What hype? They were always up front about what this thing was, what it was going to do. They always took the approach of "here's our silly little thing we hope some folks like it" but the homos on here seethed nonetheless. I thought the Playdate seemed cool but the idea of paying up front for some shit I won't get for months and months seems dumb. That's like an instant priority filter for me because if I have to think about buying a game or game system for more than a few minutes I'll talk myself out of it because I'm a grown up.
They were basically making it for themselves and a small group of people who wanted it. That's why there were preorders for a long time so they knew how many to make.
Frick man I wanted this thing to get a backlight, local wireless and online play and get serious. I don't see it as a contender with the big boys but it can be something really special. 2d games can provide just as much fun as AAA 3d. The design is perfect. Just a solid little slab of tech.
There was hype?
It actually looks fun but only for $75 tops
i wonder if it can be hacked to emulate gameboy
It has a gameboy emulator yes.

This thing is nearly half the price of a Steam Deck
So does anyone know how the Lucas Pope game was? That was the only reason I was paying attention to this hipster trash.
Yawn
But can it play nuts.wad?

How?
Emulator fricking when?
this is clearly like a boutique thing for designers to play around with, not really a device meant to become a commercial success.
it's a toy for game developers, we barely have any devs left on Ganker who aren't in permanent lurking mode
They were basically making it for themselves and a small group of people who wanted it. That's why there were preorders for a long time so they knew how many to make.
AND ONCE AGAIN Ganker - Video Games HAS PRETENDED THAT A NOVELTY HIPSTER TOY IS A SERIOUS CONTENDER IN THE VIDEO GAMES MARKET
but enough about the steam deck
>duhhh pc don't count

Did this thing fail yet? I was kind of hoping to pick up one for $25 to mess around with
Also aren't these sold out and being scalped on ebay for like 3x normal price.
