It’s hard to get excited for yet another basic anime protagonist wielding a sword and magic at this point. The archetype is so played out. Now, if they added Robo, or Lucca, or heck, even Frog or Magus, that’d at least stand out from the crowd of pretty boys.-

The main issue is too many fucking Pokémon and especially Fire Emblem characters. Besides that, I think Jrpgs are well represented. Smash doesn’t need shillmons and clones.

Not to nitpick but I really wouldn’t include FE as an ‘RPG’. It’s a tactics RPG.
I also wouldn’t include ‘Pokemon’ in the RPG section. It’s an RPG but it also just transcends that. It’s fucking Pokemon, and Pikachu is in the game because of the anime and Pokemania, not because of any gameplay.

It’s a subgenre of RPG, just like 2d fighting games are a subgenre of fighting games.

xenoblade only has three reps and one of them is just a faster weaker version of the other, it can and should stay since it’s one of the few non-ports on switch
Fire Emblem is over bloated thanks to bringing every character back and out of the 8, 3 are from Awakening rather than widely representing the series, though two of those 3 are clones.
I’d say ideally, cut Robin, Ike, and Corrin and keep the rest. since three of the ones left are clones of Marth that wouldn’t take many resources and Byleth is from the highest selling entry so far, this would bring FE down to 5 fighters while still representing the more popular titles

I’m so glad they added classic JRPG characters like Inkling, Daisy, Ridley, Simon, Richter, Dark Samus, King K. Rool, Isabelle, Ken, Piranha Plant, Banjo & Kazooie, Terry, Min Min, Steve, and Kazuya.
