Playing Xenoblade Chronicles 3, have a massive backlog, bought Mega Man 11 and Yooka Laylee Impossible Lair, also need to finish my backlog, gonna start "Super Mario Bros 5" on Super Mario Maker 2 later this night

Yeah, hyped for Bayo 3 but gonna buy it eventually, I need to buy Splat 3 first

Hyped for some upcoming boomer shooters like Rise of the Triad and Phantom Fury

I still need to finish Xenoblade 3, but the plot killed my motivation. I'll probably knock it out after the DLC drops. Other than that, yeah, grinding it out in Splatoon, waiting for the day they give the Splattershot Pro a non-shit sub, although losing the Crab Tank will suck.

I'm playing Voice of Cards: The Beasts of Burden by Yoko Taro

      Anonymous

Do those games ever get more mechanically complex? I tried the demo of the first one and it was a beyond bog-standard turn-based RPG that didn't even use its card gimmick for anything neat beyond optional minigames. Also what the frick why is there already two of those games? I swear the first one is less than a year old.

        Anonymous

The first game is an overall very simple experience but in a lot of ways captures what's fun about fantasy style JRPGs. The basic formula is addictive and the game goes from silly humor to Yoko wackiness, although it's very easy. The second game is much longer, harder and has a more fleshed out, deeper, more complex and darker story. They refined the game mechanics, which gives more challenges. This felt a lot more Yoko Taro than the first entry. Overall, it carried the comfiness of the first game but with more polished aspects in regards to the story and the difficulty. I missed the first game's party customization, but the combat abilities were more creative for sure. I cannot comment on the third game so far but so far it looks like it's continuing with the second game's dark and complex route but can't tell what will happen as I'm still in Chapter 1.
        >Also what the frick why is there already two of those games? I swear the first one is less than a year old.
Yeah, Yoko found a niche for such a genre and the series was a success so he kept making more of them while adding and experiencing things with each title. Square Enix gave him the greenlight to make more since making them doesn't need big budget and they sell quite good for a low-budget game. Wish they'd give him the greenlight to make his next major game, either a new IP or a game part of the DrakeNieR series but unfortunately they still don't trust him and he himself say he has to battle with the Square Enix execs for funds and support.

Splatoon 3 mainly but I’ve been dabbling with a lot of metroidvanias, and Yomawari because October and the 3rd game is releasing this month. I was playing Moonscars but frick me the game breaking bug is unreal, a damn shame because I was really enjoying it. Until they release the promised patch it’s back to Lily Enders for now.

    >excited
Yeah for Bayo 3. Was initially excited for Pokémon but I gotta admit what I’ve been seeing from them lately about Scarlet and Violet is kinda making me lose interest in it slowly.

Blasphemous, Moonscars, Lily Enders, Phoenotopia (surprisingly good), Hollow Knight (never got around to finishing it), The Messenger, Metroid Dread, Gato Roboto, The Mummy Demastered (great soundtrack), oh and the Castlevania Advance collection (though I haven’t been playing this one much). Dead Cells too though I know it’s not technically a metroidvania.

Never even played Splatoon to begin with, or even Bayonetta and Rabbids and really don't care either. Might pick up the new Pokémon. But I really want Binding of Isaac Afterbirth because it's pretty much endless runs. I know there's a game like it and it's $25 just can't remember the name for the life of me.

Monster Hunter Rise finally broke my launch model Switch. The fan stopped working altogether and would overheat and crash the system. Nintendo customer support didn't even pretend to fix it and instead sent me an entirely new one. They fixed my joycons I sent with it though so no more drift for a little bit anyways.
Final Fantasy XII was half off recently so I'm finally checking that out. Maximum comfy in handheld mode once you get some good gambits written.
Also tried out Heave Ho with some buds the other day. Fun stuff but I wish both analog sticks could be used to control each hand independently.
Otherwise most of the time I'm disappointed in the performance of even 2nd and 1st party games that have come to it and opt to play them on an emulator or just on the pc in general.

I bought the DLC but I'm well and away out of practice.

My time with the MonHun series has been one of ignoring it, then being fascinated yet intimidated by it, getting immersed in it, then falling out of it after a period. I tried doing one of the first quests they give you in the DLC, against the big crab and got washed effortlessly, even with my previous endgame armor.

I need to sit down and relearn how to play, but with all the other games in my backlog coupled with other interests, I can never find the time it feels. What was your weapon of choice?

        Anonymous

I've been playing MH since Tri on the Wii and I've really latched onto Insect Glaive and Hunting Horn as my weapons of choice.
As for getting bodied by the crab, yeah that's gonna happen. Master (G Rank) is always kind of a wall compared to High rank. Monsters move and attack much quicker now and openings are much smaller. Once you get used to it though any lesser rank just feels like they're in slow motion.. My best advice is abandon your old gear outright and treat it as a new "start" to the game. Even the very beginning Master rank armor is stronger than anything you can bring from High. So go fight the Izuchi or just build the alloy/chain mail set.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Don't laugh, but I started with World, but because I didn't really pay attention to what I was doing, I didn't get hooked with it. Then I bought Rise and really focused on what I was doing and it was a damn good time. Makes me want to go back to World and finish it and Iceborne.

It can just feel like the series is a little intimidating to get into. Even when I was playing more and I'd go into threads, people would be bringing up all sorts of different styles, builds, hunting factors, monster classes from games past and I'd be lost.

Me personally, I use the Gunlance even though it's shit, because it's a fricking gun lance. That, or Charge Blade/Dual Blades if I'm not trying to be a total shitter.

            Anonymous

Well to tell you the truth, Tri actually filtered me pretty hard when I first tried out the series. Didn't even get through half the village quests. I didn't actually try again until Tri Ultimate on WiiU. One day it just "clicked" and I've been a major fan since.
World was by and far my favorite push forward the series has done, especially after being stuck on handhelds for the last few games. I definitely recommend trying to push through the rest of the game if you're into it.
Rise, especially after Sunbreak is really fun too but in a different way. It might not be "traditional Monster Hunter" but I do find the wire bug system to be especially fun to get around the map with. I don't even bother with the Palamutes and usually just bring two cats and zip around like the ninja they want you to be.
Also don't sleep on the online play. MH is always more fun with more people. Especially if you're grinding for that last drop the Zinogre refuses to give you lmao.
Good luck and good hunting bro.

Nah the warranty was long since expired. It was $112 usd in total. It was cheaper to get it "fixed" than buy a new one. I might not have bothered but I really wanted to play Sunbreak on launch with my buds so I bit the bullet and got it back just in time.

My repairs would have costed $250. I just bought a fan and replaced it myself. I even replaced the thermal pads.

              Anonymous

I considered just replacing the fan myself, but it's behind every other component and I'm too smooth brained to work on electronics under the hood. For my costs, it was a flat service fee that Nintendo charged like 90 or 100 dollars and I think the extra went to UPS for shipping and handling.

I'm playing Romancing Saga 2. Can anyone tell me if there is anything like generational skips in RS3? I really like 2 but I wish I could do more during the generations. I feel like I can't do everything I want because the skip happens so often. I also grinded heavily at the beginning because I wanted to develop a bunch of weapons/armor and set up some things for the city. I read that makes the skips happen sooner. If that's true, I wish that wasn't the case. I can handle the tougher enemies but I don't like the skips happening so much. How am I supposed to get the guys to develop want gear I want if I don't fight? I think you have to fight a certain amount of battles for them to switch to something else.

I think next gen is going to use the chip that's most available. Nintendo does not want shortages like PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. They'll probably use the same Samsung OLED screen.

I fear that at that point, I will have to buy most switch physical games used on ebay, since there's no stock anymore.

First look at the library of games before deciding if you want it. Most Switch third party games are also on Steam and run better on PC. If you're okay with portability and don't want a Steam Deck then Switch is fine.

I won't buy third party stuff on switch, becaus I have a good pc. I had a steam deck here, but sent it back (too heavy when playing longer sessions, joysticks were weird for me, shitty ui/text scaling).

    Question

How good is Splatoon 3 campaign? I read it was pretty good and the best one

      Anonymous

It's still just a really well done tutorial. Simple level gimmicks, fairly predictable plot. I guess the little twist that Shiver, Frye and Big Man only moonlight as idols and their real job is bandits in the Splatlands and that the real big bad is Mr.Grizz from a, up to this point, wholly unrelated mode, where the major highlights.

Still, while I don't think anyone wants an overly complex, draw out, intricate story from Splatoon of all things, something a little more engaging than "Muh Great Zapfish was stolen, and even though it powers the whole city, you'll never see a difference with it here or gone" would be nice.

I haven’t finished it yet but the level design is really solid. I didn’t play the octo expansion though so I can’t compare it to that.

Playing comfy Deadly Premonition 2, but my bf keeps hogging the switch for his Pokémon shiny hunt so not much time for me to play.
I can't wait for Christmas and we'll get a new switch.

I'm getting myself an OLED model soon. Did anyone get the white model? Does the white color stay white or does the color turn yellow with age?

Where do you get your color cases from? I see lots of chinkshit and custom stuff on Etsy, but I'm not sure about the quality.

I play handheld only on my Switch and have been looking for the best way to save a couple bucks. Woud buying just the OLED console for $200 and selling my OG Switch console only for around $100 be a pain in the ass? I'm willing to pay $100 for the upgrade.

Better screen on the OLED presumably. It really is a noticeable difference.

you know what'd be fricking comfy
where the frick can i find a stand dock thing for the switch that also has usb ports on it and would let me play the switch on it and lets the switch act as a display but also charges the switch
i don';t know if i said it right but i hope someone gets what i mean
like a chargeable but still playable switch with no need for a monitor or anything

There was a first party stand that let you do that. Don't know if its in stock anymore. It has a USB-C port on the side you can plug the charger into.

        well shit
the thing is i wanted a stand thing that let me use the switch as the display itself, that would simultaneously charge it and also let me plug in multiple usb controllers instead of only using the joycons
        oh well

As long as its a USB hub and not a dock it should be fine. There are adjustable first party stands on Amazon but they're $30. There's also stands where the Switch is raised giving you access to the USB-C port. Its also not a good idea to charge your Switch while playing, even with first party power plugs. The USB hubs stands would still be useful with using a USB-C bluetooth dongle for headsets.

The jumpgate dock from skullnco is probably what you're looking for. I've had one for years, lets it charge on the dock stand without going into TV mode and has usb ports

I already beat Xenoblade 3, but I'm just grinding since the challenge modes are being release next week. Also, the new Hero as well.

I'm planning on getting Pokémon as well since I skip Sword and Shield. The Rabbid game also seem really fun so I might get that as a time waster.

Well at least these threads are nice still. Managed to get to VP 600 thanks to the Grizzco rotation.

It's probably a false flag from a Sony gay or something. All chads know that handheld is supremacy. Deck isn't competing with Switch. It's competing with PS5/Series X (because they share more games).

I'm looking forward to P5R and Bayo3 and preordered them. I still haven't finished SMT5 because the level scaling ruins the fun of coming up with strategies and killing everyone and everything with an underleveled team so I'll try to play it more on easy mode and beat it before I get my P5R copy.

Remember after Link's Awakening remake released with a primitive dungeon editor everyone was talking about a potential Zelda Maker? Three years passed and nothing. I wonder, if Nintendo is still holding on this idea.

        >a potential Zelda Maker
Can you even imagine the average quality of player made Zelda dungeons? I mean just look at Mario Maker 2 and how hard it is to find decent levels without the dedicated website that they used for the first game.

        Dungeon maker would be aweful.
Playing the puzzles of random people almost always leads to shit, look at the community portal 2 stuff.

Ordered a shitch so I could play splatoon 3 and smash online but god damn ebay shipping takes forever.
I didn't expect to ever buy a shitch and I definitely didn't expect a 2nd splatoon game on the switch. I had played 1 & 2 on sibling's consoles and loved the series but the hardware sucks.

    They're too expensive.
Nintendo are supposed to be the affordable one.
The Switch Lite is also too expensive and has features stripped out of it for no reason other than to punish you for daring to spend less.
There was no reason whatsoever to take the ability to broadcast to your television away from the Lite.
Let's hope Nintendo are a little less greedy and mean-spirited next time, they're supposed to be better than that. They're not fricking Sony.

      >The Switch Lite is also too expensive
How are they too expensive? You can often get a new one for about 150-160 €. That's less than you had to pay for a 3DS XL, at the same time in their life span.

Mario + rabbids is a cheap game to get, I'd recommend that for a more laid back experience.
The new one that's coming out has more of a "serious" story if that matters to you

        Meant to quote

The Switch is really comfy and has been helping me de-stress at night before I go to bed. I’ve been playing Earthbound and it’s been great. Are there any other games that are equally comfy? I’m not interested in Animal Crossing because there’s no story.

but I guess it works either way lol

    >What are you guys playing?
Mostly splatoon 3 and tetris 99, but I have nier automata and bayo 3 on the way as side games to beat and leave to gather dust.
    >What model do you own?
OLED. The model that should've launched. Will pre-order whatever comes next, it seems that a new switch (some would call it a switch pro, but that's just wrong) is inevitable.
    >Grinding away at Splatoon 3?
Yeah, I have to look into whether I should switch my weapon, because some comps are impossible to beat at S rank, and I should easily get an S+.
