I’d guess it’s a mixture of the general upkeep of it as well as the appearance they’ve tried to uphold with newer McDonald’s places. I’m guessing kids would wreck those controllers and stands all the time, get sauces/food stuck in shit, and just come in to play the game (I knew plenty of parents who would basically drop them off there as a temporary daycare for an hour or two). That and a lot of McDonalds these days, at least from what I’ve seen while driving by, seem to be trying to look more modern and "mature" with sleeker exteriors and more coffee shop-esque artinside. They probably want to put some distance away from the kids friendly look they had for so many years.

In addition to the stealing and breaking already mentioned McDonald’s has also severely cut down on pandering to kids in the past decade and a half. Most stores got rid of the playground area and the main areas are sterile as fuck now. All thanks to pearl clutchers saying the clown and company were making kids fat so they had to go. First Ronald lost all his supporting cast and now he too is missing outside of the Ronald McDonald House thing.

I went on vacation with a group, we went to a little island in south america. There was this rich persons house, might have been a timeshare, idk. It wasnt that big, but it looked nice. All the hyper lefties were saying it was too "posh" because the clay tiles it used as its roof stood out too much among the houses with regular roofing. These sorts of people hate nice things, liking poor quality things is like a status symbol or something.

near where I live there used to be one store which had a hilarious history of different things being there, but unfortunately Developers eventually decided they wanted to bulldoze the building to make way for an apartment building.
first it was a Mcdonalds in like the 90s, then that mcdonalds closed for some reason I don’t remember, so it became a Blockbuster, then you know what happened, and after after that it became a store that specialized in selling old videogame stuff, then that closed because the owner got in an accident/hospitalized and his wife decided that it was not worth it, and the very last thing it became was an Adult store where you could buy porn/sextoys until last year

You’d think they’d intentionally design their buildings to be unique, that way even when they sell it you still remember what it was. There’s a Mediterranean place nearby that makes me think about dairy queen because it’s in an old dairy queen building.

I remember my local one having Philips CDI kiosks some 25 years ago.
I was only 6. I didn’t even know what a CDI was. Sadly, Hotel Mario or the Zelda CDI games were not part of it. Instead, was a stupid Sesame Street "game", a stupid pop-up "game" starring a circus seal, and the worst racing game imaginable that barely controlled at all.
The controllers had a giant touchpad, with two rectangular buttons above it, and I never seen it anywhere else ever.
