Guestit’s really not
im currently replaying it and the only thing it has over gothic 2 is the unique setting and atmosphere
the world is really empty in gothic 1, many caves that have no loot in them whatsoever etc.
it also becomes very linear way too quickly and doesn’t introduce new side quests after you hit chapter 3
gothic 2 is just gothic 1 but better in pretty much every way-

GuestI do enjoy the empty caves though. It makes the game feel more realistic and less like a Video Game.
It’s weird going into a Cave expecting to get some fancy loot. Why would any of this shit be in a Cave anyway? You get some Cave Mushrooms.
Same with the secret Bandit camp in Gothic 1. There are no quests or anything, but if you go into the camp you’ll get attacked by them. What did you expect running into a bunch of outlaws?
My favorite moments in Gothic 1 were the quest where you had to give water to the rice field workers and the quest where you had to get all this random shit for the guy in the new camp mine.-

GuestFair enough, but the game is undeniably very lacking in replay value, as the other anon said.

GuestGothic 2 might be the best role play game ever in its own way.
But you HAVE TO play Gothic 1 first. No discussion. Both stories are completely connected. It would be like watching LotR2 without watching the first one.
Also, mage sucks. play melee as a beginner.

It doesn’t suck but if you have never played notr before you will have absolutely no fun playing mage -

Both Gothic 1 and 2 have no mana reg. You reg mana by eating herbs or drinking mana potions.-

Guest>eating herbs

Oh, so it’s a degenerate hippie game. No thanks. Any proper MP pool regenerates based on will or wisdom or intelligence or something similar. Not by using drugs. Drugs are the coward’s way of dealing with a world he doesn’t understand. -

GuestDamn, so many high level spells in G3 are pure shit. In my mage run I ended up using basic Fireball/Ice lance all the way through. Although it was fun to lure all the skellies from a tomb, jump on a rock and Fire Ring their asses.

GuestDemons in Gothic3 clearing entire towns? I don’t think so. Did you mean demons from G2? Those are really good.
-
October 16, 2021 at 4:36 pm #444894

GuestNo, I meant Gothic 3. It was one of the last spells I unlocked, and it helped me to kill the orcs controlling the towns.
It wasn’t a single demon per town, by the way. If the NPCs managed to kill it, I would summon another one, and so on.

GuestHands down the worst offender was the Slow Time spell. It slows down time, alright, but you are in the center and the spell affects you too. I swear to fucking god it’s like PB is trolling you for playing long enough to unlock late game spells.
From what I’ve heard at least one of the mods changed it so that you no longer have to cast it around yourself, but if you ask me no one should play G3 with mods. Every player who insists on playing the game should face that horrendous trainwreck in all of its broken, badly designed glory.

-

GuestWell that depends. Do you enjoy constant crashes? Because without the community patch you will see the Guru a lot.

GuestI don’t recall having many crashes or bugs with all the patches. There were some but not many. Nothing that can’t be fixed with frequent saving.

Seems like Windows or drivers issue to me.-

GuestNo idea. I use both amd GPU and cpu. I wish I knew what driver is the right one

GuestChanging drivers usually doesn’t solve the problem in my experience.
Sometimes community made patches like this can have .ini, .txt or some other file with settings including compatibility settings.
Also you could try running the game in compatibility mode with windows XP or 7, it helps sometimes.

GuestTo be fair, it still runs like shit even with the community patch. Drops to sub 20 fps(while normally running at 100+) all the time and has over a minute loading times. On a modern PC with an NVME SSD

GuestNo, from GOG. Doubt it matters though
I didn’t have crashes and the game was certainly playable, but with big framedrops from time to time. Sometimes it would drop to a near-slideshow, then return to normal after a few seconds

GuestIt does sound like a software issue but I’m not an expert. I don’t recally any framedrops in the Steam version (just an occasional crash here and there).

GuestIf you liked Gothic 1-2, risen is pure kino. Risen 2 is another direction but still very good rpg.

GuestThe first half of Risen 1 is up there with the best of Gothic 1 and 2, it’s basically the classic Gothic formula but slightly more modern
It kinda falls apart in the later half though because it turns into a repetitive dungeon crawler
Risen 2 is a pretty big departure from the other PB games, it doesn’t have one big open world but rather a bunch of small islands for example
It’s still an ok game with lots of charme, but it is the worst PB game imo -

GuestI played all Gothic games on Steam recently and it was almost instant. What’s your platform? Are you using any mods/patches? Is the issue persistent (does restarting G2 solves this problem)?
