The value of cryptocurrencies have crashed so using GPUs to mine them is no longer cost-efficient. During the heyday of mining the demand for GPUs drove their prices up.

Basically gaming rigs are snarling "Yeah, I'm thinking I'm back!"

In europe prices are still fricked, especially with Nvidia. 3060Ti regularly going 600€ still. 6700XT for 500-550€.

For about a month and a half now best buy in the US has had available stock of basically all Nividia 30 series cards at MSRP several times a week. Finally got a 3070 for $500 with no sales tax ;p

            Anonymous

Paying $500 for an x070 GPU isn't normal OR a great deal, that kind of money once got you some flavor of x080, and the reason sellers are willing to go lower on 3070's recently is because they're still expensive sidegrades to anyone still using a basic 1080 or above, so people who are on a 970 or don't own a GPU at all - but know that x060's are garbage no matter the gen - will settle for the next bracket up, because 7 is better than 6, yet both cards are still gimped memory-wise

An ACTUAL upgrade to someone's eternal 1080 ti is the 3080, but the traditional x080 bracket's pricing isn't ever coming back, because not only are you paying the hypothetical crypto tax, you're paying Nvidia's more-than-8GB-of-RAM tax and "lol yeah you're never going back to AMD drivers" tax

a rose by any other name
if the performance changes, the name of the tier of GPU is completely irrelevant
you understand that's just marketing right?

                Anonymous

                >you understand that's just marketing right?
It isn't, the cards are segmented into brackets based on their memory system, which is one of the biggest deciding factors in how well your giant resolution plays with a GPU, and why people continue to scratch their heads over their trusted 1080 ti's performing better than new 3060 ti's, especially at higher resolutions

3060's are 192-bit, and will never have more than GDDR6
3070's are 256-bit, and you need to buy a ti for GDDR6X
3080's are 320/384-bit depending on the model, they always have GDDR6X
The new 3090's will always have 384-bit GDDR6X

The GPU itself isn't the most expensive thing on the card, it's the RAM, and in addition to Nvidia wasting their resources on worthless brackets, phones have ensured GPU's are also at the back of the line in terms of RAM fabrication, and it's been this way forever

The issue is that I've been forced to deal with shitty GPU prices for so long I don't care if I have to wait another year for a deal.

              I WILL outlast them.

The most lucrative crypto you can expect to still mine with gpus, eth, is supposed to be abandoning the reward model that benefits these bastards. These things went from gold to junk for for people trying to make magic money machines

        >mining with GPU’s
As someone who works for a mining company, no. Just no. You would have to mine 24/7 to make maybe a few dozen dollars a month from a single 3070 versus making hundreds to thousands a day if you have the capital using antminers on someone’s site where do you don’t have to worry about airflow, heat issues or repairs. Only middle class people at best would do something like this rig at home.

      >>HEY GUYS USED GPUS ARE LITERALLY THERMITE EXPLOSIONS BECAUSE BUTTCOIN

I never said that. You shouldn't buy used GPUs because they're likely worn out from mining and you can't RMA them.

this lol. most cryptochads run their GPU's underclocked and undervolted at constant load, ironically making them less prone to catastrophic failure than used gaming cards, only thing that's most likely fricked are the fan bearings but you can get replacement fans for like 10$ on aliexpress or just mount an aftermarket cooler like the xtreme iv for max overkill

As far as sensible GPU-mined coins go, Litecoin crashing didn't make Radeon R9 cards any cheaper, and Ether crashing hasn't made non-3060 cards any cheaper, 3-fan 1080 ti's are only now starting to hit the under-$400 tier, and prices will never go back to normal so long as manufacturers can tell themselves "this card MAY generate income!"

      Anonymous

Apparently gpus stopped generating income, that's why nvidia delayed their newest ones.
amd keeps earning money because they sell to console manufacturers.
