The dialogue was cheesy and insufferable. And it apparently does not get better in Hajimari. I still feel the urge to play CS4 just to finish it but I know I’m not gonna enjoy it. At least I still have fond memories of Sky.

ive only played the cold steel series. almost done with 4, ive about had enough of this style, dont think i can deal with similar gameplay but 2d graphics. are the earlier games significantly better than cold steel

Playing cold steel now and holy shit is this game slow to get interesting. At least sky fc had something of a plot to speak of and was enjoyable on its own but it feels like cold steel only exists to provide context for the sequels. Very boring so far

Estelle is indeed cute and a good reason to play the game. However her games are too long and require too much grinding. If I walk through a map and stop to kill every single enemy on the way shouldn’t that be enough exp to fight the final boss? That also includes every time I backtracked to look for new dialogue, items etc. I kill them all again. Even after being that thorough when you get near the end of the game you just hit a wall and you can’t progress anymore unless you mindlessly grind for a few hours. Yes I know that is kind of a staple of the genre but it really shouldn’t be. And that is why Estelle is not cute and her game is dumb.

You are a liar. It is a numbers game. The math doesn’t lie. Add up all the exp you get from every enemy. By the time you reach the final area you aren’t going to be able to reliably survive encounters. It might be possible if you spam items but I still doubt it.

As long as you beat every enemy in every area ONCE (i.e. not grinding, just clearing each encounter one time) and keep your gear+quartz up to scratch there should only be like one or two moments per game that present a real problem

wtf are you doingOnce you go down the elevator in the final area the enemies become dramatically more tanky and hit much harder. It has been years since I played the game but I distinctly remember hitting a wall there. It wasn’t only exp either. If you want the best quartz you need to farm for money or materials to craft them because you don’t get enough passively through the game. Maybe it was because I chose to buy everything else in the game, upgraded armor/weapons at every opportunity etc. but you are definitely short on power for the final area. I can almost guarantee the people saying that you don’t need to grind skipped over buying a bunch of stuff and/or Just fought one enemy down there and ran past the rest. If you didn’t grind not only are you going to not have a good quartz loadout on each character but you will not be able to reliably kill every enemy down there. It is such a drastic jump from the rest of the game. That is why I remember it.

Forgetting any other elements of the franchise you dislike, how is the translation work for the series? I don’t need every single sentence to be 1:1 but unnecessarily heavy editing and alterations for no good reason in a work primarily marketed and sold around it’s story and characters across years and nations sounds like I’d find it disappointing more than anything else
