I’m playing right now, nice shooting and fun. But I fucking hate the ww2 settings, overpowered vehicles and stupid matchmaking that put me only in the stupid enormous Japanese maps instead of the funny maps

The issue is how poorly balanced things get. Last game I played was BF4. BF4 had counter-measures against vehicles, but it also had plenty of players who only played in vehicles and were really good at clearing entire teams and ending up like 300:0 by round end. And that went for both IFVs and helicopters. The savants show up in a server and then the team they join just wins. Anti-vehicle measures weren’t impactful enough to meaningfully remove vehicles from the equation due to repair and countermeasures. You’d sometimes get one hit on them, but you’d need two. And so they’d just duck for a second, be back to full health, and then they’d resume wrecking. 100:0, 200:0, 300:0. It’s what caused me to burn my account and walk away.

I dedicated myself to running anti-air. And even when I finally got hits on the bouncing fuckers they’d just swing around out of LoS and then swing back and get back to slaughtering my entire time. Just a single helicopter cleansing an entire map of my entire team over and over and over again.

One helicopter shooting down all of my team’s jets and choppers while also wiping out the entire map. And it wasn’t a small map. That was what caused me to abandon the game when I was actually seriously into it. They were absolutely invulnerable and I didn’t have the tools that would’ve allowed me to deal with them. The only thing I could do is harass them very poorly. And all they needed to do was turn off the sound to not be affected by that.

As a note, one of the best parts of Rising Storm 2 in comparison to BF4 is how RS2 handled choppers. RS2 choppers can take chip and component damage from small arms fire. So you can cripple them and force them back to base. And if you’re sneaky you can chase them and wait for them to swing around. And if they fuck up the turn, you get a perfect window of opportunity to open up on the cockpit.

Also, you get the fun moments where you have an attack chopper coming right at you with the ground exploding in a path along either side toward you, and then you unload with an AK and get to watch the pilot spasm as the gunner keeps going only for the chopper to veer off and dive down, the rotor blades eating dirt and flying off as the body slams down and bounces to the side in a flaming wreck.

seems when I get in a vehicle, all the engineers come out and i attract every single player that has C4 just for me. Enemy vehicle? My sniper team cant be bothered to switch over, even after being murdered by the same tank/plane/copter. Our engis cant seem to figure out which rocket launcher to use for that vehicle, even though they could do it from a distance. Switch to engi yourself and spend a few rockets trying to deter a vehicle, now you need ammo. Support guy 1/2/3 probably dont even have ammo bags for whatever fucking reason

Haven’t played in two years, but I specifically remember being assault and soloing tanks left and right in that game. A single assault could literally take out any single tank on the field. Again, that was two years ago, things may have changed.

I said from the start that the beta was bad because there were a ton of issues BUT bringing back a bunch of class mechanics was a good thing and the gunplay was excellent. Over time they fixed a lot of those issues and now it’s a flawed but very good game and will be the last real Battlefield game.

As for public servers I think activity was about 50/50.

The thing that repeatedly drove me away from BF1 as how they did the specialist class thing. In BF4 you could sometimes find special weapons of questionable utility, but in BF1 they were giving out things like flamethrower troopers and melee specialists with rapid one hit kill weapons and power armor.

Here’s a lesson for any game devs. If you want specialist roles like that, they should be organic. Being able to breach the enemy line and wreak havoc doesn’t require some special power-up bullshit. That’s something skilled players come to be able to manage. The organic growth of a player’s ability into being able to do ludicrous power plays like that is an important part of these types of games.

The maps are the best in the franchise, some bf4 maps can be a too big at times. One of the forest ones is particularly bad.
