After the first game's OST and the preview they put out, I thought Lightning Tower was gonna be fantastic, but it was just OK
I think the instruments are to blame.
The melodies are still good and memorable but tracks like Palace Courtyard really make me wish the game was more popular among remixers, and half of the boss themes would better fit as hub level BGMs.
Honestly wasn't impressed with anything I heard in the demo or the pre-release game footage they showed.
For me it's okay at worst, but when a track's good it's damn good.
there were a few gems but overall it doesn't even come close to holding a candle to 1's ost

I played most of 1 (I think I stopped/lost my patience on the final set of stages) and had fun with it except for the bosses. I did story mode just because I thought it'd be interesting.
It wasn't.
How much better is FP2 with its classic mode (I know you have to unlock it, but I know the trick to get it early so it's fine).
Also, don't try to bring up the creator being a troony or the artist being forced into this as a negative against the game. I'm asking about the game itself, I don't care about your discord drama.

It's not necessarily better, it's just bigger. If you were frustrated with FP1 on normal difficulty, then FP2 will be frustrating as well. Both games are hard. However, in FP1 rainbow casual mode was easily visible, in FP2 you should enable Assist Mode options to lower difficulty.

in 2 you can blast right through levels without attacking anything because lolparry and no collision damage
You could do that in the first game as well. The "no collision damage" bit has always been the norm.
Think he just meant adding the parry with no collision damage already present means it's really easy to not bother with enemies in 2 compared to 1.
It's balanced by that that FP1 enemies usually attacked within melee range or fired one bullet, while FP2 enemies do danmaku.
