GuestProbably same engine they’ve been using since that Castlevania game, and they kept some around when testing shit.
[…]
Still ‘eh. Main complaint with the game was how parrying was mandatory for quicker kills, but enemies took their sweet fucking time doing a counterable attack. Thank fuck Dread made enemies in general far more aggressive.

Guest>samus returns thread
Good. I just finished replaying this game and I feel like I’m going crazy. There IS a chozo stalking Samus in this game right? One that appears like twice in the background. I remember seeing it myself, I remember people talking about it but I can’t find anything. When I saw Raven Beak in the Dread trailer I was sure that was him but I can’t find shit about it.
Is this a case of false memories?-
October 17, 2021 at 9:36 pm #473308

GuestThere are no Chozos in SR. Only digger machines

GuestWell fuck.
>is there an HD texture pack
No but you can at least bump up the resolution.>Does the bottom screen interfere a lot if I’m using a controller?
You can only change between your current beam, ice beam and grapple as well as between normal and super missiles through the touch screen. You can however map some keys to parts of the screen.-

Yes, you’re right. There is something following you throughout the game.

If you’re not already, you’d better get used to the fact that the brain is a terrible record-keeping device and distorts its own impression of past experiences all the time. All the time.
Or you can continue insisting that you know what you saw and evidence of the thing has been scrubbed from history. Your choice.

GuestIts ugly
Repetitive
Unoriginal
Mediocre
StuntedAt least dread had slightly better graphics and a new story with new mechanics and QoL. Samus Returns was just a shitty proof of concept to earn Nintendo’s goodwill. If it weren’t then it would have been a one off on switch instead. I would want it ported to switch using dread’s improvements and higher graphic quality at least. That could very well happen. Metroid is FE now after Dread salea exploded.

GuestI still like it.
One thing I think was cool in SR was how you can rest your arm cannon against edges you are hanging from at 45 degrees. It makes the physical movement feel a little more real when you have details like that. This was removed in Dread and now you will annoyingly shoot against the wall you are hanging from.

GuestSaying Metroid SR is bad is like saying Dark Souls 2 is bad.
It’s not the best metroid in the 2d series but it isn’t as bad as most Metroid-like games.
It’s serviceable and most people are just sour to it because AM2R is just better than it and Nintendo DMCA’d it.-

GuestFinished my first playthrough yesterday, game was much better than expected, they nailed perfect how to make the whole game from start to end with a good amount of challenge without feeling impossible to beat. My only complains are how overused feels the counter move is and the whole giant robot fight, fuck that one in particular!

Guest30fps despite looking like shit, worth noting. There is a nice effort in the 3D backgrounds but it all goes to shit with how muddy the textures are, Samus herself looks like a bootleg figure whenever the camera zooms in like on recharge stations and some of the metroid parry sequences.

GuestThe controls are fucking great, metroid has always been the most complex controlling sidescroller, back to the SNES days. How many other 16-bit sidescrollers gave you dedicated shoulder buttons for your 45 degree shots?
Also stop playing it in Citra, the input lag is much lower on a real 3DS.

GuestIt’s still kinda "eh" but that’s a fault of Metroid II’s design more than it is M:SR’s iteration of it. Dread takes every new thing that it did and manages to make it work, so it’s proof that the concepts are fine, it’s just hampered by the inherent design issues with the game it’s based off of.

Guestwhy would another game bump up it’s quality? I honest to god do not know how any believes anything gets better or worse via some other outside party/game. like holy shit, base a game off of the game, that’s it. i dont’ give a shit about who made it, i dont’ give a shit about if it has dlc, or its got some shitty controversial dilemma surrounding it, i play a game, i tell you how i feel about the game, i dont’ compare it to anything else. If i like it, i like it, if i hate it, i hate it, simple as.
