Last time I bought a special edition was in high school back in 2012. I was an autistic teen. It’s laughable to see these grown "men" take it to the next level and damn near worship this shit. The irony is I know a handful of people that I went to school with that are like this now, and they used to be the jock types who wouldn’t be caught dead playing vidya. Clown world shit that I ended up one of the half decently adjusted ones from my graduating class.

Ace Combat 5 and 6. I sold 6 since I didn’t like the game back then. AC 5 had some nice patches both in the bundle and as preorder bobuses. Regret it now. They aren’t really Special editions, so much just. I don’t really see them as special editions, but more like flight stick bundles. They are based off the Saitek shells, but the internals are proprietary hori apparently. The coast on my AC5 stick is now sticky as fuck now, rudder controls broke inside.
Amazon had a "special edition" of Armored Core 3 that had a shirt, action figure, and poster that I bought as well. Don’t know if it was official or not.

It’s more for immersion, really, but most people probably play it with the controls set up on a desk, making it weird as fuck and even less immersive. Rudder on throttle is also weird. I primarily play AC games with controller myself, but I use to occasionally swap out the wheel on my racing set up and play some ace combat with the HOTAS set up more correctly
A lot of the buttons and knob aren’t even used, but they are functional. The AC5 stick (known as the flight stick 2) eventually had a home brew usb driver released.

AC7 VR was amazing with a controller, I can only imagine how it would be with a HOTAS set up. Shame they never made more missions for it. I guess I’ll check out project wingman, but I only have a PSVR and I can never got it to work right on PC and only end up using it for porn.

I have PSVR too and I recently upgraded to an Index. Honestly if you like VR at all, I’d upgrade to a Quest 2

I got rid of my PS4, so only on the PS5 right now. Hopefully the PSVR 2 will come out decent, but we will see. Sony still hasn’t fully given us the PS5 they promised us yet. It’s almost a year and still no VRR or 8k OUTPUT (not that I can do 8k)

The PSVR 2 looks pretty cool. They’re getting index style controllers with finger tracking and they’re probably getting rid of the current tracking method with the lights and moving to a more modern VR tracking method

It’s the same as on PS4, really. I don’t notice any performance gains in any PSVR games. Most are optimized to run well even on base ps4 anyway. I hope they put a lot more thought into the PSVR2 compared to the PSVR and it’s compromise of using existing hardware form the PS3 era.

Whenever I buy physical copies, I usually try to get a special edition if it’s actually special (has a poster, steelbook, etc), not if it just has some dumb DLC code in the box.

I bought the Bioshock 2 one which was worth it, had a couple of posters, an art book, the first games OST on vinyl and a CD of the games OST. Other one I purchased was the ME3, which was pretty underwhelming, came in a steel case, had an N7 sew on patch, an art book and a postcard size lithograph of the Normandy.

My dad did, it was Halo 3’s special edition during that game’s midnight launch, and the big super special one, the one with the Master Chief helmet thing, the big box, the special behind the scenes DVD that had developer commentary over all the cutscenes in Halo 1 and 2. Funniest thing, I went there with the intention of just getting the regular edition because that version had a massive price hike in comparison to the regular version, and dad just decided to get the SE version on a whim for me, he was cool like that. Still have the helmet thing too.
