What the fuck is with all these complaints about this game being "too hard"? It’s easier than fucking Super Metroid, and WAY easier than Fusion.

In Super it was actually realistic that you might run out of health and die while exploring if you got careless, whereas Dread showers you with health pickups nonstop. The bosses in Super are roughly on par with those in Dread in terms of difficulty, with the added inconvenience of not having checkpoints right outside the door. Then you have Fusion’s bosses, which make everything in Dread look like a joke because they hit much harder relative to your life pool, take way longer to kill, and in Fusion you don’t have a million different tools to effortlessly escape danger like you do in Dread.

Have the people who find this game hard actually played the other games in the series?

I find it weird, too. Strikes me as astroturfing more than anything genuine. The enemy attack telegraphing is super obvious. Once you see the pattern once, it’s over.

        >died more to emmis
That’s not really "dying" though, because you get an instant game over and you never have to go more than 20 seconds in an EMMI area at once, so you lose no progress.

I died more in this game than in Super but yeah, the generous pickups and checkpoints kept it from feeling harder. Just a game with some challenging EMMI encounters and bosses. Honestly though I don’t think any non-attention-seekers are actually complaining about it being hard. People bring up the difficulty sure but it’s usually in the "oh ok, I gotta pay attention to these bosses, cool" kind of way

Fuck off. I remember the first time I played Super Metroid and it wasn’t nearly as difficult as Dread is. In Super Metroid you will not die more than once or twice fighting a boss for the first time because they literally only have a few attack to learn and avoid. In Dread not only do they have many attacks but they hit hard too and so it can take a while to figure out the perfect strategy to fight them.

No, you’re retarded for finding Dread Kraid challenging in any way, when all his attacks are extremely well telegraphed and completely predictable, meaning that it should never take a person with a functioning brain more than two attempts to kill him.

So your most recent upgrade was the Spider Magnet?
If so you need to locate the boss that gives the stealth cloak, the path to progression immediately after EMMI 2 is a room with magnet walls to climb and a wall at the top of the room in the middle that can be shot to be broken

I’ve played every game in the franchise multiple times on normal/hard modes and Dread is easily the hardest of them, enemies do far more damage in Dread generally, especially with the bosses which can deal up to 4 E-tanks on HM, before the 3DS games, you could more or less heavily facetank through a good chunk of 2D Metroid games and be fine

the most efficient way to take out the black orbs is to shoot 4 missiles at them

start a speed boost from the bottom left, jump, then jump and wall jump, slide to break the blocks and keep going until the left side where you can store the charge, then go back and bomb the blocks and then shinespark up, much easier method

In Metroid dread you will take over a tank worth of damage per hit with gravity suit from regular enemies.
In Super Metroid you will take less than 50 damage with gravity from Ridley.
Enemies do a LOT more damage in Dread and you can’t just damage race bosses to death anymore.
This is a good thing since it means you need to learn how to dodge, but people going in with Super Metroid expectations are going to get walled until they learn it doesn’t work that way anymore.

      • #458175
        Anonymous
        Guest

Yes but in Dread you have an instant teleport move, a counter and the ability to freely aim at any angle, making it far easier to kill every enemy before they ever get close. The enemies in Dread may do more damage per hit, but you don’t end up in situations where you’re swarmed by enemies because you couldn’t hit them before they got close and you have no easy way to get away from them, and so they hit you over and over again, which is what happens in Super. You almost never take just one hit of damage in Super, you take several.

        • #458182
          Anonymous
          Guest

You don’t end up in those situations in Super either since you get tons of I frames when you get touched by an enemy. Dread doesn’t give you mercy invuln btw so enjoy losing several tanks if an enemy backs you into the corner.
I’m honestly shocked that anyone thinks Super is difficult for any reason besides getting lost.
I don’t think I ever died after getting Varia so I’m curious as to which parts of the game were killing you. There aren’t swarms of enemies in Super because the game can’t handle that much action. Were you just ignoring wave beam or something?

          • #458184
            Anonymous
            Guest

            >if an enemy backs you into the corner
This can literally never happen because you can just mash the melee button and the enemy will be slapped away.

            • #458188
              Anonymous
              Guest

That doesn’t magically mean the enemy doesn’t do damage.
That it can be dodged does not mean that a player is going to know enough to do that. Furthermore since you die so quickly that means a player is unlikely to have time to learn through experimentation before dying.
This is why Dread is difficult and Super is not. In Super you have dozens of second chances. In Dread you get 3.

I died more in Super Metroid, but I was 7 years old when that game came out, and 90% of those deaths were crocomire.

Dreads super fucking generous with Checkpoints, but the Samus is such a glass canon and you die too fast to learn the enemies patterns unless you scrounge up every energy tank available.

Playing them side by side I think Super can be harder. Bosses don’t always have attacks you can dodge 100% reliably. Plus Super doesn’t hand you full health and missiles all of the time. I think you could argue that these are different approaches to difficulty and not just an absolute scale, but still.

Game felt nice to play and every death seemed fair, since gameplay encourages you to find enemy patterns. The overworld is not overwhelming with teleports in crucial points of the map. Final boss was worth it’s difficulty free aiming is crucial and you’ve got to counter. Favorite game playing this year

Counter/parrying is shit and needs to go, QTE’s have no place in Metroid and it reduces all the enemies into "wait and counter when it attacks so it dies in 1 hit" since if you don’t a lot of the enemies, especially late game, take ridiculous amounts of damage to kill.

Nah it’s shit game design. Imagine if you took Dark Souls and made it so every enemy had triple health unless you parry them which kills them instantly. It’s reductive, repetitive, unengaging and slows the game down. None of the other Metroid games pulled this shit because they were designed by people who knew what they were doing.
