No. You should never play a franchise unless you're playing in release order.

It's okay to start Uncharted at 2.

Starting any story series at anything besides the first release is stupid

The quality jump between 1 and 2 is big enough that I would recommend people play 2 first. Maybe Remastered 1 on PS4 is better but on original PS3 version was pretty rough.

You can burn through the game in one afternoon. It's not too bad to just run through 1 but you definitely should never skip a game in a numbered series where it's connected. Playing through the jank and noticing the quality jump between games is part of the experience

    >can I play the fourth and fifth games of a series without playing the others, when this is not even a soft reboot like God of War?

I wouldn't play Uncharted again without playing the first three as well
it's very story driven, as we all know

Half of the dialogue between Elena and Nate only matters if you played the first three games and a huge chunk of Chloe's dialogue outright references older games. TLL is also a sequel to 4.

Can you emulate them well? I'm sick of gays just saying 'lol you can emulate it!' and finding out it's a bugfucked mess in some way when you do
      >sorry pal! that one is in the yellow tier on our compatability wiki

anything in the A tier can run the ingame section of their list to completion. their comp list is shit because they only account things playable if it runs on the default settings. majority of the games can be played to completion and some of them just need minor tweaks. everything in my list runs on my 5900x and 1070

Maybe I just have the shittiest luck. I wanted to play Killzone HD without hooking up my PS3 because the controls are just unbearable to me at this point in my life, and of course that game ran like it had AIDS.
          Same thing with Ace Combat.
Same thing with Ratched and Clank

            >Ace Combat.

            >Ratched and Clank

i found videos of all of them working on YT. if you dont have a good cpu then rpcs3 wont run well its a cpu based emulator so you need 8 cores to make it run well. what do you have? look at the list i linked if you arent in A or B tier then that explains why youre struggling. A tier for me runs everything right after downloading it and applying the patches if there are any and checking the wiki for the recommended settings.

              >Assault Horizon
That time I was actually referring to PS2 era Ace Combat which I realize is probably different.

              At the time I had a 8700k and a 1080TI, now I have a 7700x and a 3080ti

Oh I thought you meant ps3 but I don't see why ps2 wouldn't work for you. Also given your hardware now emulating ps3 and 360 should be fine for you. Xenia and rpcs3 work great as long as you have good hardware

why the fuck would they port the last games in the series instead of starting with the first?

No fucking clue, I would even buy the first 3 games at a discount some time if it's a good port.

I wish I would have. first 3 aren't really very fun. maybe read the story and then play 4. idk i just find the other ones really repetitive

      >thinks 4 isn't even though you spend most of the game just walking and listening to characters

its not as bad as the other three, the slow parts are still more interesting. climb shoot talk repeat with occasional horrific jetski part is just not that fun.

They're all decently self-contained, but yeah characters reference older stuff naturally.
If you absolutely have no access to a PS4 or PS3 then I still recommend playing this one. It's a great game regardless.

I don't recommend it. The character interactions and dialogue are built on from the previous games. The main story in each is pretty standalone, but they do expect you to already know and appreciate the characters and their past adventures.

I mean, you could, but I just think you're missing out. Besides, the first three games are fantastic anyway.

No. It won't even let you start the game unless you input the codes that you get at the end of the end-credits scenes in the first 3 to prove you have played them.

in this case Uncharted 1 is the second one, Golden Abyss exists

Kind of. You won't know the characters but its not hard to pick up on. They are all tomb raiders and have raided a lot of tombs in the past. 4 is about him trying to get a normal job and leave the adventuring behind and his inability to do so.

Im following the story seems pretty self contained

This, at most there are references to the previous games, but there is no overarching story or anything. The first 3 games could be completely rearranged and they would still make sense.

The story is kinda generic modern indiana jones wannabe. Gameplay wasn't anything special. Unironically watch the movie with Mark Walberg and Spider-man and it's the same experience.
