Yeah, the screentones are cool and all, but a fill tool is just dumb if it’s not pure black, you can just use the tone brush to fill out the background without needing that. The reason i use garyc at least is because of the restrictive toolset that makes it unique from most other drawsites because everyone’s on equal footing. All this newfangled shit just widens the gap between novices doodling for fun and 1 trillion hours in ms paint godlike tryhard drawfags.

You legitimately can get decently far using triangles. It helps define tapers. Obviously you do more detailed anatomy later on but it’s a very good and fast baseline.

I saved art that caught my eye, then tried to break them down into simple shapes, taking note of various proportions and lengths.
Healthy amounts of drawing, going back and reviewing my previous works, developing techniques that would let me get closer to what I liked about the art I saved, and just drawing. All that helps, and I’ve been at it for a few years now. Books will most certainly help, but funnily enough I haven’t actually read any books. I just drew what I liked and ultimately refined my techniques. -
