Combos aren't what wins games, all they do is maximize damage from very specific attack set ups. Knowing how to do a combo doesn't open up your opponent or improve your defense, reaction times or movements, for example.

Oh I know, that's partly the reason why. Call it retribution of sorts, but aside from the really stupid points he made and casual desperation to avoid anything Japanese that is still choking him now, he did enjoy some of his time on it and NEO also fills much of his criteria of what he's looking for now on top of being a little more contemporary to get into, without sacrificing any depth whatsoever in its elements and is if anything even better at overall character writing.

On several occasions he's exposed himself as only being capable of skimming the surface of games and being all too willing to dump his assumptions in lieu of actually doing what he claims to be doing in reviewing games. It's sad because he has some decent insights and for how long he's been doing this has remained relatively consistent, but making a video directly shitting on how games are too orthodox and poorly written in the stories they tell and how they tell them while demanding more subtlety, and then immediately after start shitting on and disregarding a gameplay focused game with a straightforward but clearly unorthodox plot that requires and rewards paying just a bit of attention to what's actually happening due to it having a measure of subtlety within. All the while not even reviewing or looking into games that are excellently written due to being too afraid to get out of his comfort zone.
His end of the year video was pretty bad, not a lot of difference between his bland and bad categories. Feels like he's been significantly worse the last year, like he's more phoning it in, although nothing as bad as his Demon's Souls and Monster Hunter Tri videos.
Pretty much, though at least in those instances he was actually willing to admit that he changed his mind and revisit them which is a great thing, while this case of phoning in got significantly more obvious and rampant without seeing much recourse. People shitpost about it but I would actually prefer if these threads were made by him since that would at least imply he was reading them, which is the first step towards opening his mind to trying newer things and nipping the issue in the bud. And on that note he needs to frickin review NEO: The World Ends With You already, frankly even if he did a shit job the game's greatest source of marketing for the target audience (including people that were actually big fans of the DS game) was SE saying a niche AA project they sabotaged wherever possible didn't hit their expectations, so it would be for the best anyway.

Yahtzee is largely uninterested in mechanical depth, and he avoids multiplayer. I don't play many fighting games, but when I do the story mode cpus tend to be very uninteresting to fight, and can be beaten by repeating a single combo infinitely. Whatever their merits as a pvp experience, I don't think many would argue the genre excels at pve.
He is a plotgay and fighting games are pure gameplay with moronic stories, evidence? See most gotys he has given.
Ironically I actually enjoyed BB:CF's story because it's literally just a VN with less choices but actual gameplay thrown in.
