GuestHasn’t its SFM scene had a bit of a resurgence lately with S2FM releasing? At least, there are a few people out there posting stuff somewhat regularly now.

GuestI’m not talking financially, I just mean as a game. Did you guys think it was overrated/not polished or good enough to be a Half-Life title?

GuestIt was a glorified demo that tried to justify buying overpriced hardware and gently caressed with Half Life 2 continuity…it was a mess.

Then say this instead: Was Half-Life: Alyx a disappointment?-

GuestFar from it. It exceeded valves expectations. The Valve index sold out much to their surprise. given that VR isnt mainstream- yet, it basically succeeded.

GuestNah, I think it was great. My only fault with it is that it’s another half life game with a shitty weapon selection. No two hand rifles or special energy weapons. Just a pistol, shotgun, and smg. Nades don’t count and we didn’t even get a melee weapon.

GuestOh wow amazing. How about you come back to me when I have that shit from the start.
Valve needs to just stop hiring windowlickers as game testers. Like god damn some games don’t need to be playable by sub 60 iq man-apes that couldn’t light a match if you gently caressing showed them.

GuestEven if the game doesnt make gains by the end of the year, it will keep selling for at least 10 years as a must buy for VR for almost full price. so no, it wasnt a failure

Guestgame desperately needed melee. Valve was cucks and thought people would hurt themselves or something
Boneworks proved melee can be done. Its actually really fun in that game

GuestValve removed melee because people thought they were playing as Gordan swinging a crowbar around and they didn’t want people thinking that.

Guest>we had to remove [feature] because our playtesters couldn’t figure out [basic concept]
Why is it such a recurring thing with Valve? Where the hell do they find their playtesters?

GuestEven if that’s the case, it’s their fault for not coming up with a different solution while still retaining melee, just as it’s their fault for not giving players the option of playing through the bigger winding cave system in EP2 that they cut out and made worse for everyone else just because a playtester was a retard.

GuestHow do I become a playtester, from the sounds of things they have pretty low standards for entry.

GuestI feel like they were outdone in gameplay and replayability by Boneworks and Pavlov, the gun mechanics are so much more diverse and interesting in those games. The biggest highlight for me in Alyx was being able to interact with every object semi-authentically. Scavenging was interesting for the first few hours I guess.

GuestIf you judge "butthurt" by how much people aren’t desperately defending something to justify their purchase of the required hardware to play it, then yeah it generated a lot of "butthurt"

Guestwhat do you do in this game when you run out of ammo? just die? really frikkin stupid. The combat isnt difficult in the slightest its just artificial difficulty of not having enough ammo.. thanks to no melee system

How? yes the soldiers are often sponge bullets but missing with a pistol is an achievement, unless you have butter fingers.

Guest>>retconned the ending of EP2, killing any interest in the franchise
you didnt play hl2 episode 1 either. You know that gently caressing everyone and their mother played a valve DRMbox, right? You just have to saunter over your local arcade/gamerpub shithole and tolerate the blue haired zoomies sipping orc beer and playing fortnite in the background and you could play it for hours for an euro or less. A literal gently caressing gypsy could afford to play it.
Pcbros are just the gently caressing worst. Always just breaking down in NO NO NO NO NOOOOOO flat denial.

GuestFucking everyone and their mother played it, pcbro. Thats why the DRMboxes arent selling, people can easily try before they buy.
This. Anyone who bought it without trying must be the most psychologically damaged motherfuckers ever, swimming in post-rationalization no shit they are defending their shit to the death. Its like the people who got bamboozled into buying random shit like an atari in the nintendo-sega genesis era.

GuestIt was a major success and is even extremely overrated, definitely not a half-life 3, but a must buy if you have vr. By far the best game on the platform.

GuestI’m about 3 hours in and I’m enjoying it. It feels like Half-Life, which shocked me since I expected it to be modernized in the worst ways imaginable with regenerating health and stuff like that. Though I do wish the characters would shut up, this game isn’t as funny as its writers think it is. If only there was some mute protagonist they could’ve used instead of Alyx…
But unless something really special happens between now and the end it’s not the VR killer app everyone is saying it is. It’s one of the best VR games out there but VR still has no killer app and VR will remain niche until it does. So in regards to them trying to make a VR killer app they failed, but they did succeed in making a Half-Life sequel when it comes to Alyx’s gameplay.-

GuestI’m still waiting for episode 3 so I can play the first two and enjoy the trilogy of episodes back to back. Until then I can’t play any "newer" half life games since I dont want to ruin the episode 3 experience
