if someone reads War and Peace Abridged Edition for Kids I don’t expect them to hold the same level of conversation or speak to the same kind of experience as someone who read the full thing.
      It degrades the medium.

Gatekeeping is dead and has been dead for at least 6 years, anon.

Gatekeeping is essential for communities to retain their identity. A large influx of people who only passingly care about a piece of medium will poison the well and degrade discussion to the most basic levels, usually overused memes and meaningless praise for something they don’t fully understand leading to the core audience feeling alienated and pushed out.

I agree, but that just means that if you play on easy you shouldn’t be allowed to discuss the game. Not you shouldn’t be allowed to play it.
That said of course anyone is allowed to play anything on easy. And they will, or won’t, be respected accordingly.

You say that to a gatekeeper actively keeping a gate. You’re retarded. Dumb memer

Gatekeeping isn’t real to begin with.
There’s only lazy faggots that don’t want to apply themselves and just want to passively consume. They will bitch and cry until they can participate in whatever without actually doing anything.

Most hobbies aren’t even that intense on the gatekeeping unless you’re joining an actual niche foreign fanbase I guess.

People told me Warhammer 40k is hard to get into and is extremely gatekeeped but I just read overall summaries on some wiki, looked at some marines I liked, then found some characters I thought were cool, found out they were books about them and just kept going from there.
When I talk to the 40k guys at my local FLGS, they answer my dumb questions because I tell them I’m new to it and getting into it and don’t give me shit for not knowing shit.
I’m looking into buying minis later but that shit is expensive as shit and I’m not that interested in playing the game and the 40k guys basically just went "yeah that’s reasonable enough", didn’t really give me shit for not wanting to play the main game.
Same with fightan games which I have been in a lot longer but my intro was the same, I just politely asked questions, they showed me guides, gave me tips, and offered me matches.
Fuck, even on Ganker when I look at a game series that is kinda cool and just ask what it’s about and any suggestions for starting off, people tend to provide straightforward answers and don’t give me shit for it.

So I don’t get it, I’ve explored a lot of different communities but I never felt that they were trying to kick me out or bully me for being new. Where’s the gatekeeping?

              That’s what I’m saying.
Nobody that ever actually wanted to participate in something would be stopped by something like "gatekeeping".

Choose easy mode if you want but don’t whine on twitter about Sekiro being difficult because you don’t have the balls to actually try at something.

No one should care what difficulty you played the game on I support the "sekiro should have an easy mode" crowd and I beat the game 2 times I played normally for the first run and got all the side bosses then I started a New Game Plus without corros charm and with the bell demon Awakened so I don’t want the easy mode for myself I want the easy mode for disabled people or for people with accessibility issues

Because if devs cater to the lowest-skilled players, then you’re going to reach a point where the game exists not as a challenge, but something you just use to occupy time.
      >people didn’t want the trouble of actually collecting Pokemon, so we just start you with a PC full of them
      >players were upset that certain cosmetics are unlocked at higher difficulty levels, so we turned them all on by default
      >soccer moms can’t spend all day grinding to the level cap, so now the game just starts you at level 99
      >finding all 6 ingots for the secret weapon was hard for a couple kids with short attention spans, so now you get a full inventory from the start

I feel like difficulty mode isn’t always 100% descriptive of a game’s difficulty anyway. A game can make mass appeal compromises and be casualized in ways that are too ingrained in the design to be adjusted by difficulty mode. Plus, retards forget that normal mode in 80% of games caters to them to begin with.

          >retards forget that normal mode in 80% of games caters to them to begin with
That’s one of the big offenders right there. The clearly-not-a-gamer crowd coming in and expecting the "normal" mode to not have any difficulty at all. Not saying that every game needs to induce controller-throwing rage with impossible bullshit, but there needs to be some sort of skill curve as the game progresses.

If someone doesn’t want to be challenged by a game, they’re better off watching a Let’s Play rundown of the thing.

But people already don’t read anything longer than a tweet anymore. A best they just go for podcasts and audio books instead.
It’s not uncommon for online articles to have some disclaimer at the top like "this only takes 5 minutes to read" just to get people to look at more than the headline.

Books and movies fall into a different category of media consumption. They’re largely inactive as far as the user is concerned — the movie plays out the same, whether you’re wide awake or tired, the villain always reveals the plot to the heroes on page 87, etc.

Games can have a similar flow of events, but require the player reach the content through developing skills and learning the game’s mechanics. If you don’t want to put forth any effort in a game, you watch someone else play it for you.

Not everyone should, but anyone who plans on holding a serious opinion about a game should. It’s embarrassing seeing people complaining how shallow or dull a game is while making it very clear they didn’t ever struggle and had to use every mechanic available because they just brainlessly skimmed the game due to ultra easy difficulty not even requiring you to adapt to anything.

If you just want to play for fun and story or whatever, yeah go for it. But if you want to later go on some discussion board of the game afficionados spout dumbass opinions don’t get butthurt when people rightfully tell you to fuck off.

no but it’s cringe to act if easy modes are an accessibility feature for muh tired working gamers instead of cope for people who don’t actually like video games but play them to be trendy.

They shouldn’t. It’s a very transparent attempt to bolster their own ego. It’s ok to be prideful about doing well in something difficult but it’s entirely unreasonable to apply that standard to everyone. Just be happy that easy mode is only optional

      >never played Megaman Zero all the way through back in the day
      >use all my continues before the part where you get to select your level
      >get my shit pushed in by every boss and get the bad end
      >I have other shit to do so I just play something else without getting beat up about it
It’s just that easy. Granted I was playing on a flash cart so I had zero investment in it, but these days when you buy a game it is extremely forgiving. Brick and mortar stores and steam all let you return your shit no questions asked within a certain time frame. The only people I see whine about it are FOMO faggots and game journos.
