I stopped caring about half life when the sfm scene for it died

Hasn’t its SFM scene had a bit of a resurgence lately with S2FM releasing? At least, there are a few people out there posting stuff somewhat regularly now.

Not financially which is the only thing that matters to valve.

Far from it. It exceeded valves expectations. The Valve index sold out much to their surprise. given that VR isnt mainstream- yet, it basically succeeded.

Nah, I think it was great. My only fault with it is that it’s another half life game with a shitty weapon selection. No two hand rifles or special energy weapons. Just a pistol, shotgun, and smg. Nades don’t count and we didn’t even get a melee weapon.

Even if the game doesnt make gains by the end of the year, it will keep selling for at least 10 years as a must buy for VR for almost full price. so no, it wasnt a failure

game desperately needed melee. Valve was cucks and thought people would hurt themselves or something

Boneworks proved melee can be done. Its actually really fun in that game

Valve removed melee because people thought they were playing as Gordan swinging a crowbar around and they didn’t want people thinking that.

            >we had to remove [feature] because our playtesters couldn’t figure out [basic concept]
Why is it such a recurring thing with Valve? Where the hell do they find their playtesters?

Even if that’s the case, it’s their fault for not coming up with a different solution while still retaining melee, just as it’s their fault for not giving players the option of playing through the bigger winding cave system in EP2 that they cut out and made worse for everyone else just because a playtester was a retard.

How do I become a playtester, from the sounds of things they have pretty low standards for entry.

I feel like they were outdone in gameplay and replayability by Boneworks and Pavlov, the gun mechanics are so much more diverse and interesting in those games. The biggest highlight for me in Alyx was being able to interact with every object semi-authentically. Scavenging was interesting for the first few hours I guess.

Not at all, but it wasn’t Half Life 3.

If you judge the success by the age old method of how much butthurt it generated on Ganker, then it was a tremendous success.

If you judge "butthurt" by how much people aren’t desperately defending something to justify their purchase of the required hardware to play it, then yeah it generated a lot of "butthurt"

what do you do in this game when you run out of ammo? just die? really frikkin stupid. The combat isnt difficult in the slightest its just artificial difficulty of not having enough ammo.. thanks to no melee system

        >running out of ammo
How? yes the soldiers are often sponge bullets but missing with a pistol is an achievement, unless you have butter fingers.

Absolutely not. If you have VR and played, you’d know.

      >retconned the ending of EP2, killing any interest in the franchise
      >didnt move enough units, failed to break evil
      >the platform it was supposed to be the killer app for is essentially dead and failed to garner any serious interest
      >absolutely nothing new or interesting in it story, writing or gameplaywise, trying to play as safe as humanly possible

Yeah no shit its a failure on every possible level.

It’s a good game but also a pretty big disappointment after all those years of waiting.

It was a major success and is even extremely overrated, definitely not a half-life 3, but a must buy if you have vr. By far the best game on the platform.

people with VR will say its the best thing ever regardless because of the buyers remorse. Its pointless to ask

I’m about 3 hours in and I’m enjoying it. It feels like Half-Life, which shocked me since I expected it to be modernized in the worst ways imaginable with regenerating health and stuff like that. Though I do wish the characters would shut up, this game isn’t as funny as its writers think it is. If only there was some mute protagonist they could’ve used instead of Alyx…
But unless something really special happens between now and the end it’s not the VR killer app everyone is saying it is. It’s one of the best VR games out there but VR still has no killer app and VR will remain niche until it does. So in regards to them trying to make a VR killer app they failed, but they did succeed in making a Half-Life sequel when it comes to Alyx’s gameplay.

Of course, who could forget the main character of the franchise, Adrian Shephard

No but it remains the only real game on VR. VR itself is the failure.

I don’t care. Where’s the next Dota 2 hero and 7.28 patch, the open beta of Artifact 2, and Season 2 of Dota Underlords?

I’m still waiting for episode 3 so I can play the first two and enjoy the trilogy of episodes back to back. Until then I can’t play any "newer" half life games since I dont want to ruin the episode 3 experience
