This console has no games, until you remember all the games it has, and you just keep remembering more and more and more and it never fucking ends, and then you realize you probably don’t know even 30% of the really good games in the system.

It’s kinda weird considering how short its lifetime was, but I guess the strength of 2d games on a small screen is you don’t have to waste years of development time polishing graphics and troubleshooting your physics engine.

Yeah. I played it in an emulator and it’s basically like Donkey Kong ’94 which is unironically way better.

WarioWare shouldn’t be that low, and WarioWare Twisted is missing. And since you put a Japanese game on there, you might as well include Rhythm Tengoku (very nice) and Mother 3 (not worth the hype but still a must-play)

damn this is reminding me how much fun I had with my DS. I think it had a great library, and looking back I thought the two screen and stylus shtick actually worked out well a lot of the time. The guitar hero port, metroid hunters, AC wild world all utilized the system really well.

Order a Chinese one with a glass screen lens, IPS screen and rechargeable battery mod. When you get it, claim it doesn’t work and send back your current regular GBA.

I would also put the 360 in that category. All everyone says is "Halo, Gears, and Forza" until you remember there was an exclusive Ace Combat game, an exclusive Katamari game, Tenchu Z, all the shmups, tons of games through XBLA that weren’t ported anywhere else, and there’s so much more. The OG Xbox and 360 libraries are greatly underappreciated.

It had two good mario games, the best zeldas that were inspired by a quite good nintendo made one, a bunch of RPGs, the only good pokemon TGC game, Megaman V (the rest is shit remakes, but V is pretty good), X, Kirby tilt & tumble..

It’s hard to describe, but I almost feel like the GBA was the closest Nintendo came to having a "Playstation": a relatively easy-to-develop-for system, decently strong for its field, affordable, and not inherently saddled with a hardware or interactivity gimmick. Shame that it’s like the only major Nintendo system since Jumpman/Mario’s inception that never introduced a new mainline platformer/collectathon Mario game. Early or middle GBA-era Nintendo would’ve probably made something absolutely glorious in this vein.

You can just use C on it, everything is directly accessible for the C code by hardware design, and everything is clean and easy to understand.
Even if you literally don’t use any API and access the hardware directly with memory pointers, it’s easier than developing for many Oses etc..

What made the Game Boy Advance great is it had full backwards compatibility with the Game Boy/Color library, which added to the games it already had. There were a few great games in the library but most tended to be in the first year of its life or at the very end.
