Bungie, are you okay?

Not only the campaign was shit but the raid is a downgrade from every other destiny 2 raid ever made. The raid is so easy and simple that 10x more people finished it on contest mode than every other raid ever, the final boss HP is so low it was possible to solo it on contest mode.

The term "findom" is short for financial dominance. Men buy expensive gifts, give allowances or even allow some unknown women complete control for their finances in order to keep the relationship going. Gacha and F2P gamers are the video game equivalent of findom.

I started with this expansion, as a F2P though.

I find it enjoyable for what content it has but its only lasted me like 2 weeks and given this expansion is hated and the other 2 new classes are both pretty shit (void/solar being more popular and more useful anyway) I see no reason to pay. the campaign was shit and almost paint by numbers, and is also filler despite being the penultimate expansion.

despite being that close to the end, we have NO IDEA the main villains motivation, (beyond the vague lorebook idea that he wants to be the last being in the universe) he's also infinitely more powerful than anyone in the setting and it will feel moronic to beat him by shooting him with a hastily repaired russian firearm.

hell, no one even knows what happened in THIS expansion, as its a Mcguffin chase, with no explanation on what the Mcguffin is, why the villain wants it, or anything, also 70% of the expansion is about mastering the new power in the idea that it'll help you win the day, and in the end you don't even have to use it to fight the expansions final boss, nor does it really matter.

Still baffling how Destiny has Kirkbride-level lore in the item tabs and books and all the other shit that doesn't actually run parallel to the gameplay loop, but Bungie cannot for the life of them translate it into the actually good in-game narrative to save their lives. Witch Queen is literally the only expansion where you get meaningful narrative during the actual game.

also sorry not sorry, but Debra Winger was great as Savathun. Ironic how one of the best written/characterized characters in recent memory will never be
witnessed by Ganker because Destiny and Winger both cause insant autistic meltdowns.
from what I can gather most of the backstory and "pre-game" lore is based off of and has the same creative freedom of the original destiny script and writers that is far more like Marathon than Halo with it taking heavy inspiration from 80s sci-fi novels and anime like GITS. Where as the in game writers are pigeon holed into making bland "cinematic" stories to entice normies and streamers.
TLDR Item tab writers are allowed to be schizo and based in game story writers need to make it like Marvel.

It is hilarious how much time Destiny 2 asks you for while also wasting it. The MMO design of player retention is obsolete, games do not need pointless checklist work to keep them coming back, especially when the game and world is interesting. Hopefully they can kill D2 off and make a real shooter instead of an MMO that tries so hard to pretend it is like Halo.

Anonymous

its barely an MMO.

it took them 2+ years to make the area you go to in Lightfall, and its 3 small circular areas you can fully explore in about an hour and 30 minutes.

its baffling how small the world really is.

It is the absolute worst parts of an MMO (random loot, "kill x targets with y weapons", chosen one narrative) on top of a legitimately beautiful game. >Thinks I'm talking Halo 3
homie, Destiny has been "in-development" SINCE Halo 3. They left MS after MS saw Destiny's pre-alpha gameplay and went "lol no, now do Halo 4, 5, and 6" and Jason Jones shit his diaper and went "frick you, let us go independent and we'll make Halo 4 (ODST) and 5 (Reach) and do this MMOFPS."

So they did.

Anonymous

To add, this (MS's right of first refusal, Jones getting angry and telling MS to break first-party contract/independence) is why Activision invested into Destiny and Bungie: Because Bungie/Jones *LITERALLY* said (like Shenmue from Suzuki) that this was going to be an 8 part game series.

And then Destiny 1 was a minor success, but 2's development hell (due to spaghetti code and having to re-write the engine from 1) is why ATVI dumped Bungie after the luke-warm reception of Destiny 2.

Now like Shenmue it's languishing, but unlike Shenmue, Bungie has pay-piggies willing to "support the developer" like Starbreeze/Overkill does/did for Payday 2.

But unlike Payday 2, Bungie isn't in the poor-house (because they got bought by Sony to "own the MS's") yet to where their milking of the DLC isn't really justified in the next two years (or whatever, post Sony buy date) if they continue with this instead of shitting out a Destiny 3 already.

Point is: Jones wanted an MMOFPS but couldn't make one good, and now they're in this shitty situation of having an "epic story!!!" that doesn't mean shit because their writers (like the Halo ones) ass-pulled a plot at the eleventh hour.

The only reason people should pay attention to Bungie is the gameplay and even THAT is stuck in the mid-00's now.

you got your timeline all over the place anon.
2000 to early 2007, Bungie was owned by MS
As a result of Halo 2 not being able to be the final Halo game, which was the original plan for Bungie at least, and various other issues with MS, Bungie sought to be independent again. Microsoft agreed, asking for 3 more games and the Halo IP itself.
There was absolutely no alpha gameplay for Destiny until mid-Reach or post Reach, since Reach in of itself was a testbed for a lot of ideas for Destiny.

Ended up finishing the expansion with all titles and being able to craft 90% of all craftable guns. Lightfall drops and the experience was fricking horrible, one of the main campaign characters is a Disney gay ( literally ) that sounds and is annoying as frick everytime it speaks. The new planet was overtuned as frick, all turrets one shot you, high value targets would randomly one shot you, one of the new Lost Sector bosses was 30 light levels above the others and would 2-3 shot you, the new planet event was 60? Light above everyone else leading to everyone getting 2-3 shot, legit six people would fight this thing chain dying while slowly widdling it down, I ended up needing to strategically park myself on rooftops like it I was trying to cheese a Destiny 1 Nightfall.

At this point Destiny's legacy is set in stone really.

"Oh dude the lore is so cool"
"Oh the setting has so much potential!"
"The raids are incredible"
etc etc, I honestly doubt that anything this year can change it's reputation at this point and we all have to put up with it's brain rotted playerbase telling us how amazing it is but fail to actually justify the anti-consumer shit Bungie pulls.

I'm just annoyed of a personal level how Bungie decided to handle seasons, and due to that and how they were designed Destiny will *never* have it's entire narrative playable. There is no way Destiny can support all it's seasonal content from over the years at the same time, Destiny's narrative will only ever be viewable with Youtube and not the game itself.

Anonymous

the setting has potential, however, Destiny will never be able to pay off that potential.

its only conceptual, the world is never explorable the way it should, the game's content always eventually pools you towards doing PVP, Gambit, or worthless Vanguard strikes over and over, because everything else is one off.

its literally the "Man wouldn't it be cool if it were a really open world with lots of exploration and secrets" but its never going to be that, its always going to be "3 areas in a zone roughly the size of a football field each", and nothing more.

The writing staff had basically started writing "Guardians" Of The Galaxy fanfiction. Every single line of dialogue was either a quip, retort, sarcastic comment or piece of snark. It didn't matter that humanity was literally at the brink of complete extermination; everybody was just so stoked to be on a Whedon-tier space adventure.

To Bungie's credit, they did take those complaints on board and made a noticeable effort to change the tone of writing for content going forward. So the fact that Lightfall is terrible in all the same ways as D2 vanilla makes me wonder what the frick is going on at Bungie. My assumption is that the "good" writers had to move onto whatever is happening after the Light/Dark saga so the reddit tier writers got put back in charge of Lightfall (and probably The Final Shape too).

Savathun's dialogue and arc was perfect, its wild that the rest of the game is written with so much bad dialogue.

Don't even give a shit about Osiris/Saint smashing pissers in and of itself, but them being together personally just doesn't make sense. They've been through shit together sure but Saint is always extroverted, confident, amicable towards guardians, and borderline pompous with some of his delivery. Osiris is meek, brooding, standoffish, and kind of a shithead to the guardians especially during the Lightfall campaign.

Perfect example of "I don't care about diversity as long as you don't butcher the narrative and characterization for it." Two incompatible people thrown together simply for virtue signaling.

Destiny game balance is currentlly fricked, and no, I'm not talking about what's currently overpowered or w/e.

I'm taking about Primary/Special/Heavy balance.

currently, there is no reason to use a primary, double special is completely superior, its too easy to generate special breaks for you and your team.

Primary's have so little function in any content that matters, its baffling, in GM's even redbar enemies will have moronic HP values, and in Raids its so much orange bar's to burn thatt all you need is a special weapon for big enemies and a special weapon for ad clear.

as good as destiny's gunplay is, a whole section of guns are only good in pvp.

>Primary's have so little function in any content that matters, its baffling
SMGs and Hand Cannons continue to be the workhorse weapon types across all parts of the game, regardless of slot.

Anonymous

lol no, no one uses fricking handcannon in GM's Black person, nor are they using SMG's except maybe Striga, mowing down redbars in irrelevant easy content is nothing.

"my striga is always so hungry"

Debra Wilson is an amazing Voice Actress, she is, however, very ugly, so them forcing us to see her visage through mo-capping is the crux here.

The jump in quality between BL and WQ was truly insane. Between 3.0 reworks, crafting, and other QoL shit, it is absolutely flabbergasting how they stumbled such a good set up for themselves for year 6.

Honestly though I feel like one we have a better sense of the new armor mod meta and more people hit the poweful/pinnacle cap people will be more receptive. They really did overtune some of the difficulty though and power level just needs to get gutted at this point. I only think the quality in Witch queen was high because they scrapped strand, which was supposed to come out with Witch Queen. It's kinda why it feels so out of place right now in Lightfall.

Anonymous

>Strand cut from Witch Queen

True, the green palate in the throne world and the thematic focus on connections (like strands on conspiracy boards in procedurals) makes that pretty clear, supported by the delays caused by COVID and, imo, someone realizing last second Eager Edge + grappling was going to crack this spaghetti wide open without the tweaks to sword skating and collision damage we got before Lightfall. All that and rolling out 3.0 AND a new subclass was not going to fly with how granularly they iterate sandbox changes in general.

Honestly if WQ would have had strand, been more robust, and been pushed back a bit to beef up seasonal updates that would have been preferable to what we got. Like just make the gaps between BL-WQ-FS be about 18-20 months. Nobody really minded season of the lost being 6 months with the anniversary update, which wasn't huge but DENSE. A bit more breathing room between seasons to get everything you want and a focused update here or there would have been better than lightfall.

The Bungie that made Halo is long gone. All thats left is Activision employees that joined Bungie during the split, woman diversity hires, and trannies that don’t want to work.

Their old motto was “We make games we want to play”

Their new one?

“WE BUILD WORLDS THAT INSPIRE FRIENDSHIP”

Bungie has been pozzed since the moment Destiny came out when all the talent left. It is beyond me why these morons still give this company money

I wonder if that's why they kicked out Marty. They were always pretty vague about why

Anonymous

Theres a lot of theories floating around, but an employee leaked some information regarding Martys termination.

During development of D1, Activision wanted to use “Immigrant Song” for the major trailer of Destiny. Marty made a big fuss over it, saying that the music didn’t capture the mysterious and engaging atmosphere of Destiny. He wanted to use his own music which is understandable since all of their Halo trailers had memorable music to it.

Apparently he was getting really pissy (rightfully so) with how much Activision was controlling Bungie and its development (Ironically around same time that Activision told Jacob Jones to rewrite the entire story in less than a year, causing him to quit), so higher ups told Bungie to axe Marty. Marty sued them for wrongful termination and won.

Weird how much skirting around the MMO label kind of fricked them when the content vault came around. Bungo tried so hard to distance from the negative shit associated with the term, but if they had been charging just a flat sub instead of selling expacs as their own products beside the "free to try" frickery, all that controversy would have been way different.

Anonymous

Nah, if anything the MMO label has hurt them even worse there, because no MMO has pulled the shit that Bungo did outside of arguably Cataclysm, and that was done for story reasons and mostly replaced everything it removed

Cataclysm was a mistake too. They should've let you choose what timeline to make your character on so you could make new ones and do the old the quests still or something
