      much as I love this series, i must admit that unless I remember it wrong, a headshot from makarov was not lethal against enemies in this first little bandit camp at the beginning of vanilla SHOC. Mods improve gunplay immensely, I've played through Autumn Aurora with just makarov for shits and giggles and i only had to drop this idea at the very end of the game because no one was carrying 9x18 anymore, so i got out of ammo in chernobyl plant.

      Still, it's not that bad, even in vanilla game. You quickly get AKSU at the bridge if you choose to kill military bois instead of paying them off, and this thing murders everyone except for exoskeleton veterans in one headshot. Of course all of that applies only to hardest difficulty.

              The argument was that enemies are bullet sponges. As you can see he dies in a single shot on hardest difficulty.
              In the novice webm you either have 2 scenarios, he takes 2 bullets, proving that Master dif does indeed make easier to kill. Or scenario 2, he would die in one headshot anyway if one of the bullets missed, proving that the enemies aren't damage sponges to begin with.

          Worst way to test it. AI Damage values are tied to weapons, and it always uses Master difficulty damage. This never changes, regardless of what difficulty the player chooses.

          Stalker SOC has a hidden superbullet feature where the longer you hold aim without firing the larger damage multiplier you get up to a certain cap, ammo type and condition also affect bullet dispersion with standard ammo having the worst accuracy of a given calibre and pistol calibres having the worst accuracy of all calibres.

          Master gives the false impression of a flat damage multiplier for everything because it makes you play more carefully and charge your shot multiplier more often, enemies actually effectively have more base damage resistance on master however.

      i really loved how games matured from SHoC to CoP. SHOC was still kind of a classic 2007 shooter game when it comes to story bits, main story was very solid but sidequests were mostly 'go there, kill that guy', zero context, zero logic. CoP grew up a lot, everyone was troubled and depressed, fitting the logic of Zone that only attracts people desperate for a change. You get alcoholic Cardan with bright past and lots of regrets, you get hunter guy on a quest to restore his peace of mind, everyone has a defined personality, logic, motivations. Factions also got their own internal struggles and very decent background bits, always linking back to some specific characters who behaved in a way that made sense in their situations. Stalkers are just a constant improvement in the right direction, never going too far, never stopping either. Kind of rarity in vidya.

        there's a ton of places in CoP where stalkers don't spawn

        I went to Yantar almost as soon as I got to the second area, without any quests. Exploring it was one of the more intense Stalker experience because there's fucking nothing there except for dogs and some bloodsuckers IIRC. Picking up those documents and getting ganked by mercs was outright relieving.

        I played it like 10 years ago but I remember it actually made the zone feel dangerous.
        And while misery aims to inconvenience and frustrate the player at every step, AMK just made everything more deadly, including you. So guns shot where you pointed and enemies died from a realistic number of bullets, as did you.
        I think it reworked the mutant spawns and a-life, I remember running into a controller leading a pack of blind dogs in the cordon. Lots of features that people take for granted in current mods come from AMK, like dynamic messages, emissions and dynamic anomalies.

      I still remember almost shitting myself while I was sheltering I think at the cement factory during an anomaly, it was early on in the game and I had killed everyone on the map and I suddenly see a yellow dot rapidly approaching on my radar. It disappeared right after the anomaly ended, what the fuck was it? I never see anyone talking about having a similar experience. I was genuinely freaked out, I went to stand at an opening in the wall to see if I could see whatever it was, I thought it was an enemy or monster or something. It was almost right at my position, and then disappeared when the transmission came through.

            You can't kill everyone on the map, not only are there just too many roaming stalkers but also newer ones appear over time. Sometimes emision catches you in a place where you really have to move a big distance to catch a break so maybe that's what happened.

        CS - Sky Reclamation Project
        CoP - just play vanilla
        those reclamation project mods have quite a bit of optional changes and tweaks that can mess with the game balance so i wouldn't bother with them other than maybe the weapon sway removal
        honestly i would just play vanilla, patches fixed the crashes

        Aight cool, is it worth sticking around for each game to see everything or should I just play the main story then do that for CoP?

          There's really not much to do other than the main story and a couple of side quests you can absolutely do along the way or with minor backtracking if you play your cards right.
          But I wouldn't go in with the pre-concieved notion that CoP is best either, because many consider its missions quite dull, even if mechanically it's the best.

              I suppose if you look at it that way it's true, but all the missions in that game are completely instanced in one single location. You always approach a camp of enemies from a safe direction and if things go south you can always retreat back to safety and the enemies won't chase you.
              Compare that to Agroprom in SoC where yes, the mission is just to get the mcguffin, but you have your temporary loner allies to save (every moment of tarrying means more of them die). Then after rescuing Mole spetznaz lands behind you and you have to haul ass to the underground or you'll get shot. In the underground you're surrounded by first bandits, then mutants, then soldiers all with no place to rest. Then you emerge in the middle of an army camp where you have the option to either go full rambo or sneak and finally when you get the mcguffin you get besieged by army guys and you can choose to run or to fight. All that while running out of resources because you had not seen a safe area with a merchant since Cordon.
              So reducing it to a mere fetch quest is quite dishonest even though it is technically a fetch quest.

                Either go only to the secret strelok stash or enter it from behind when escaping with the documents

      SoC - Zone Reclamation Project
      CS - Sky Reclamation Project
      CoP - just play vanilla
      those reclamation project mods have quite a bit of optional changes and tweaks that can mess with the game balance so i wouldn't bother with them other than maybe the weapon sway removal
      honestly i would just play vanilla, patches fixed the crashes

    no matter how its achieved, outcome is fairly realistic as to truly win a gun fight you need to do hit and run, double tap your foes, and you still could get killed if you get unlucky
    its so enjoyable, especially when mutants attack enemies as well at the same time and some idiots step into anomalies
