It needs it. The game got so stale and there's no chance we get another smash game anytime soon. Hopefully they scale back the scope of the next one and actually focus on character quality and balance as well as online. Ultimate just became actively unfun to play. It feels like this game is already solved at this point.
Solved as in there isn't really anything else to learn about the games mechanics or how the characters interact with eachother. The current best characters will always be the best and no new tech is likely to be discovered to change the way the game is played.
Nintendo has never given a single fuck about that though. they release the next game to prop up console/online service sales when it makes sense. So if anything they're probably brainstorming what to do for Smash in the next switch. They most likely haven't even reached out to soccer guy yet.
>So why are there rumors of this game getting a big update?
is based on an amiibo restock along with a GC controller restock, also the new amiibo restocks have the 3DS and Switch removed
Nintendo is apparently restocking Amiibos and GameCube controllers. Probably to make Steve, Sora, and Kazuya Amiibos a thing.
[...]
The last times they restocked Gamecube controllers was shortly before Ultimates release and the announcement of the second FP
I don't think it's going to be another character pass. Sakurai is still taking a break from vidya, the most we'll probably get is a major balance patch
Agreed. A big balance patch would be a godsend honestly, would like to have a reason to boot it up again
Call it a hot take but if they go through with a balance patch, I hope it's a meaningful one. I want changes that fix the game's issues, buffs that matter, new tech. Otherwise they shouldn't bother updating the game at all since it will still be solved either way
There was literally a Smash Bros tournament on September 1st and they're restocking because they figured more people are going ro interested in Smash after seeing it. There's no new updates or characters. They've done this before.

It will never happen but I wish characters could receive moveset changes via updates mainly the echoes who were obviously rushed and didn’t get enough time to them because of DLC, otherwise than that, updates don’t really get me that hype because the changes are so minor and only competitive players give a damn about them.
>So why are there rumors of this game getting a big update?
It's September so it's about time for Nintendo to do its video game season direct. >leakerfags saying September 13th >actual news websites talking about Nintendo showing off Switch 2 at GDC to developers, with one leaker going as far as saying it was running the fucking Matrix Unreal 5 demo
So it's easy bait for people that will want to believe anything and everything.
Nintendo has no incentive to update the game past DLC releases unless it contains a game-breaking bug or something. The devs don't care about the game being unbalanced otherwise, and Steve is direct proof of that.
My Phazon queen. I love making folks suffer at ledge.
If this update winds up being real I seriously hope we get a whole new wave of buffs and nerfs that are researched correctly. Sephiroth especially needs some help.
>Sephiroth especially needs some help
It's so baffling why they showed so much restraint when developing Sephiroth compared to how they developed Steve and Kazuya. All the Squeenix reps in Smash feel like base roster characters.
But what would you change about Sephiroth that wouldn't make him too polarizing?
Also, nta, but maybe make him a TAD faster? Maybe his aerials can change angles? I know something about him is lackluster, but I can't put my finger on it.
I feel the same about Sora but dont get me started on that poor child

Pikachu main here who tried to main Sephiroth and ended up being miserable for it before switching back. The main two things Sephiroth needs is less endlag on his moves that are meant to pressure opponents and more kill power on his moves without the wing. As of now, he can't really properly apply pressure since many of his moves are unsafe on shield and on hit despite the range they have. Without the wing, his kill power is also super inconsistent even if the sweetspots of his moves are landed. Designing his win condition (the wing) so that he needs to take percent to get it and then making him as light as Pikachu is such a backward ass way to design a character, especially when characters like Joker, Terry, and Kazuya exist.
I concur. It gets to the point I don't even wanna land as Seph near the opponent. And yeah, no damn idea why wind's activation is his saving grace, but it's so inconsistent.
There are just so many little things that make it feel like Sephiroth was a rushed character. Moves like his BAir and USmash randomly phasing through opponents, his grab not extending as far as his arm reaches, and don't even get me started on the abomination that is Octaslash. I really wish Sephiroth was a good character, but as of right now he's just a barely high tier gatekeeper who automatically loses to anyone with a decently aggressive rushdown playstyle.
>knockback tuning
Ultimate has shitty balloon knockback making most combos that would've worked in earlier entries not work at all in Ult, and the combos that do work are short uninteresting strings that work every time. Knockback tangential mechanics like DI and SDI are completely gutted so not only are the attackers unable to vary their combos, the defender is unable to do anything to get out of them, the interesting interplay between offensive move selection and defensive mechanics is completely gone. Many moves in previous games also didn't really work right, typically multihitting moves, so they're now given really weird properties to force them to work correctly which results in stupid exploits like drag downs.
Sakurai will stop at no lengths to neuter the gameplay of his own child because he sees it as nothing more than a fun excuse for casuals to beat eachother up with their favourite series representative.
the entire point is Smash from the ver first game is to NOT have inescapable combos you drooling retard. Go play traditional fightan if you want "interesting" combos that end the whole match from accidentally winning neutral once
>Knockback tangential mechanics like DI and SDI are completely gutted so not only are the attackers unable to vary their combos
this is complete horseshit. Get good.
You have no idea what you're on about. Ultimate uses a combination of classic 'trajectory DI' and 'vectoring'. The upshot of which is the only thing that matters as a defender is if you hold left or right. If you're being combod horizontally all you have to do is hold away to have the best chance of getting out of the combo, there's no need to mix up between away, up or down to escape the follow up (not that it typically matters because of balloon knockback anyway). Getting knocked vertically for combos would be another story but balloon knockback plus the change to make gravity not effect characters while in hitstun makes veritcal combos equally one dimensional.
You will not out autism my knowledge of the internal mechanics of these piece of shit games.
the entire point is Smash from the ver first game is to NOT have inescapable combos you drooling retard. Go play traditional fightan if you want "interesting" combos that end the whole match from accidentally winning neutral once
A game can both have combos that are long *and* escapable. Ultimate has short inescapable combos or no combo at all. There's no middle ground here which is what my post is about.
> A game can both have combos that are long *and* escapable
how the fuck can a combo be long if you can escape it? that doesn't make sense, either it's long because you can't escape it or it isn't because you can cut it short by escaping. In other words, it's either a "true combo" or a situational thing that may or may not work at any given time (the whole point of Smash) and there's plenty of that... most combos aren't true. This is the middle ground.
No combo at all means I hit you and I can't really do anything else and neutral resets. This only really happens a lot when you're playing a shit character. Like half the cast has insanely good combo strings and setups, some even have long ass sequences that lead to 0 to death if played just right. Luigi even has one that's inescapable but thankfully it's super hard to pull of consistently.
It really sounds like you want Smash to play like a normal fightan.

>how the fuck can a combo be long if you can escape it? that doesn't make sense...
For traditional fighting games, mechanics like combo breakers, burst etc.
For smash it's simple, DI. When DI as a mechanic is strong it allows the defender to make the task of continuing the combo harder for the offender. DIing at the angle to make you hardest to reach, DIing at an angle which surprises the offender, the momentary surprise making them unable to follow up in time, DIing in a way that it's ambiguous which follow up will hit, you can DI towards a platform, do this perfectly enough and you'll be able to tech before they can follow up. Smash DI too can make certain combos harder, or can invalidate certain moves (multi hitting moves) if performed correctly.
That's not to say the the combos are "impossible", but it means that the defender gets to constantly test the skills of the offender as opposed to what we have now which is 'oh he did the three hit string and that's it' or occassionally 'he got the guaranteed two hit kill confirm'.
It's key to understand here that smash is pretty much the only fighting game where the guy getting hit is actually still playing the game. If you think the combo being feasibly possible but requiring a lot of skill when the defender is playing well isn't the same as a combo being both long and escapable then I challenge you to look at high level melee where the top top pros frequently get long ass combos that're sick to watch and perform, but also frequently drop combos due to what I described above. Maybe in some semantic way they're not the same but the actual result is. And I think that's more interesting and more fun, you get to say 'damn bro that was sick, I made this as hard as I could but you still got me' instead of 'wow you sure spent a lot of time in training mode'. Most importantly this has almost no effect on casuals.
>So why are there rumors of this game getting a big update?
Primary reason is some autistic man went through all the amiibo restocks and found they always coincided with announcements, game releases, or some other big event (like the Mario movie). The Mario Line got a restock days before Wonder's Direct. Smash got a restock in August and is getting another in November. In addition, they are also restocking the Gamecube controllers which they haven't done since just before FP2 was announced. Nintendo also started promoting Smash out of the blue and brought the props out of storage and held an invitational at Gamecon. There is also the oddities surrounding the Noah and Mio amiibos: announcement a month before the game was done, not showing what the amiibo looks like, the facts that all the Xenoblade amiibos have been for Smash. Most likely it will be for NSO. MK8 is ending, and Smash is the only major multiplayer game not to get some kind of content.
NASB2 needs its own Krystal in Kitty Katswell if it really wants to pander to all kinds of Waifu fans, I guess Ember appeals to the Goth Girl Appreciators?
shut up tendie
Ult kind of sucks so I ruin other people's fun by playing Min Min or Pyra/Mythra.

I love my Min Min Bros!

He ain't no SMT protag, he jobs Raditz
Omnipotent Orb. Raditz has no Almighty attacks. GG.
I'm joking by the way.

imagine if Ultimate gets a Project M mode
It already has a few
?si=raQAQOz28Aa2lpua
?si=GbK1eYhV6tSfneQT
I played HDR today, it kicks ass.
Ridley's buffs were the only reason why I played it
The devs should nerf Dark Pit, fuck that guy
HDR Min Min Slays!
Damn I had no idea Ult had its own PM. How can people look at this and not think this is how the original game should be.
I mean an official one
>DUDE UNBALANCED GAMEPLAY FOR TOURNEY AUTIST!
Fuck this gay shit where are the mods that add a bunch of characters?
theres Smash Remix for 64 and PMEX for Brawl
the melee one is unfinished but had Raichu and Skullkid
Ultimate already has 90+ characters, go play Legacy XP
It only has 82 + dessert.
Squad Strike is just All Star Versus but nobody plays it
Even Stage Morph is a useless new addition

I hope is not a FP3 but atleast a DX or none
too many good picks are in AT hell

>vegeta up in the sky launching an earth shattering galik gun
everyone in Bejita tier is at least a planet buster
meant for
You clearly don't know your Fire Emblem lore.
I was tempted to put Ike and Robin in Nappa tier but Raditz is probably too fast for them both
Not just those two, Corrin and Byleth's got dragon god powers, I don't think Raditz is competent enough to beat them.
Enlightened Ness clears them all
Like half the roster can beat Vegeta, even more sayain saga Vegeta.
Pit, Palutena, Pyra and Mythra destroy all of them.
The Answer Lies In the Heart of Battle! Ryu for me.
Idk what the consensus is, but I really do think they need to enforce a best 2 out of 3 rule. that or put For Glory in. Like they did before.
They should enforce a good fucking netcode so people want to play quickplay instead of waiting for the 1v1 tourneys
Let us fucking change our characters between matches
Captain falcon and falco are my favorites recently
You have to let it go anon, the game stopped updating almost 2 years ago

Can we finally get more online modes?
I want to play squad strike online.
Mr CHAD and Watch of course.
maybe robin sometimes
Robin would be a really fun character if they were faster. Maybe nerf the levin sword but allow them to start the match with it, like in Smash 4.
My Phazon queen. I love making folks suffer at ledge.

As someone who plays legitimate low tier characters get over it he’s fine.
How bout no, gay?
Only retards and rostrafagging cocksmokers ever fucking play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
God I fucking hate this game and the hack who made it
I don't get it, why should I be angry at this video?

An Ultimate Port or FP3 would be the most boring predictable outcome ever
I would be okay with Deluxe if they do some gameplay tweaks and make it so some AT guys are not stuck as ATs
So what do Smashfags think about the NASB2 roster.
Ultimate has taught me that it really doesn't matter who's "in." See pic related:
This. I don't care if the cartoon girl who inspired a shooting is in, it looks and plays like shovelware garbage.
NASB2 needs its own Krystal in Kitty Katswell if it really wants to pander to all kinds of Waifu fans, I guess Ember appeals to the Goth Girl Appreciators?
I really hope Smash 6 takes some inspiration from the slime mechanic.
Looks fun, will give it a try. This and Rivals 2.
because the switch 2 is out soon (possibly q4 next year) and everyone is expecting Ultimate Deluxe even though Nintendo hasn't even hinted at it.
The only update Ultimate should get is a total overhaul of its netcode so online isn't garbage
Is the update going to make it so I can play SMW music on Melee Yoshi's Island? I don't give a shit if it doesn't.
Just add Crash Bandicoot and Leon Kennedy and i will be happy.
this game will never get an update, but there will be a new smsah bros for the new nintendo system
I can't wait for Tr4.5.1h
