Rabbits suck to pet. They look soft, and their fur is soft, but they have no squish to them.
Throw all of your silverware in a pile, then put a washcloth over the pile and pet it. That's what rabbits feel like.

        no standard it is then

Not enough teachers fricking their students dynamics. Do enlighten me of more entries in that genre

vndb has over 500 teacher protagonist entries

They want the same but not literally the same. If you're not a zoomer gay you probably have already experienced all video games have to offer with new games just reusing the tired old concepts over and over. It's the same thing.

I think games still have new stuff to offer. such as with outer wilds and rain world. though nowadays I spend most gaming time in map editor modes

Tropes are common because they work, I'll never get this alleged confusion about how popular things are popular. Genres are genres because they follow certain genre conventions. Surely you must be smart enough to understand this. If these tropes weren't well-liked they wouldn't be popular and would not be common. They're ubiquitous because the audience likes and expects them when picking up a work of a particular genre. Complaining about this shit is like complaining that a shooter gives you a crosshair on screen, lets you aim with a mouse and has character movement on WASD, or that an RPG gives you a character which levels up. They are fundamental parts of the "genre" that people expect to have when choosing a work of said genre.

you're conflating tropes with genres. latex bunny girls aren't a genre. eroge, slice of life, sci-fi, etc are genres. interesting stuff can still be done with latex bunny girls, I'm sure. just like fantasy work can still do interesting stuff with elves. but a picture of a latex bunny girl asking to be pet is like a picture of an elf saying they are better than humans. nothing new about that. something creative involving elves would be something from the 36 lessons of vivec, for example.

You don't understand what a genre is. A genre is a collection of similarities across multiple different works. Not every work will tick every box, obviously, but will have many in common with its primary genre. These similarities are tropes, character archetypes, a world/setting premise, character behaviors, overarching story structures and so on. So yes, the presence of certain tropes can contribute to a particular work belonging to a genre.

Dude, literally everything made in modern day is a retreading of things we've already written, tropes are just generalizations of style and delivery

are there any visual novels with art on the same scale as a manga? as in, tons of unique art and interesting panel designs. not just the same handful of sprites for each character and the same handful of background pics.

      Anonymous

The idea of having 20 - 80 hours of unique art is completely delusional, even without a VN budget.

        Anonymous

vns don't need to be that long. there are good vns under 5 hours

          Anonymous

having every single scene use unique art would be a bit much, VN's are usually low budget, it's why you have all those awful free RPG maker games and now that 3D modeling is so easy to get into and make goblinas that people will pay for, why bother with making detailed backgrounds or whatever if it only shows up once? Only impactful scenes are gonna have that kind of attention

            Anonymous

I understand it would require a higher budget than most vn makers have. I'm just asking if there are any examples of it.

Not every work will tick every box, obviously, but will have many in common with its primary genre. you responded to the least important part of the post and neglected to say anything about the meat of what I said.

              Anonymous

Because there is no meat to what you said. You're questioning why similar elements appear in works of a particular genre, they appear because they're part of the genre conventions that literally define it. The question is nonsensical. Beyond that not everything needs to be original or innovative or new to be enjoyed, that's a fallacy. It's just not true. Any cursory observation of media in general should clearly show you that it is not true. People can enjoy standard elves who think they're superior and they can enjoy a standard bunny girl acting submissive and affectionate or whatever the trope is. Indeed there are genres where these depictions are expected by the audience, because again such depictions are the standard there and when a person specifically picks a work of said genre they pick it BECAUSE they want to see those elements.

                Anonymous

everything you said there just amounts to "people have no standards so they enjoy this stuff". why are you trying to pass this off what you're saying as something different?

                Anonymous

Nah, that's not what I've said. If that's how you want to do it, what I'm mostly getting at is that you're just a smug butthole high on the stink of his own farts who thinks he's good enough to judge other people's standards, but your lack of understanding of basic concepts betrays deep ignorance at best or outright stupidity at worst, so in the end you definitely don't have what it takes to make calls on what others enjoy.
