It’s not fair. Why don’t they just rerelease the old games in affordable packages?

Wrong. They are owned jointly by Nintendo and TPC. Also here's some background behind them not making Pokemon games anymore.

No, Game Freak own TPC and gave them mandate to act in their stead with regards to the IP. Colo and gale both failed (muh edgy morons still stanning it 18 years after the fact notwithstanding), so TPC/Nintendo didn't greenlight any more efforts (but did spew out MD and ranger sequels as they were popular in their eras).
That Game Freak went and hired the staff of GS who seemed to get what they were all about proves they didn't hate them or the studio rather Nintendo and TPC didn't see value in continually contracting colo-style games when the public already proved themselves largely apathetic to them.

You can trade with emulators now. If you have a flashcart and an old enough DS you can even import your GBA save to your computer, trade with it and your emulated Gamecube game, and then transfer the save back to your DS and trade/transfer the emulated Pokemon to the official games. I know because I did it.

Not really. Dolphin has the GC adaptor compatibility, so you can use it with GBA with ease to transfer stuff. The fact nobody comments on it is because it´s a nuisance to set up; but you ARE able to download the additional stuff. From pokemon and Fire Emblem.

      ?????????

Emulators and Nintendont both incorrectly generate the Pokemon and leave them with incorrect trash bytes. They will always be illegitimate and impossible to transfer up to Bank or Home. You will be seen as a laughing stock in the Pokemon Trading community.
This is an enthusiast board and I expected better from you all.

OP, the only way to properly play these without owning them is burning a disc and playing them on a Gamecube. Emulators and Nintendont are too inaccurate and you'll just be wasting your time.

Ok but who fricking cares about bank and home? Especially that GF made sure to frick you over for attempts to transfer any Pokemon with event moves.
And if you really care, I'm pretty sure you can use Pokehex or something to remove these "incorrect trash bytes" (whatever this means lol, considering that Pokemon is just series of numbers determining stats etc).

        >impossible to transfer up to Bank or Home
Another, if people are emulating why the frick would they be forced to use bank or home? You can use PKheX to completely circumvent it and directly drag and drop/move whole boxes of Pokemon at a time into your newer games.
It's a hell of a lot faster than Pal Park, PokeTransfer and loading screens.

        >Emulators and Nintendont both incorrectly generate the Pokemon and leave them with incorrect trash bytes
PKHex immediately fixes that for you with the proper setup. Though it seems scary at first, you can fix it with a button now, and transfer to home without a hassle. Your point? Oh and before you spout "muh Jirachi", that thing has the specified trash bytes correctly. It's home that considers it a hacked pokemon on itself for some absurd reason. All Groudon, Kyogre, The regis, Rayquaza, etc...even the copied teams of the battle frontier, all pass, saving for that ridiculous scenario like with Jirachi.

And again, it works well to transfer the data for Fire emblem and Sacred Stones. I still fail to see the issue here. Except the hassle of getting a GBA to GCN cable to use the adapter.

You can't transfer your Pokemon to the newest games anyway so who cares lmao.
        >Baaaaaaaaw emulator bad because I won't be able to put my Pokemon on Home Jail!!!
Your Pokemon have literally more freedom on your PC as .pkm files through PKHex than they will ever do on Home.
        have a nice day.

    >Playing on emulator means you lose out on all the cool connections stuff
Not only do most emulators support the interactivity between games (even N64 emulators have transfer pak support, not sure about dolphin and transferring in DS mon for PBR) but it can also be worked around via PKheX. Not to mention cheats that can facilitate things like randomizers or trading before the ppost-game.
As for why they're so expensive, they're pokemon games. All Pokemon games become massively expensive a few decades on and as 2004 was 19 years ago there's gonna be a lot of nostalgia for them. Not to mention all gamecube games released late into the consoles life become stupidly expensive due to not too many copies being produced. It's the same story with Fire Emblem Path to Radiance, RE4 or Twilight Princess despite their much beloved status. And GCN ports of games tend to be the most expensive version likely being on minidisc instead of DVD-R and the GCN itself not selling quite as strongly as the competition gave Nintendo little reason to produce many copies of games, especially once the much more desirable wii was on the horizon.

It’s a marketing scheme. high demand low supply. a monopoly, if you will. They manipulate the value of it that way.

nintendo is probably actually the ones selling used copies for real expensive, pretending to be regular people reselling it. it’s the same marketing that doctor shoppers do. pretty smart marketing on nintendo’s end.
