It’s a VRChat avatar in one of the VKET worlds. Not sure if that VKET is still running, but you might check the Dead Avatar Storage map, they tend to reupload a lot of the previous vket avatars.

VR gameplay is hard to get across on video. Sometimes I wonder if people don’t understand the hands in the game and the controller "waggling" are directly connected.

I was considering getting a VR set to really immerse myself in video games that allow it, like racing games. but then I thought why not just get a nice car and drive it around instead

What the fuck kind of "nice car" are you going to get for the price of a VR headset? Maybe I’ve been playing racing games wrong, but nobody is playing racing games to drive a 96 Toyota Tercel or some shit.

Because a car requires many payments and maintenance and is a hassle to have

not him, but between my PC, TV, surround sound, VR, and fanatec wheel/pedal setup, my game room cost about as much as a used miata

I actually justified buying the fanatec setup as being cheaper than prepping my car for the track and the associated maintenance afterwards lol

that said, cruising in old lotus cars in VR is fantastic

Unironically the Quest 2 simply due to the fact that you can play fully wirelessly.

There are a few at my local Best Buy, but I’m not sure if I want to get that instead of just getting something better

I’ll be hooking up to my PC anyways probably

I think the headset has been out for a month or so, and the full bundle came out two days ago. Apparently, you’re better off buying just the Vive Pro HMD and buying the Index controllers and lighthouses separately; and it’s slightly cheaper doing that than buying the full Vive Pro 2 kit.

cuckerberg sucks but the conversation is boring and over at this point, who gives a shit. he’s saving the industry and when the standalone index comes out grand standers can jerk off their ego about how they stood for something while pissing in the wind and thinking the data mining war isn’t already lost

accept it, move on, and enjoy the future of VR.

Well then what do you suggest for the most premium VR setup? The quest is also a mediocre headset, it’s just cheap and wireless (which are both good perks I’m not knocking it)

index alone? reverb g2+ knuckles? you can’t get a varjo. I know everyone is different but to me wireless is the most important and then FOV at a reasonable resolution.

the quest 2 pro is supposed to have two micro OLEDs amongst other things and if it can provide base station level tracking without base stations and FBT, well…

The garden isn’t that walled, but I understand what you are saying

When I say play wirelessly, I don’t mean playing the shitty phone graphics quest games they sell on the oculus store. I mean the ability to stream PC games over your wifi to the quest so you can get full fidelity Steam VR games wirelessly (you can also just plug it into your PC).

As for utilizing the hardware of the quest 2 itself, you can easily install Sidequest which allows you to sideload any program similar to how Android works. I don’t use it much since I just play PC VR, but I used it to get the quest 2 port of Doom 3 and return to castle wolfenstein onto it. So in the end, you’re only stuck on the oculus store if you’re a complete normie casual.

You don’t get full fidelity either way. The throughput of Wifi and USB-C is lower than Displayport.

gentle reminder that the quest 2+ or quest 2 S is going to be announced next month alongside the quest 2 pro

thanks to cameras in the controllers, we’re going to get base station quality tracking (no dead zone behind hmd cameras), and potentially full body.

inb4 the debate about faceberg data mining don’t care about it right now but ill give you some insider info

valve is using the steam deck as a way to scale up the SoC for their standalone index, which has patents on the same tracking style as the quest 2+/pro, basically the base stations will be inside the headset not going to argue about that

if you want to pay for a mediocre headset (vive 2), a wireless adapter, and knuckles. Not cost effective at all and the lenses on the vive pro 2 are said to be really bed even with the improved FOV.

You’re right, but if you max out the settings and maintain good wifi it really isn’t that noticeable at all. If your wifi fucks up or the bitrate drops its extremely noticeable though. I still think the wireless trumps everything else, although I’m not going to say that the Index or other headsets aren’t a worthy buy as well.

I just can’t seem to figure put how to shoot consistently in vr. Trying to aim down sights feels weird and point shooting makes me go cross eyed. Plus I keep accidentally pointing the gun too low or too high with my wrist. Anyone got any tips? Played through boneworks and outside of the rifles I felt like I was just spray and praying.

git gud. I don’t mean that in a rude way, I just mean you have to train yourself to be able to aim with both eyes open. You can always close one eye to aim down the sights, but you’re not supposed to do that in real life for reasons I won’t pretend to know or understand, but you should definitely not do it in VR because closing one eye kills the stereoscopy effect.

      • #91451

        Guest

Unless you have a virtual gunstock you’re always gonna struggle a little bit with two handed guns. That being said, a certain level of crosseyedness is desirable when aiming down the sights usually. Take out something with a holo sight and practice aiming with both eyes open using the reticle. Eventually you get a to a point where you can aim well with both eyes open while retaining the situational awareness. Also load tracers and dont even try to aim apart from pointing and hipfiring, and you will get better at getting your weapon on target. Unless you’re sniping or really trying to retain accuracy at long range closing one eye is detrimental from a meta standpoint

Do you still need a garden gnomebook account if you’re not planning on buying Quest 2 games and only intend to play PCVR games?

Yes, it asks you to login once to set it up. However you are not forced to use facebook, it’s to use the in system social integration, you can set everything to private and forget about it.

For vr reviews I recommend benplaysvr. He looks like a massive soifag and might be one outside his videos, but in his reviews he’s actually pretty restrained and also covers an absolute shitload of stuff

quest2 can run vr games natively, as you might expect something smaller than an ipad isn’t going to run the most graphics intensive games.

One thing with any VR headset to be aware is nausea. The secret to nausea is if you get seasick, you stop playing, take a break and don’t come back until you feel better. Playing through nausea doesn’t work and you will eventually get less nausea over several days of playing. Starting out I could only play 10 minutes at a time.
