MH Rise demo works on Proton Experimental.

how come industry is even considering DX12 at this point?
is Microsoft bribing developers or something?
well, all right, I would understand it for developers that Microsoft bought or developers who make xbox exclusives
but everyone else should be able to see that Vulkan is clearly the superior option, and it will get even better as time passes
developers are not retarded, at least in most cases, are they?

Directx has been the standard for a while now and it’s easier to go to DX12 than to learn Vulkan from scratch

D3D12 is considerably easier to implement than Vulkan is. This is mainly because D3D12 is designed only for desktop and console platforms and only supports DXGI. Vulkan additionally supports mobile platforms (tiled GPU architectures), more fine-grained feature levels and a bunch of different windowing systems, which increases its complexity significantly.

even drawing a single triangle in vulkan for the first time can be a few days of work since you have to specify everything. I do hope it takes off though.

it’s really annoying how vulkan runs circles around directX and yet basically the only major publisher consistently putting out vulkan games is bethesda (and now that they’re purchased by MS… who knows if even that will continue.)
Vulkan is just all-around better regardless of OS, but it’s particularly annoying on linux when vulkan games have equal performance rather than taking a 5-10% hit like many DX games do.

DXVK does not handle DX12. It is done by vkd3d which is built into wine.

Lutris is pretty much my main tool for launching PC games, so yes. No success on installing it, and even if I do manually add it, the game won’t even boot and show up a window.

Weirdly enough, other (cracked) Steam games work fine for me.

Hopped on Red Orchestra 2 over the weekend. Player numbers were pretty low, but enough for a full game. Would be nice to have Rising Storm 2 or Insurgency Sandstorm multiplayer working on Linux. Now I’m back to playing the Battlefield games for a bit of FPS multiplayer. Feels strange, but oh well. Day of Infamy was fun for a while, but player count dropped pretty hard.

Yeah, but the game just came out and they have more important stuff to work on. Hence why I don’t expect them to give this much attention until closer to the steam deck’s launch.
I think it’d be silly of them to turn it on and not do any testing.

Anyone know why when I try to install some distros that there isnt an option to erase disk when creating the partition? I don’t want to do it manually and find out later that I didnt give it enough space

ideally you would create an LVM for sane partition resizing.

Eh, how was it perf-wise? I tried to play it on Loonix with Proton GE, but got a slideshow. It’s 50-60 FPS on Windoze, but it’s a shame I have to specifically switch to play it instead of being able to run a loop while IT’S COMPILING…

For some reasons, not limited to 60fps in GNU/Linux.

I got 100+ constantly, maybe drops to 90 when nearing a big planet.

My setup is Ryzen 5 3600X and RX 5700 XT.

          SolusOS with 21.2.2 mesa drivers.

I have a fairly ancient i5 5675C with GTX 970 (on blob), so I guess it just doesn’t have enough perf headroom for not!emulating it. Maybe it’s bad optimization or something (the game crashes a lot even on Windows for me), because for example Witcher 3 ran only about 10% worse in WINE than on Windows. I suppose you didn’t do any specific tweaks for it?

so with the DX translation thing. if a GPU supports Vulkan but not DX whatever it’ll run anyway (via vulkan)?

      • #398166
        Anonymous
        Guest

generally speaking both vulkan and DX track "shader model" specs. Your GPU will support a certain range of shader models. If a DX feature is used that can be translated to vulkan that your GPU supports, you can use it, but chances are if that feature isn’t available to you in DX it won’t be available to you in vulkan either because you would need your GPU to support that shader model feature.

The issue is the same no matter how I run it and the logs don’t show anything useful.
It opens and I can do some things in it but it fails to load some stuff (like images) and constantly gets stuck at various steps ("Looking up patches", "Initializing", "Syncing cloud saves"). I can start Far Cry 3 if I wait like 10 minutes for it to go through all the steps but e.g. Far Cry 5 will always fail at some point. It must be some sort of networking issue.
I tried fucking around with my network configuration (switching between NetworkManager, systemd-networkd, systemd-resolved, and setting different DNS servers) but nothing helped. Fuck this.

After watching infamous femboy camwhore and ntr smut connoisseur on bootleg Dailymotion, struggling with most brain dead "just werks" distro I decided to try it.

PoP OS is surprisingly not-terrible, had only 3 strange crushes so far and all of them non-gaming related (it might shipped with demons or ai-waifu who prevent you from posting on Ganker without thinking). Archive Manager that comes with it, also didn’t like extracting few random lewd games.
Default disk encryption is very nice – fast and easy.
Overall 8/10 for "just works", bloat distro, if you have some younger sibling or someone who isn’t Gankerenius, but likes gaming, it could be perfect for them.
