot less ground for the time spent playing. A playthrough of Colo/XD without optional battle facilities has much less ground to cover, less battles/dungeons etc compared to something like Emerald, but it takes as much time as a normal main series playthrough. It's not too terrible but it does hurt replayability.

You're also supposed to notice that BW2 are better than both. Maybe X Y would be fun with an enhancement romhack like Blaze Black, but none of you have replayed gen 6 since release and you don't plan to either.

Yeah Black White are pretty good and a decent challenge for a casual playthrough. X Y has no challenge at all in comparison because all of the secondary stuff supercharges your pokemon on top of the XP share and weak NPC teams. XY's XP share + Friendship XP multiplier and friendship bonus of randomly ignoring all negative effects in battle + free EV training + Megas + 2 starters, all make XY an extreme cakewalk on a casual playthrough. Blaze Black 2 on challenge is the best challenge as far as Pokemon autism goes, but that does get into autism territory.
I read about how the XP share ruined all future games. Am I understanding it right that all your pokemon always level up at once, which means they're all exactly as strong as if you had only used 1 pokemon? Which of course is a strategy that famously breaks the whole game
Yep that's it. It functionally more than triples the amount of XP earned and ensures your whole team will always be many levels above the opponent. It was also optional in the 3DS games, but became forced in all games after them because fuck you. RPGs are actually less fun when you're overleveled at all times with no effort, but Game Freak does not care about unimportant things like fun.
Gen 6 catches unnecessary shit IMO because Kalos was a shit region and the game had Genwunner catering in it but it was the last good entry. The modders do it because Nexus pays per download. It's lazy money simple as that. No reason to even put effort into a texture pack. They just release each HD mesh/texture as an individual download. You can see it happening pretty aggregiously with New Vegas textures meshes and animations lately. Starfield is going to get the worst of it.

Its photgrammetry. Take a picture from a couple angles and run it through a program. Creates a depth map and you have photo realistic textures already on hand. Its super fast and way easier than 3D modeling the object and having an artist texture it

A 3d scan would result in a very high poly model, with a texture map. However, you can then wrap it with a very low poly model as well as its LOD variants and bake the high poly model's surface details into a normal map and also transfer the scanned texture data. Then you'd just have to define the roughness maps so that the cheese is shinier than the bun, and you've got a game ready 3d model with optimized geometry.
I know all this because I'm not a 2023 AAA game developer. I'm from the ancient times when videogames were optimized.

And to be fair, most developers work as contractors, so it was bound to happen eventually. Same thing happened to BioWare after the ME games. CDPR and Larian Studios poached all their talent. The founder left years ago (and made weird west, which was kind of a meh game unfortunately), and even of the staff that remained with arkane until recently, 70% left during redfall's development. Arkane might as well be a new studio now.
I know bethesda retained a lot of it's veterans over the years, although notably most of the writers left so it's just Emil running the show now.

I got a 3080 buddy it's probably not a problem but the power would be better served elsewhere, NPCs for example. Good looking food comes down to the texture

there, not that bad. probably going to be a pain to debug though
you don't even need ik for it. the food can just slide onto and parent to the fork bone (which is parented to the hand bone) and because he's sitting in a booth that never changes and can be of a standard design, no ik is required. it can be a totally rigid animation that only has to defer to ik when he sits down, gets up, or gets shot/aggrod and has to change his activity
boring, dull daily routine, now you can experience it in video games too (which were supposed to be an escape from above mentioned). irony levels are off the charts

Cyberpunk with full ray-tracing enabled runs much better than Starfield despite having no loading screens, huge npc crowds, constant vehicles on the road, more verticality, and much more detailed geometry all around. It was also optional in the 3DS games, but became forced in all games after them because fuck you. RPGs are actually less fun when you're overleveled at all times with no effort, but Game Freak does not care about unimportant things like fun.

I think they mainly do it in the first weeks because it's relatively easy, at least when compared to scripting and adding new features/removing loading screens/changing animations. Which is fine, those are mods and they do it for free, it just annoys me that Bethesda had so many other hard stuff to do, and they didn't do shit. The modders do it because Nexus pays per download. It's lazy money simple as that. No reason to even put effort into a texture pack. They just release each HD mesh/texture as an individual download. You can see it happening pretty aggregiously with New Vegas textures meshes and animations lately. Starfield is going to get the worst of it.

Its photgrammetry. Take a picture from a couple angles and run it through a program. Creates a depth map and you have photo realistic textures already on hand. Its super fast and way easier than 3D modeling the object and having an artist texture it

A 3d scan would result in a very high poly model, with a texture map. However, you can then wrap it with a very low poly model as well as its LOD variants and bake the high poly model's surface details into a normal map and also transfer the scanned texture data. Then you'd just have to define the roughness maps so that the cheese is shinier than the bun, and you've got a game ready 3d model with optimized geometry.
I know all this because I'm not a 2023 AAA game developer. I'm from the ancient times when videogames were optimized.

retarget animations for all the human skeletons and just have qa make sure the npcs dont have too much clipping
there, not that bad. probably going to be a pain to debug though
you don't even need ik for it. the food can just slide onto and parent to the fork bone (which is parented to the hand bone) and because he's sitting in a booth that never changes and can be of a standard design, no ik is required. it can be a totally rigid animation that only has to defer to ik when he sits down, gets up, or gets shot/aggrod and has to change his activity

Cyberpunk with full ray-tracing enabled runs much better than Starfield despite having no loading screens, huge npc crowds, constant vehicles on the road, more verticality, and much more detailed geometry all around. Even the AI is more responsive. It's honestly baffling how incompetent Bethesda has become.
