I wonder why zoomers like him so much since they don't have much in common with some 40+ year old dude.

James is only a few years older than me so I kind of connected well with his childhood stories.

          Anonymous

Not that anon, I was 18 in 2010, and I had found Nerd's videos early on in 2006 or so. I think AVGN's general appeal is how James is just a dude going through some old games that you don't hear people talk about, with some potty mouth thrown in. That's like two topics most kids are into in one.

Of course, there's also the fact that when it comes to older retro stuff, you hear the major popular releases or controversies, but rarely the stinkers that came and went. Everyone's played some bad games in their youth, so it's fun to watch someone's experiences with those less-than-stellar titles.

          Anonymous

AVGN videos are self-contained. You can enjoy them even if you didn't play the game he's talking about.
Also he seems happy to share his childhood experiences with people who are younger than him. Unlike others who act like console generations are a secret club.

His movie performed well and landed him pull in the Hollywood cinematic world where he had all the budget and prestige to faithfully recreate the horror movies he’s always loved with practical effects and cheese.

      Also, his hairline didn’t recede.

Someone sits down and tells him that his home movies actually aren't that impressive, and only get praised because everyone loves cheesy home movies. James realizes he needs to learn actual filmmaking technique, so he uses AVGN as an outlet to improve as a director until he starts making the movie. For the movie he shoots locally, the cast is AVGN characters and it's basically an extra long episode of the show. Uses the movie to flex what he's learned and breaks into the industry.

But this would never happen. One, because he's not that self-aware. And two, he doesn't have that much ambition anyway.

Exact most fans didn't care for the movie, if Mike and bootsy could act in fricking YouTube vids why couldn't they have been in the movie as his sidekicks? James bs excuse is avgn doesn't know Mike and bootsy, board James does but somehow introducing token Black and token girl(standin for his ogre wife) to cuck him makes way more sense.

AVGN movie was a mild success, he's and honest-to-god independent film-maker, no big break or A24 or whatever. Cinemassacre either becomes a real production company releasing direct-to-video b-movies or James finds one to release small trashy stuff, eventually grows a following and becomes like the takashi miike of the west.

It's unsettling when people say "grandparents" instead of "parents" it makes me realize how young the average person is here.

This is what I see when I think about my grandparents.
Pic is from a family home video recorded in 1955.

Wood paneling felt more like a 70s and 80s thing. They had them earlier but it didn't feel over used like during those decades.

He became a carpenter the last time he was involved with cinemassacre when his attempt at a music career went nowhere past avgn, him and James sort of lost contact with each other over the years since they don't really have any reason to work together anymore as his theme song has been sort of phased out.

In that one disaster of a behind-the-scenes episode he called Super Pitfall a "basic" episode in a negative way, just because the episode barely had any live-action stuff
It's the same problem as Board James and You Know What's Bullshit, instead of making simple board game reviews or rants, he felt the need to make Board James and the Bullshit Man actual characters that he could act as and write stories around

I hate the live action shit. Even going back to the days of dressing up unfunny Mike in goofy ass outfits and doing unfunny impressions was never the reason why I watched AVGN. It was the informative shit that made it entertaining.

I saw James Rolfe at a grocery store in New Jersey yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Rolling Rock in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the beers and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each beer and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Why is this guy incapable of creating something that isn’t centred around himself? The narcissistic fricker has made about 10 autobiographical documentaries. Even the “documentaries” he makes that aren’t completely about him, like the mowden one, are basically just travel journals in which he talks about himself constantly. I would’ve thought all this negative feedback lately might have opened his eyes, but no, he’s still a pretentious dickbrain.
