Give it a shot. It’s one of the best JRPGs.

Been on my backlog for ages. Which version is the better one? DC or GC?

Recently tried the GC one in emulation and it was dogshit. Probably the best version if you have the hardware though.

Gamecube, no contest. Not only does it have more content but also WAY less random encounters, which is one of the biggest flaws of the original.

You actually want to play the GC version (for the updates like lesser encounter or the new content) but with the OST of the DC version.
The ost of the GC version was really compressed.

Everyone is praised except Europeans (specifically they’re all reduced to Spaniards though.) Though yeah, it is interesting how the spot on the map that should be North America is just an empty void of NOTHING. Though I always theorized those small islands around the area are probably like the silver lands in that there’s small little populations there.

If you’re gonna play this then put in the code that removes random encounters. There’s so many mandatory battles anyways that you’ll never be under leveled during boss fights.

I did enjoy what I played, but everything got incredibly lengthy. I put it down at the Blue Moon area because ship battles took 20-30 minutes each and the mountain dungeon there was awful and apparently I wasn’t even halfway done at several hours in. Apparently I’m not the only one to stop here as its an extremely unpopular dungeon.

I’d play it again with an emulator that has a fast forward button. The cinematic way ship battles played out was cool as fuck with them turning before the next round of firing takes place, but they needed skip buttons after you’d seen it tons of times. Same thing for the regular battles. Shorter animations would have improved the game so much.

      >run from battles a lot because of how annoying the random encounters are
      >not only end up under-leveled in some situations but you’ll end up stuck with the Vyse the Coward title that’ll take ages of completed battles to remove
      >having that title also prevents you from unlocking a few more crew members which are needed in order to get the blacksmith who can forge you the strongest weapons

That was way back in my late teens I think, and I’ve since restarted the game because of the sheer amount of battles I’d needed to make up for it (iirc, I ran from over 200 on the first playthrough, which means I need to do thousands of battle to remove that title).

          Gamecube version has less encounters

That’s the version I was playing

this is the only JRPG with a world that felt real, like it existed beyond the events of the game’s story and characters, that other adventures were being had, that there was an actual history. It saddens me tremendously there will never be another JRPG like this again

What is wrong with the translation, exactly?
I didn’t find anything wrong with the writing at all. I would go so far as to say it was great. There were no moments where somebody says something that doesn’t seem to match the tone of the scene or their body/facial expressions. You’re not one of those people who thinks that just because it’s not authentic it must be awful, right?

Probably referencing the scene that was changed since the original implied Aika was about to get raped by Vigoro.
