Crackdown 2 was mid. If they had made the terrorists Islamic fundamentalists it would have been uberkino and 2010 was the perfect time for such a foe.
However they went down the stupid mutant surrealist generic technoterrorist saferoute.

A shame the first one was the peak, with the 2nd be pretty good too but lacked the variety and bosses of 1.

Oh yeah crackdown I remember all the good reasons to buy that game like number one: it got you access to the halo 3 beta and number two: uhhhh.....

Verticality of it was fun as frick. I don’t think that anyone thinks of its as a modern classic, but at the time it felt like a pretty unique spin on open world game formula that doesn’t overstay its welcome.

But I can imagine that if I played it the first time today, I’d probably be a lot harsher towards it just because many games afterwards have done the same idea with giving the player superhuman agility and a city environment to scale.

It was a fun game for what it was. A perfectly solid and actually true + deserved 7/10 game. A real 7/10 though not the hyper inflated version most number scores go by where everything below an 8 is seen as trash and really these days even an 8 is seen as garbage. Its a perfectly good 7/10 game.

For me I had a lot of fun jumping through the city getting those agility orbs or whatever they were called. The games sense of progression is actually better than most games including RPG's. It was a very simple game but it didn't need to be more than that. I would say it never truly got good sequels. It probably never needed sequels though tbh.

        >Crackdown truly is the best average game of all-time.
Never thought of it but its possible. I'm actually struggling to think of any other truly average games that deserve to be seen as average but are fun enough to be seen as the best average game ever. I always enjoyed the PS2 Dynasty Warriors games which I am sure most would say are average at best if even that but I always saw them as a bit above that at least. They get repetitive sure but I loved them. Very addictive and I like them better than Crackdown for sure. I just can't put DW 4 or 5 in the same league as Crackdown they are above it.

You basically wrote what I was going to write about Crackdown being a great 7/10 game. Not every game needs to tell a great story, look wonderful or have some mindblowing gimmick, sometimes you just want to have fun with a game that simply feel good to play in straighforward sense. Games like Crackdown, Red Faction Guerrilla, Driver San Francisco, none of those are genre-defining experiences or innovate anything revolutionary (well, RFG kind of does with its demolition mechanics, or could have if other had wanted to copy it, but still), but present nice dozen (or two) hours of solid gameplay without too much extraneous bullshit.

    >brother gave me his old x360
    >remember playing this for a bit at his apartment
    >ran around the game punching all the bosses to death
    >absolute fun the whole time doing so
shame i didn't get to experience the online fun people had back then. not using guns and just dropping the bosses was and will always be top tier hilarious.

I wish Realtime Worlds didn't die.
APB should've took off and maybe we could've got a proper Crackdown 2.
