The Naughty Dog Crash games are also full of esoteric shit, coding-wise. Anything in the name of pushing more polygons while retaining a solid FPS and eliminating load times as much as possible. I think CTR might actually be the least insane one.

I've been playing it. the only issue I've had is audio breaking during a boss fight. restarting the game fixed it and it never happened again.

You remember wrong, then, as the PS3 Jak Collection had a lot of problems, from lighting issues to audio crackle, even occasional crashes. It was worse than the Ratchet Collection.

it's a rewrite, they have full access to the code and know how it works. they already have a few videos showcasing it, albeit in early stages. everyone gets to see the game from the 1p mode perspective, and it supports up to 8 players. the only thing i find annoying about it are the usernames, which are big as frick

Original has better physics, but the remake has more characters, maps, and in general is more polished.
Keeping blue fire for the entire track and air-braking without losing reserves is also fun as frick, which puts the remake ahead of the og for me.

Yeah, I still remember playing Hot Air Skyway a lot, and gradually getting better at holding blue fire until I was able to do so through the whole track, that was pretty cool.

There already is a mod that ports NF mechanics into the OG CTR, for example the ability to keep blue fire (it even turns your exhaust fire blue), the ability to air brake without losing your reserves, etc

So I have a question, there any of this projects complete or nearly completed.
Mario 64 was the first big one, OoT after but it's based off a debug build so it's a bit finnicky to get going.
Sonic 1, 2, CD and Mania are all more-or-less done
dungeon keeper 1 recently fully completed its open source rewrite (keeperfx), but it was already a PC game

Never played CTR before. Should probably give it a shot.
It's been one of my favourite games since I was a kid, though it can be hard if you don't know the mechanics of drifting and stuff, so don't expect "babby kart game".
I used to play Sonic Riders religiously, difficulty is not a problem as long as the game is fun.
I just thought I should warn you about the difficulty. I remember when the remake came out, a lot of YouTubers and streamers playing it were thrown off by the difficulty, and were like "WTF THIS ISN'T MARIO KART?".

Crash's fanbase has some pretty decent talent within it's ranks, I wouldn't put it past them to make some stuff for it like they did with the PC ports. Plus the game is multiplayer focused, which invites a way more active community due to replayability.

Just select arcade>single race>any character>any track and change the number of laps to 5 or 7 but don't start the race. Press triangle to go back between menus and then select cup race, when you start the cup all 4 races will have 5 or 7 laps.

Yea. That's quite an important distinction. I simply think it's easier, as in more limitless, to make certain things happen using a 3d engine rather than RBK2's engine. You can get a better scope of depth. It's easier to animate in 3d. But we'll see. Open Sm64 for instance isn't quite compatible with every single sm64 romhack so there's still a long way to go for most of these projects.
