Which means you can get dark horse victories like OG at TI8 or TS with TI10. The League model is doing some retarded stuff with regions with BO1 round robins with BO5 elimination. The same thing happens on the main stage.

In TI6, Wings Gaming was a team that decimated everyone else. Similar to team Spirit, every player in the team was a "no-nmae" player except they also didn’t have any old, experienced captains/coaches like Miposhka or Silent. They lost 1 game the entire main event IIRC, and that was only in the Grand Finals when they picked Pudge Techies. OG’s 2 TIs aside, there’s a legitimate case that they were the greatest team ever at TI in terms of just how far ahead they were vs. the rest of their competition. Think LGD but one step beyond and without the stupid Xiao8 drafts (y’ was drafting at the time).
What happened was after TI, there was some organization disputes. It was very, very messy. Like Wings owner not paying them out, money being used to fund a League of Legends team, etc. Don’t quote me on any of this because it’s been a very long time but the moral of the story is that it was just an awful time all around for the players.
So the players broke the contract and played under "Team Random". A super influential Chinese org called ACE didn’t like that and decided to essentially cancel them from participating in Chinese Dota and Wings eventually broke apart with y’ and Faith_Bian doing their own thing. ACE is no longer around but at the time, they dictated the entire Chinese Dota scene pretty much.
Anyway, long story short, every since TI6 a Chinese team has never won TI. The pattern of West-East-West-East hasn’t been repeated and it’s been West for 4 years now. The curse is essentially a reference to the fact that this is China’s karma for forcing the destruction of one of the greatest teams of all time.

Spirit purposely didn’t ban the Tiny/Lycan combo that PSG.LGD pioneered in this meta, and picked what they knew was countermeta. LGD massively underestimated Bane/Mag and paid the price.
The meta is also far more rewarding towards teams that easily find clean pick-offs rather than teamfights, i have no fucking idea why this was the case, but it was a constant theme amongst winning drafts and strategies. The "JUST TP LOL" moments from Spirit were even more indicative of it. I have a feeling that comeback gold/exp simply isn’t as valuable as it used to be in TI8-9, making trades from behind far less worthwhile. -

It was the only one that worked adequately, I was super skeptical about it in draft phase (does he have enough range, will he always be there when needed, will he be targeted first), but it worked better than I expected. But in the round where TS opened with Rubick ban, PSGs alarm clocks should have started blaring out immediately about Magnus.
