This is the most moronic and petty Black person tier take ever, yet you always see it sooner or later in these threads.

      >b-but I dindu nuffin!
In your smooth miniature brain this maybe sounds like you're contributing something to the conversation but you're not. While everyone else is discussing the motivations of the factions and potential consequences of supporting one over the other all you can think "I dindu nuffin" like you honestly believe that Tullius personally wanted you killed for some unknown reason. The starting scene is obviously only meant to be a cool setup and introduction to the dragons as a well as a kind of throwback to the start of Oblivion. It has no relevance to the civil war plot at all, it's like saying that you'd support one faction over the other because a nameless guard belonging to a particular city attacked you at some point.

      >DURR REDGUARD Black person Black person Black person
Most of this is accurate but him b***hing about Hammerfell not knowing how to read between the lines is ironic. Hammerfell still had Imperial legions stationed in it even as an "independent" province, it was an excuse to keep fighting the Dominion without it being an "official" Imperial conflict and giving them an excuse to spark up a Cyrodilic invasion again before they recovered.

      >the least revisionist Imperial
The war started with the invasion of Hammerfell with the Thalmor following it up with an attack on Cyrodil because the Empire was weaker than expected. The Redguards were not traitors for already being in Hammerfell fighting the exact same war; and it was a token force that was left behind in Hammerfell, not the other way around. The White-Gold Concordat was signed right before the Markarth Incident, so there was hardly any time between the two to make the judgement that "Talos worship was banned but the ban wasn't enforced". But based on the existence of an entire book written by the Imperials about how Talos worship was a mistake, I'd argue the Imperials fully intended on carrying out the ban. And it misses the point that the Thalmor would have found any excuse to demand they enforce the ban anyway, the Empire should have told them to frick off for meddling in their legal system. Also lol at the
      >redguards then, with their largely undamaged military
As though half of the Thalmor forces weren't in Hammerfell.

      Anonymous

This argument always falls apart due to one thing: the Empire could have just acquiesced to the Stormcloaks and lifted the Talos ban. If they had done so, Skyrim would have been kept from plunging into civil war. It would have ended the Stormcloak momentum and maintained what remained of the Imperial unity.

If the combined forces of the various provinces truly were prepared to return to war, renigging on the Concordant would have meant nothing. It would have only forced the Dominion to redeclare war in an unprepared state. It would have turned the tide and ended the war in its entirety.

The problem is that the Empire is a bloated and corrupt husk of its former glory. Mede II was too proud to allow rebellion in the North and determined it was more important to waste resources ensuring Skyrim was brought to heel than eat some fricking humble pie and acknowledge the legitimacy of Talos - the fricking founder of the Empire. This is doubly moronic when you consider the Nords' history, not only of supporting the Empire but also waging total war against any and all existential threats to their way of life.

Ysgramor eradicated an entire fricking race of Mer because one settlement was lost. The Nords have never fricked around when it comes to retaliation and antagonizing them waa always guaranteed to create a political and logistical quagmire that would be ruinous for the Empire.

He's no genius, but he's competent enough. Windhelm is a fairly prosperous hold in comparison to the rest, Ulfric proved himself in battle to be a straightforward (but capable) brute, and mastery of the voice shows at least some connection to Nord traditions. I do agree with Empiregays when they say that Tullius is smarter than Ulfric, but Tullius is also tied to a rapidly sinking ship.

If it wasn't made obvious by the Greybeard's name, it takes fricking forever to master the voice and it's use hasn't been common for centuries. Mastery wasn't the right word, you're right, but it is still an accomplishment that hardly any other living person has achieved.

The Ebony Warrior is a good example of this. As a level 80 NPC and former Hero, he presumably has decades of adventuring under his belt to be one of the strongest NPCs in the game. Despite this, who knows three shouts.

Ulfric is not as prolific or successful a warrior and certainly not as well trained or equipped. Knowing one word is substantial. Most Nords see it as a lifelong endeavor and revere those who can wield even the most modest of words.

Ulfric isn't a Master, but he is well trained by even the most strict standards of the setting to be even able to shout Fus.

          Anonymous

Basically. I've been poking these holes in their moronic arguments for over a decade. It's always the same shit - circle jerking about "tactical genius" and "based warriors" without ever considering the actual strategic and political implications of choices made.

Ulfric was driven to do what he did because the Empire turned their backs on the provinces. They allowed Hammerfell to be raped and Skyrim's very identity to be subverted. There are consequences for these decisions and failing to properly deal with them from a ground level perspective delegitimizes the authority of the Empire.

You can't rule people without justice. Injustice will be answered with violence time and time again. Mede was already an illegitimate Emperor by blood, but his failure to maintain unity and cohesion amongst his subjects made it necessary for his demise and the collapse of the broken regime.

Talos himself stated it to the Nerevarine - the Empire's time is over and it has to be replaced with something better. Ulfric may not be the agent of that change, but the actions in Hammerfell and Skyrim can only bring about the next stage of Tamriel. What matters is that the Dominion is kept from their goal.

This, most of the argument over who's wrong or right in Skyrim comes from a general lack of information and misconceptions. It's never actually about the ethos of the factions, it's all just
      >does this dossier imply Ulfric is a Thalmor asset or not
      >does the Empire actually have the means to fight the Thalmor
and on like this. It's all just reinterpreting the same lore and adding in information that simply wasn't provided. It doesn't help that the wikis are where most people get their info since lol at reading the books in-game, and the wikis add frickloads of extraneous info that wasn't in the fricking games.

My main gripe about the CW is its such a forefront for the introduction but takes a back seat to everything else after it. The first person you wake up and see is a Stormcloak soldier and a gagged Ulfric. You get sent to the gallows with Stormcloaks under the Empire and sentenced by Tullius. But after that its hardly anything. Fetch a horn, travel to a dwarven ruin, fight some dragons, meet Paarthurnax, fight Alduin, trap Odaahving and so on. I mean it would be different if they intertwined but they dont. Especially when Alduin is said to be devouring soldiers from both sides and getting stronger.

It did, but the civil war being relegated to side content was an intentional decision. Integrating it was the heated debate during the game's development, and in the end those in leadership gave their deciding votes against it (presumably because the design lead has some very strong opinions about what goes in his games)

How do people who are so fricking moronic end up thinking they are smart intelligent people capable of understanding good world building?

Its not even morally grey, its just multi-faceted on the most basic level and yet you are still too moronic to understand such a basic concept. The people of skyrim all have different opinions that may or may not be true or even partially true just like real life. So much better then the shit writing of NV where its just one side good other side bad and a simple chat with their leaders will reveal their entire thought proccess where they will just randomly decide to open up to a complete stranger about all their internal thoughts and demands.

You meet ceasar and he just tells you everything, you meet Ulfric and you still can't decide if he truly believes the rhetoric he says or is just using it as a tool for personal empowerment.

Who cares what that homosexual thinks? He's the culmination of multiple people anyway. All the cool shit you hear that he did was done by other people that he sucked up.

    Ulfrik
    >starts the rebellion when the Empire is at its weakest on his home turf
    >fails to take over whole of Skyrim militarily
    >fails to convince the majority of the population to support him
    >wastes resources in a pointless meat grinder that will ultimately serve only the talmor

    Tullius
    >outsider send from Cyrodil to Syrim to fix a problem
    >doesn't know the province or it's people
    >has limiter resources
    >quickly adapts to the situation
    >compensates his lack of local knowledge with a strong Nordic woman
    >in span of two months is able to outplay Ulfrik on his home field and capture him
    >would have ended the rebellion right there, despite the talmor trying to save it, if only the apocalypse didn't start

Tullius is Cezar and Ulfrik is Vercingetorix

hopefully we will get a chance to join Tullius during the crossing of Rubicon

I would help Ulfric with conquering Skyrim and then usurp the throne after shouting him to death like he deserves.
After that I would attempt to unite as many of the provinces as possible (through force if necessary) and then go on a crusade to remove the altmer race from existence

Unironically Tullius. Dragonborn is bound to become emperor sooner or later anyways, also Empire winning the civil war is canon.

What empire are you talking about? Their is a loose alliance between Cyrodil , High Rock, and half of Skyrim at the start of the game. Cyrodil is currently compromised due to ~~*Altmer*~~ money buying influence in the colleges and press.
      Not seeing any empire.

Stormcloaks. Ulfric is the rightful king and with the power of the voice he can easily destroy the empire and reclaim Skyrim for the Nords and restore the power of Talos.

    >b-but muh Thalmor plant
He is not, he was merely tortured and interrogated by them. The Thalmor see Ulfric as a useful tool to destroy the empire. They Thalmore themselves don't stand against the might of Skyrim and Hammerfall.
