What is the most recent game that brought pure unadultered fun to you?

Honestly TF2 on a skial server on Harvest. I frequently forget that populated servers without bots are just super fun.

As an adult, I find myself having fun in more abstract, self-contained ways. For example, over the past few days I’ve been doing stuff like somewhat converting Wizard of Oz characters into D&D characters, taking FFXI jobs and trying to rescale them so early levels aren’t boring and there isn’t 50 fearures at end-game and every job is viable to sub, and thinking about class balance in RPGs (tabletop and vidya) and how I’d go about making certain classes feel more interesting to me and hopeful others (as the years go by, I’m realizing no one else is making the changes I’d like to see, and wondering if I should stop being a NEET and do them myself).

A-Train All Aboard Tourism. The beginning was pure pain because of the total lack of any tutorial in English. I lost sleep trying to figure out how things worked based on trial and error in a game that has a very complex simulation.
After overcoming the arduous task of learning the basics of the game, which took several dozen hours, the result was the most fun sim I have ever played. It is unbelievable how a game where you have to worry about taxes, paying dividends, depreciation of your assets, building complex schedules for trains, etc, can be so much fun. It’s one of the most addictive games I’ve ever played, too. I would say that on an addiction level it is on par with Factorio. And on a simulation level, it’s much more interesting than Sim City or Cities Skylines. -

I played NMH2 right after 1 and it was such a let down, I didn’t realize how special it was until I reflected on it while playing 2. Honestly Suda’s magnum opus, I still need to play Travis Strikes Again.

Same, i played 2 after it and so much charm was gone, no open world, no fun minigames, no unique enemies for each boss area, small zones for the bosses, money is useless, only 4 beam katanas.

I have had an issue with trying to make any vidya look and play as good as possible by installing mods and changing textures and shaders. What would happen was that I would get to far from the source game and have all these disjointed mods ruin the experience. I decided to just play games as they are and stop trying to make "improvements" in my own eyes. So I finally gave the stalker games a go and have been enjoying them greatly. I beat soc, cop, and am now playing cs. soc is by far the most janky but the themes and how easy it is to die makes the game very fun.
