But what if these games were sequels like BW2?

Then they couldn’t promise ULTRA CHANGES while being released one year apart
Probably would've been decent, but the games we did get were pretty good too. I've never understood the complaints that these games didn't change enough when Crystal, Emerald, and Platinum are praised for doing the same things.
They all added substantial amounts of content and fixed problems with the original game while USUM just made SM's existing problems worse
The original game had a nice ending, where Gladion is president, Lillie goes to get Lusamine treated. It would've been cool to see them aged up. Maybe Hau or Guzma becomes Kahuna somewhere.
Also compiling the content into one game was nice
I can't think of any reason why USUM had to be two games instead of "Prism" or something.
To sell double packs ofc
>I can't think of any reason why USUM had to be two games instead of "Prism" or something.
>we can get many more different Pokemon and characters into the story and into the game itself
Where though?
The biggest difference is that your Cosmog (Nebby) has a different form
Probably referring to the Ultra Recon guys, there was also the in-game clock difference from SM carried over into USUM, the first trial's totem, and the new totem gifts.
Didn't USUM story suck in comparison to SM though?
that was gf's explanation to why, not saying it was good
Because to me it makes no sense to play USUM whatsoever if it's just SM but with a worse story, the only thing that made SM stand out
>they all aded substantial amounts of content
You mean like a larger dex, multiple minigames, side quests, new areas in the map, a post-game story, and new characters?
>and fixed problems
What problems did SM have that a 3rd version could actually fix other than "I don't like cutscenes existing"?
>What problems did SM have that a 3rd version could actually fix other than "I don't like cutscenes existing"?
not a lot, which is the problem
So the 3rd versions are bad, because the 1st pair were already good enough to not need fixing?
they weren't good but the problems weren't something you could slap a band-aid on.
like BW2?
at least Emerald fused the Aqua and Magma stories. I'm not saying that it's good, just saying that it did do something different.
People forgot removal of PSS, Ultra Hallway, and Ultra Space dungeons being a single room?
>what if they were marketed with a different name?
Nothing, because Game Freak view all their games differently to how you view all their games.
So you're saying the entirely different plot of B2W2 doesn't matter at all? Like, even in the stretch of the game in the middle that's structurally similar to the original BW, there's still new content spread throughout it, some of which only works with the conceit of a sequel.
>So the 3rd versions are bad, because the 1st pair were already good enough to not need fixing?
No, SM's problems are more fundamental structurally. For example, he entire second island as a map is kind of bad and even if they wanted to change how you went through it they
A. Couldn't really because of the way the new maps were designed and
B. It doesn't particularly matter how you loop around because the map itself isn't very good
They actually improved on what the other three islands did well enough just by adding stuff, but the second one is still just really not fun your first time through or coming back with new abilities, it's the worst of both worlds.
>add 6 more Pokemons
>add some mini games
>up gym mons by a level
>completely fuck up the story, the only thing that SM is over other games and has something unique that's worth playing for
>people buy your new game and stop playing the old version
Could anyone explain me why the fuck is that?
money?
