GuestStill find it funny that Miyamoto said there wouldn’t be another F-Zero as Nintendo only want to make unique games with innovative ideas, then announced NSMBU and NSMB2 a day later.

GuestMario Kart sold 39 Million copies and is the best selling racing game ever so why waste money propping up competition that’ll both underperform and hurt MK8D’s success.
Yeah, I want another one too, but buy other games.

N64 had four different racing games from Nintendo, the Switch can handle more than one. -

what a completely retarded argumentignoring the fact they’re not even the same genre you could use the same kind of absurd reasoning for a bunch of other games already released by nintendo: why keep making xenoblade games when they already have a rpg franchise that sells ten times the amount of copies? why make pokken and arms when smash bros exists? why create astral chain when they already have zelda and luigi’s mansion?
nintendo want to have a library of games that appeal to the largest audience possible, which is why they keep financing niche titles like metroid dread or bayonetta 3, a new f zero obviously wouldn’t be for the mario kart audience but would complement the switch library well

GuestThere aren’t enough kart racers where you don’t have the random item shit. The whole 30 racers and your health also working as boost does so much for me.
People don’t bring up GX to look cool because, outside of smash, fuck all know about f-zero. It gets brought up because there arent enough racers that pull off it’s combined elements so well. -

GuestI wonder if even 100,000 people would buy such game today. Racing games are not generally popular anymore like they used to be. I see plenty of bitching about arcade racers not coming out anymore, but the ones that do come out don’t seem to sell all that well besides maybe forza horizon, which isn’t really old school. Hasn’t it been because the decline in sales of these games across the late 6th, then 7th and 8th generations? I was reading the same complaints here 10 years ago. The fact is even in its heyday f zero was only moderately popular. None of you guys are buying playing Wreckfest, Cruisn World, BallisticNG, Burnout, Need for Speed, or basically anything that resembles the games you’re asking for. Nor have you for 10 years.

GuestThat and redout. Best damn thing to come out of italy since pizza. Great music and visuals, with more involved controls than your average antigrav racer. You need a titanium stomach to play it in VR however.

GuestYes, that’s it unironically, even within the series. Nintendo doensn’t like f zero and doesn’t want to make it. Nor did they in 2004! They farmed out GX AND the last two GBA games, which flopped, and then they cancelled the series probably because of that. When Miyamoto says in that interview they were disappointed with the quality of the ones they outsourced, it must have been the shitty GBA games.
They didn’t ask themselves, are the people who liked GX and wanted more GX going to buy this completely different GBA game? Are they the same audience at all? The first GBA one sold well. Do the poor sales of the similar sequel and threequel really indicate no interest in the main series? This was in 2004, the heyday of arcade racers on console, and when practically everyone on Nintendo had Mario Kart. Now they see there is no market for this KIND of game in general.
I like BallisticNG by the way. I’m a pretty mediocre player but I did get platinum on everything. Seeing myself on the top page of the leaderboard indicates just how few players there are. If you look at steam charts you’ll see that the Ganker group of ~16 people that plays on saturday accounts for like 50% of the active player base. If that game had came out in 2000 I bet it would have sold at least a million as well. Back then, it would have been cutting edge technology and culturally ‘in.’

GuestIdk, I always felt the controls were way too floaty, it’s really offputting. The music is alright though. Not f-zero/X level, but it fits well. The powerups have no place in it, f-zero’s life-draining boost is a better mechanic.

this argument has played out thousands of times on this site not to mention elsewhere on the internet. WHY in god’s name do fans of these two series hate each other so much? Why does game 1 have to be horrible and for retards just because you like game 2? Some people like both games. They clearly have very different design ideas. They are not supposed to be feel the same.

Guestunironically because wipeout and f zero are perfect examples of sony and nintendo’s conflicting design philosophies: wipeout is this slick, state of the art looking game with famous musicians in the ost while f zero (especially x) is some tacky pulp comics inspired universe with power metal blasting in the background, but what f zero lacks in presentation and production values it more than makes up for it with its gameplay that’s undeniably deeper and with a higher skill ceiling than wipeout’s

Guesti don’t know that much about the music but i was under the impression that the wipeout musicians are famous now because they were in the game.
BTW how are you measuring something like "skill ceiling" for a racing game? Have the fastest possible times been achieved in both series? Has anyone mastered BOTH to that degree just to give that ruling? It seems the time can always be improved.
I would still agree somewhat about the early 30 FPS wipeout games. While they could be challenging at times, once you do perfect your racing line, there’s little else you can do to get a boost until the wipeout 3 boosting. However the Wipeout HD had a pretty healthy multiplayer competitive scene and there are a lot more variables as to how you would calculate and execute your racing line, when to roll, how to use your energy, much more vertical tracks with pitching up and down becoming more important for more or the race. For anything like normal gameplay, I don’t think it’s lacking depth. I’d say GX is significantly deeper ONLY if you get into the speedrun glitches. While a good run with those is very impressive, it’s not fair to chalk that up to design philosophy. They’re glitches.
Cause they’re both the complete opposite of one another so naturally people will prefer one and dislike the others. Same thing as sim and arcadefags shitflinging each other. Wish there where more people that enjoy all but that’s just the way it is.
There are a lot of people who enjoy both types of racing games. Most of us who like sims grew up first playing mario kart or something. I think it’s just a few vocal autists making the impression that those fandoms are at odds, when really there’s huge overlap. I used to go to those threads and tell them why there are more sims being made these days: obviously, the simfags are buying the games.
The newly announced Wipeout Rush is like the same monkey paw situation as those F-Zero GBA games, although at least those were actual games. Want a new entry in the main series? Spend some money on our gacha battler! LMAO. If I didn’t laugh I would cry. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qmulgPZ2cg

no, they were very popular british electro/techno artists of the 90s and it was a big deal when it was announced they’d be part of wipeout’s ost>BTW how are you measuring something like "skill ceiling" for a racing game? F Zero just has more advanced techniques and a more unconventional style that’s harder to master, at some point the game straddles a line between a racing game and some sort of space flight simulation

GuestShit taste, anon. X and especially GX are brilliant to this day. The way they emphasize speed over dumb gimmicks over other shit like other non-traditional racing games, the combat system, music, difficulty, etc. still feel amazing to this day. I’m probably gonna play it again after seeing this thread actually.
That being said the "dude we need a new one lmao" I can’t relate to because GX was so perfect and a new one developed in-house by nu-tendo would probably be underwhelming in most regards.
