Does it get any better?
Currently in Chapter 1

It gets good when you enter the city, which is when the world opens. But I would still recommend reading the books first, otherwise you won't understand the story or characters.
This. When you get to the city the game becomes a medieval detective game and it gets good.
I only read the books after playing 1 and 2, and I wish I read them earlier. The games also nicely mirror the books in their story design: the first one focuses on Geralt and some of his friends in miscallaneous small adventures tied together by the larger plot, the second one focusses on politics and the third one focuses on Ciri.
Exactly. It's also important because you don't even know who Geralt is. The game isn't a typical RPG where you can pick any playstyle. You're supposed to utilize all spells, potions, and sword styles. That was something I didn't understand and I got filtered by the piss easy combat of Witcher 1.
It gets worse.
It gets better, then worse, then much better, then worse.
...sort of? W1 definitely has its own identity and once you get a good grasp on the combat and get invested in the story you'll settle into a period of enjoyment. Unfortunately, that period didn't last terribly long for me with the constant running and backtracking everywhere so I got filtered after about 20 hours or so.
enjoy the beast fight
The whole trilogy is garbage.
It's good from the get go but if you aren't having fun yet I'd at least play until you're questing inside Vizima. If you're still not having a good time then I'd put the game down.
It arguably has the most complex and deep story out of the trilogy but it looks and plays like eurojank ass so idk
Try installing the walking speed mod. It makes the game a little more tolerable.
Yes way better, end of chapter 1 is peak if you keep up with the side content
chapter 3 and 4 are the best but you have to play through half the game to get there
Chapter 2, 3 and 4 are kino but for really different reasons each one. I can't think of much other games that change the feeling and atmosphere this much in a short period of time
I swamp areas suck, and Witcher 1 not only has one but TWO of these fucking things.
It unironically does.
... I'm afraid no. Chapter 1 IS the best chapter. Vizima is okay, swamps suck, both of them. The Lake Village is almost good as The Outskirts.
But if you aren't having fun in the outskirts maybe you will like Vizima best.

I finished this game two times... back in the 2010's and another time last year after reading the books.
I love this freaking game
>install a walking speed mod
>either heavily engage with the combat mechanics, meaning potions/prep/combat styles OR just give up entirely and cheat invincibility. Figuring out which one you prefer more quickly helps a lot.
>Chapter 2 has a lot of walking back and forth if you're not careful, it's neat narratively but an absolute slog if you approach it poorly. Just do literally everything within the city you can before going to the swamp, there's no restriction or anything it's just fucking awful walking to the swamp constantly so 1 big swamp trip is better.
>Don't remember much of Chapter 3 honestly, Chapter 4 is cool, Chapter 5 is short.
when this game came out i pirated it, played it twice and still bought the enchaned edition when it came out and played it about 5 more times. Got me to buy the Last Wish novel whiich was a great read too. Feels like that friend you knew early on who made it big and now you dont know who he is anymore
Chapter 1 is the best chapter.
No, that's 3
Are there any drawbacks or consequences to Geralt whoring around
What a dumb fucking question
Is that a no?
Pretty good
Would play again
Its for all intents and purposes a professional simulator of a drug using fantasy monster hunter, who somehow has managed to come over a town that is so fucking haunted you can't walk 5 feet without tripping over some bullshit.
All while tangling in the bullshit that hunting exotic infiltrators entails
Depends on what you mean with better. Story, locations and characters? Yes. Gameplay? It becomes progressively worse.
The swamp is fucking great and I'm tired of pretending its not.
It actually feels really threatening when you first get there and its very satisfying making it your bitch as your progress.
The swamp is decent but only because it's literally the last time the game is not braindead baby mode.
the books suck
