I don’t understand how that’s supposed to be comfy. Yeah I love lying in bed sweating my ass off and breaking my neck against the headrest. Fuck that, I’ll play comfortably at my computer desk.

I love the guild storylines. The main storyline is good too. It’s only flaw is that Morrowind surpasses it.

I know a guy who only completed Oblivion’s main quest and then uninstalled the game. When I asked him why he told me "well I completed the game, what else was I supposed to do". I know TES games are the baby’s first RPG but this left me speechless

I honestly can’t remember the storyline of either, and I completed Oblivion’s main quest 3 times already. "You are the chosen one" is the laziest possible story, and fucking Skyrim uses it not only for the main story but for the guild storylines also.

I just couldn’t stand the dungeons. The quests were great but every single dungeon save for a couple unique ones were the exact same layout over and over and over again copy pasted. Completely ruined the game for me. At least Skyrim’s endless draugr caves had slightly different maps for each dungeon.

Maybe, but this has a dedicated team and they’ve done some serious work already. So I think it’s more a question of when, not if, they complete it.

I was watching the dev diary the other week, check out the remade Leyawiin 57 minutes in. Looks sick.

Really wasn’t though. Oblivion was the worst in the franchise. They took entire sections of dungeons and literally copypasted them hundreds of times. In Skyrim they learned their fucking lesson and used smaller god damn copypasted chunks so dungeons weren’t all literally

I played it more recently and it still held up. I thought I’d just try it out for a bit for laughs and then delete it again, but I ended up playing it for 200+ hours. Did the guild questlines, did the arena, just fucked off and explored stuff, closed a bunch of Oblivion gates, etc. There are not that many 15 year old games that hold up like that.

Oblivion set a new standard for open world games by making it so that all of the shit to do in the game is easily accessible so that players don’t have to work too hard to find activities and making said shit to do not feel like a slog. Yeah you could just have players run into a goblin cave and kill everything, or you could have it set up so that they first see a bunch of goblins fighting each other with a poor farm girl begging for help because her family is getting caught in the middle of the conflict, thus setting up proper motivation for spelunking into said cave and wrapping the experience together with something that will keep it memorable.

Gaming’s defining moment in the 21st century was the release of Halo 3. There is absolutely no arguing with this, whether you like Halo or not. For better or for worse. Honorary mentions go to Grand Theft Auto 3, Skyrim, WoW and CoD: Modern Warfare 2.

Halo 2 was more significant than Halo 3. On release, people meme’d about how Halo 3 was just Halo 2 HD.

But Oblivion is still playable today and Morrowind is tougher to get past in terms of how it has aged.

The biggest barrier in Morrowind to me is the movement speed. It’s unreasonably slow.

I honestly prefer skyrim instead of oblivion and morrowind. It’s literally a better game.

Morrowind and Skyrim are so fundamentally different as to not be comparable. Skyrim, on the other hand, is very similar to Oblivion but both simplified and streamlined. The more complex RPG stuff in Oblivion is honestly out of place and Skyrim sands it off to turn the game into a somewhat repetitive dungeon/world exploration game instead of pretending to be a "serious RPG".

Oblivion has satisfying and good storylines, particularly in the guild questlines. The main quest is not bad either. Skyrim just sucks. You do like 5 tasks for this group and they declare you their king and leader. And then you fuck off and never see them again, kek. It makes no sense and it happens like 5 times.

No it didn’t. The smoothbrain rpg mechanics made the whole game boring. Oblivion made trying new things actually rewarding by directly leveling them and making your character more capable. The doofy skill tree system made trying new things useless because it just made getting good at anything take forever and or lock you out of options.

Sometimes you play the game. Sometimes the game plays you.

Interestingly, that glass mace is the game’s only non-enchanted leveled item. At level ~17, it does the damage of a daedric mace, while being as light as a glass mace.

Literally the only thing anybody, anywhere, EVER gave a shit about was the Dark Brotherhood questline. That’s IT. That’s what people mean when they say
          >Oblivion had better quests
It was exclusively the Dark Brotherhood and nothing else.

And you know what it was honestly not that great because it had no replay value after the WHAT A TWEEST ending.

But I agree, I feel like by even picking the head up and throwing it on the feound to make him squirm, they would have at least made the other members notice his acting strange.

Traveling along the main roads is surprisingly fun atmospheric. I always try to travel to each main city manually before I use fast travel to see the sights, discover all the locations along the paths, gather ingredients, etc. There’s just something about it that makes it a must in all my playthroughs.

I just wish the dungeoneering was just as interesting. A lot of the dungeons feel the same, aside from a few related to quests, and the leveled enemies and loot are boring/inexplicable as well.

Even as a 12 year old I was agonized by the awareness that it was a shit fucking game that looked like crap. In fact, that’s the only reason it’s culturally relevant. Because people make fun of it being a shit game that looks like crap. Unfortunately, post-irony has warped people’s brains into believing "good because bad" = "good on its own"

Oblivion was an early herald for the dark times and you would do well to remember that.

At one point, an Indonesian modding autist made a legendary trifecta of monstergirl mods filled with bestiality, teraphilia, and guro. It made the game a fever dream to behold, especially with what it did to dungeons and oblivion gates. He tried to release a side-series which populated the towns and cities with lolis amd shotas, and the shivering isles with Alice-in-Wonderland themed loli mosntergirls. Sadly, that content was too risky for the folks at loverlsab so he got banned. His works are still around the internet though.
