you can enable ftpm in the bios, but win11 currently slow amd cpu.
let the npc beta tester do their job and wait 1 to 2 years than upgrade or switch to linux

I installed it today. There’s a workaround by deleting every mention of NPM in a dll file, also
That being said, I’m finding more inconveniences than good new features. Good thing I only installed it in my laptop and not my main PC, I’ll probably wait until the Android update at the very least.

Disable TPM/dTPM/fTPM and/or disable Secure Boot in the BIOS.

Linux has a basic minesweeper that works.
Windows 10 and 11 requires you to download it from the windows store, and it’s filled with ads

I learned that many of Paradox games run well on SteamOS.
I may actually ditch Winblows because I spend 99% of my gaming sessions almost solely on EU4.

What does Windows 11 actually offer that Windows 10 doesn’t?

      • #414640

        Guest

Not much. It has core integrated Android emulation which is really fucking nice if you need that, way better than BlueStacks and other related cancer bloat. It will also have the full proper DirectStorage implementation, Windows 10 is only getting a severely hobbled version which kinda blows since that’s kind of a huge deal for SSD gaming.

Other than those 2 though, nothing very big.

Nope, you need an RTX card since Nvidia opted to offload the compression to the RTX cores so it doesn’t impact performance (similar to NVENC and DLSS, albeit on different cores)

I mean you can screech your CONSOOM shit all you want for your sour grapes. Their use of tensor and RTX cores for tertiary features are why their shit like NVENC and DLSS don’t look like dog shit like AMD, who puts all their trash on primary cores and has to half ass it because otherwise they’ll murder game performance with them.

DirectStorage is the only Windows 11 exclusive feature that would be worth upgrading for. But its probably nothing game changing. I reckon, based on nothing, it will help improve performance in certain data-streaming heavy titles especially ones that end up using UE5. But for most games the performance increase will be 5-10% at best. Again, basing this on nothing, just pulling figures out my anus.

          >performance increase will be 5-10% at best
It heavily reduces the load on the CPU while streaming data, so the performance increase could also be 0% if you have a 5950X, or you are GPU-bottlenecked either way.
Or you could go from 15 to 60 FPS if the game streams a ton of data on the fly and you have, let’s say, a 6C/6T CPU. That’s in theory of course, as far as I’m aware no game supports this feature yet, there aren’t even tech demos available to try it. It’ll probably take a while before it becomes widespread, a couple more years at least.

That’s why upgrading to W11 right now makes zero sense, its main feature is years away still. I’m currently using W10 Educational and I’ll switch to W10 LTSC 2021 once it comes out.

Has nothing to do with that feature. The scheduler doesn’t properly assign to AMD cores in the preferred way (doesn’t account for CCX packages) and it slows the living fuck out of the L3 cache, which Ryzen heavily relies on.

windows 10 offers the things that windows 11 does compared to 7 which is not all that much

better use of higher core/thread counts for the OS, DX12 which almost nothing uses, for some reason everything still uses DX11. resizable BAR support, which is barely a boost to anything

really, windows 7 isn’t much worse. the hard part will be win7 compatible drivers for newer hardware in the future. MS will probably never stop updating 7 in the near future for security anyway

This is how you install Win11 without TPM.

Make sure you prep your flash drive with the iso this creates properly. I can’t be bothered explaining it, so you’ll need to fucking google it. Basically you make two partitions.

Well for one your PC needs to be able to use UEFI to install W10. If your current machine is BIOS based then you’re out of luck, time to install Linux.

Yeah i checked using bdcedit or however that command is called and i have BIOS. However i seem to read online that UEFI is not NECESSARY to have for w10, just….much, much better than BIOS? I’m not sure of what i’m reading. This PC was gifted to me and i know nothing about computers.

Back when Microsoft spammed Windows 7 users with popups (~2015?), I upgraded from a pirated copy of W7 and it became a genuine copy of W10. I don’t know if it works the same way nowadays.
But as I said, you should just install LTSC 2019 (or Education if you wanna play games on GamePass or use any of the newer features) from scratch. Upgrading from an older OS makes the system weirdly unstable and it’s strongly advised against.

Well for one your PC needs to be able to use UEFI to install W10. If your current machine is BIOS based then you’re out of luck, time to install Linux.

You can install W10 on an old BIOS system and it works. Source: I used an i7 920 (CPU from 2008, Windows XP/Vista era) up until a couple of months ago, W10 worked absolutely fine.

Man I don’t know how you guys can have such CPU’s in earnest. The only things stopping 11 on my set up is me just outright not turning on settings and little else. Though beyond getting an android emulator not being adware heavy I don’t have much reason to do such either. Also once the Steam Megaman X-Dive is global I’ll not even need that.

On Windows 7 everything worked right out of the box.
On this shitty OS I have shadowplay giving me no end of trouble and various programs "forgetting" my settings with every boot.

Seriously, does anyone know why this stupid fucking shit refuses to work with shadowplay? Anytime I fullscreen a video shadowplay just stops recording the screen. Is it some lame copyright protection? Then it should kys, because it does it with discord screen-sharing as well.
