I love the Chalice Dungeons, but the DLC is still the best From DLC yet.

Stacking curse after curse is fun. IIRC, The half HP curse also halves enemy (physical) damage, though you'll still take the full extent of non-physical attacks.

I unironically loved chalice dungeons. Fromsoft games keep doing that shit where the final couple bosses and areas drop tons of fun gear, right when there's no game left to use it on. Chalice dungeons just give you more scaling content to use all of that shit and minmax the hell out of it.
The dungeons that set your HP to 1 or whatever were some of my favorites. Learning how to fight bosses without taking a single hit was more exciting than anything the base game had to offer.

The overall implementation of chalice dungeons was pretty shit, with the endlessly repetitive layouts, weirdly low enemy pools, and occasional bosses in arenas not nearly big enough to handle them. That Amygdala fight in the room with the pillars that was almost too small to contain the model was a shitshow. But overall the idea was great. Shame all it led to were Elden Ring's godawful dungeons.

        I agree with this anon
I think the dungeons are a bit half-assed, like a lot of the mechanics in these games
but the halves they do ass, they ass them pretty damn well
I hope they don't give up on the concept entirely. it was very disappointing not to see them make a comeback in elden ring, seems like a perfect fit

This. And since I don't want to ruin the rest of the game, it has to be babby-mode. Since each dungeon has a large helping of filler (running through lifts, running through largish areas with a few monsters etc), and you have to do them multiple times, it's absolutely intolerable. I get the appeal of hunting the best gems so you can pwn NG+ bosses but it's so damn tedious.

For Bloodborne it has to be Base game > DLC > Chalice
So literally the opposite of what you said.

    Base Game:
Base game is good, it starts with easily the best level in the game with insane art direction and the best bosses in the game, its perfect, then after you go through Old Yharnam and Catherdral Ward it peaks there.
Forbidden Woods is where the game starts going downhill, the bosses become easy uninspired trash and levels start to get more shallow and more linear as time goes by, its only until the last level that it picks up the pace again but too bad because not a single monster is unique by then, its just recycled mobs.
    7/10

    DLC:
Overrated af with mixed bag bosses, Ludwig and Orphan of Kos are good, Maria is mid and the rest are dogshit.
Same thing applies for weapons, Beast Cutter and Whirglig Saw and Rakyu are good the rest are meh.
And shocker the same applies for levels, Hunter's Nightmare is a boring recycled level, Clock Tower is great and Fishing Hamlet is just ok.

    6/10

    Chalice Dungeon:
Awfully boring grind system that hides one story dungeon behind lots of reptition and recycled content, after you finish 3 of them the magic wares off and you slog through them just to get the plat. They are worse than elden ring caves
    3/10

not even comparable, those bosses can kill you in one shot at like 15 different points throughout each of their fights. If you are getting killed by orphan at the level you're supposed to fight him you are panic rolling into instability damage like 2-3x in a row and crying because he killed you while you were impulsively healing

Laurence is kino and you'll never change my mind. Best music in the game and one of the most challenging fights

      >ouhh hes just cleric beast 1/10

he has like 50 more moves, a 2nd form, is actually hard and you only fight CB for about 3 minutes a playthrough once you become remotely good. CB is like a miniboss warm up for Laurence the Real Deal

        Anonymous

        Not at all.
First Laurence is an extremely important figure in the lore, so for him to turn out to be just a recycled Cleric beast was so underwhelming and lame in all honesty that was garbage whoever designed this boss must get fired.
Second Laurence fight is bad mechanically, there is a lot of undetected weird hitboxes in that fight, his first phase is just cleric beast then he goes under and starts spreading fire, hardly "50 more moves" you are overselling him bigly.
Difficulty doesnt matter to me as much as boss design.
The truth is Bloodborne boss roaster is so mediocre.
The Hemick Witches is a boring gimmick fight that could've been done way better.
Living Failures is a boring meme boss
The one Reborn is absulte dogshit boss that wastes your time, could've been just a spectacle boss like Yhorm the Giant and it would've been much better.
        Micolash, Rom, Shadows, Queen.
There is a lot of wasted potential.

The only actual good bosses in Bloodborne are:
Father Gasicogne, Matyr Logarius, Gehrman, Ludwig, Orphan of Kos and Ebrietas.

The rest of the bosses range from awful to mid.
This is a big issue in a game that relies on its boss fights and combat.

Pthumerian Descendent is an excellent boss and scares me more than any ER boss.
Ebriatas is not that great at all and mostly does that stupid charge attack, very questionable taste. Bloodletting Beast and Blood Starved Beast were both better. Yes Blood Starved Beast, who you can dodge those 2 phase-1 moves by circlestrafing and who puts you in a poisoned panic state every time he touches you.
Cleric Beast and Laurence both existing does not make their mostly shared design bad, the CB bossfight is very good. And Maria is 90% as good as Gehrman

Pretty sure that only constitutes like 5% of the fight though, and then he will do super damaging high-tracking palm smash with an unexpected followup sweep where the followup kills like 60% of beckoners I played with.
Also people regularly got fricked by this sweep attack

      >base game over DLC
      >Maria mid

        Anonymous

Maria is mid because she is just another npc that you can stunlock with normal attacks, the fight against Maria is you spamming R1 until you run out of stamina, then you back off and refill and repeat until she is dead.
The only time where Maria cannot be staggered is when she is transforming to her next phase, then she gains poise, you can damage her but risk getting knocked back, so the best thing is to damage her few times then back off before she bombs.
This is an extremely underwhelming fight compared to Father Gasicogne and Gehrman where you feel the dance of Bloodborne emphasized. Maria is a joke and not to mention you can parry her to death with no effort thanks to the awful parry system
Lies of P exposed many problems with Bloodborne design.

I swear that Bloody Crow you fight in the cathedral is more challenging and fun than Lady incel Maria

          3/10

          >no arguments
          >unironically thinks "overrated af with mixed bag" is an argument
          Bait used to be bait

I always laugh at people loving ER but crying about BB and it's chalice dungeons. 70% of ER is literally a shittier version of chalice dungeons only difference is BB has different themes for the same dungeon building blocks while ER uses the same rooms with identical clutter placement throughout the entire game.

I don't know what Fromsoft was thinking giving you the best weapon in the game from the start. That whip to cane trick attack is just to stylish and satisfying that it's impossible to use any other weapon

      Anonymous

I think the cane was severely underrated by people who didn't grasp how great whip form was, or who maybe just used it early and gave up before scaling did it's thing. Could just beat the frick out of shit constantly no matter the spacing.

      >beating a great boss you fight once per playthrough in 90 seconds
Optimal play (esp shit like parrying over and pover) is boring. The best way is to be as stylish as possible with jump attacks, trick attacks and variety, locking/unlocking the camera, using worse weapons on purpose to drag the fight out and savor it

If you can't understand the appeal of dunking the frick out of a boss in 90 seconds I don't know why you play these games. It's not like you're going to pull shit like that off on your first try.

I played this game for like 1000 hours and most of that was coop and spelunking

Actual hardest bosses I had to get most psyched for when I saw they were next:
    1. FRC Undead Giant (twin scythes)
    2. Loran Darkbeast
    3. NG+ Laurence

actually defiled Amy was harder than Laurence

Bloodletting Beast was the hardest boss for me. I couldn't read the hitbox or dodge timing on its jab attack if you put a gun to my head. That c**t always gets with it, and it doesn't help that its weird ranged shockwave attacks and flappy fur cause the framerate to shit itself harder than is normal for this game.

BLB was fun. Are you talking about the super punch? I just counted to 3 in my head and dodged. Pretty much all the delays are multiples of 0.5 seconds.

Thats what pissed me off about Lies of P, they made every delay like 0.39 seconds -> 1.14 seconds -> 0.62 seconds just to frick with you and give it zero rhythm
