It looks like Playstation's version of Splatoon. Also I really hope they don’t pull a Destiny and they keep the artstyle grounded in Sci-Fi. Hate how fantastically and ornate Destiny became.
>Also I really hope they don’t pull a Destiny and they keep the artstyle grounded in Sci-Fi. Hate how fantastically and ornate Destiny became
Daily reminder they took this from you and replaced it with some they/them cyberpunk surfer bullshit in the latest D2 DLC
Marathon trailer looks great but I've been so burned by bungie destroying everything good about destiny over the years. I just dont trust them
>halo was better
It was the phantom menace of bungie games, it came out when they had to sell out, it had a bunch of kiddie shit, and only people who were kids could unironically think it’s better than marathon
Marathon was too high IQ. They just took some concepts from it, produced a good FPS, and called it a day. Halo is really not the special game you think it is. It landed at exactly the right place, and the right moment. But yeah, for most of Bungie employee, they were just reselling old stuff and sending it into the dark.
With a new engine. And some real gameplay improvement, which ultimately took the entire Xbox by surprise.
Point is, most of those people have since long departed from Bungie, sometimes literally departed. Bungie couldn't recreate a Halo to save its life - Bungie can certainly not recreate a fucking Marathon to save its life, too.
Christopher Barrett the new Marathon game director has been there since 1999 and Jason Jones one of the co-founders is still heading the company to this day there are still quite a few of the old guard working there with influence.
I'll acknowldge it when I see it. Marathon is a fucking flawed masterpiece - but it was a fucking flawed masterpiece written with two or three layers of meanings by absolute autists. You can absolutely reproduce that, today, but I highly doubt that Bungie, as a company, can do it.
Most likely, it will be a mediocre shooter, one of which we had for years. Maybe a decent shooter. We'll all say it's decent, we'll forget it in one year, and the company will keep going.
I do really wish to be pleasantly surprised, but I don't think I will.
It has the S'pht, but I really am disappointed this doesn't have a large single player component. Learning about the Pfhor was fun. And even if they bring back Durandal he's wasted on a fucking extraction shooter.

The vidoc talks about entering a special zone, then doing tasks inside it to unlock it for others. Not exactly single player, but it sounds like the next-step for Destiny raids. Doing stuff in a persistent server that unlocks content across the entire game. The problem will be data-mining making these things not last more than a week being a secret.
Just make it another IP, I don't get it. It's not like being a different IP restricts them from using Marathon background in it, Bungie has been doing that shit since Combat Evolved.
Sounds like it takes place on Tau Ceti after Marathon 2. What intrigues me is how clean the cyborgs look when the battleroids are supposed to be grotesque fusions of dead bodies with a bunch of tech.
Considering you're lamenting what is essentially a reboot of your beloved game without even seeing or playing it yourself, I'd rather be a hypocrite than the sour ungrateful piece of shit you turned out to be.
i came into the thread thinking the exact same. a man of taste i see. it's dated but in a nice way, i think they could have used a bold version and it would have still fit the aesthetic
Are you retards for real? You actually call these smooth plastic-fantastic graphics good? Kys
Also if you wanna call something CYBERPUNK.
ATMOSPHERIC.
KINO.
you should wait several years first so most people forget it was shit and its okay to be a contrarian
I expect Marvel tier quips about frogblasting.
This game shouldn't have been titled Marathon. It'd be cool for it to be separate and just have hidden connections instead - if it were a prequel set on Mars, for example.
I hope Nu-Bungie can pull it off despite missing 99% of everyone who developed the classic hit Durandal. I'm surprised they are going for extraction shooter genre
Atleast they are doing the smart thing and using persistent servers, instead of session based ones. So instead of being in a Tarkov queue for 5m and dying in 30 seconds, you just load into a server that is always going. The problem I see with this is how they will deal with loot, anything that works about Tarkov doesn't translate with persistent servers. Cycle Frontier has events that go over the whole map, and if you are outdoors you are randomly teleported somewhere which is also a loot-refresh.
The time limit on your character is probably how long you can stay in the map, and I assume there are ways to extend that.
After posting it, I was swiftly reminded by thoughts of Bungie Marathon trademark leak a couple of years ago and it surely had the extraction shooter label on the leak.
the trailer was great and I have no connection to OG Marathon to know what to complain about
but I'm also not interested in a Tarkov clone
if I get to make or dress up a cool robot/android/whatever then maybe I'll play
a probably pay to play BR doesn't sound like it will sell well though. This isn't CoD and Tarkov players will still probably play Tarkov
To clarify all the complaints about controverisal visuals change.
Runners are not members of Marathon crew nor Tau Ceti colony denizens.
Runners are part of UESC and MIDA(although they changed name), they came to Tau Ceti colony either after receiving Leela's message after about a century or they came to Tau Ceti after Durandal returned to Earth with the gift of alien technology as it was shown at the end of Marathon 1. Either way, it wouldn't make sense
to see the same gritty primitive technologies as in the first games, considering time passed since Marathon vessel launch (300 - 400 years) and possible usage of alien technology resulted in rapid technological advancement.
Although, I will admit, this change is quite radical atmosphere-wise. I hope game would be not so vibrant and flamboyant and devs just went all-in in trailer, but I am still skeptical about it.
marathonthegame.com site states that game will be set in 2850, so thims means events of the game will take place 500 years after launch of Marathon ship.
I like Marathon, but Marathon was done when the entire industry was three geeks in their garage, all touting about obscure stuff. And writing the most mind bending story they could have written - hell, it's the perfect example of a WTF I just did read story.
Inifinity is the perfect example of what happens when the geek in charges of a sequel try to outdo the WTF factor of the previous works, which was already WTF^10.
All of that is lost, nowadays. Do you really believe Bungie, the Bungie of today, is able, willing, and capable to create anything like Marathon? Do you? Nah, most certainly not. It will be an okay rehash, and worth of a good laugh on Ganker, for several months, until we all grow bored of it.
So let me get this straight.
I'm somewhere that's NOT exactly what I would call Halo... I'm a freaking rampant AI, I'm seeing freaking bug alien soldiers and... oh yeah I'm talking to a freaking CYBORG security officer. Yeah okay that is something that I do now.
I kinda liked some of the visual tricks used by the trailer, a few definitely fit with Marathon's tone and aesthetic
But it'll take more than that to convince me that Bungie is capable of making of Marathon today, let alone a spritual successor or something in that vein
lookin fukin lit Ong
poser boomers SEETHING
does snipers have unreal tournament instagib ?
I actually really like how this looks, is there similar scifi games out there besides maybe destiny?
It looks like Playstation's version of Splatoon. Also I really hope they don’t pull a Destiny and they keep the artstyle grounded in Sci-Fi. Hate how fantastically and ornate Destiny became.

yep this looks like marathon
it seems pretty clear at this point that if they wanted to make Marathon again, it would be called Halo and they would still be making them
downright faggy art direction, SAD
I like it, though it's not actual Marathon.
Not like I'll play it anyway because
>extraction shooter
Meh. Whatever, Marathon was cool, but Halo was better. It's not a big loss.
>halo was better

>think it’s better than marathon
I love Marathon but it was heavily limited by it's gameplay.
System Shock took it's place.
Marathon was created in the early 90s, so no shit, for its time it was a better game than halo was for its time
never played marathon, is it supposed to be a doom clone with less ammo and low gravity?
It could have been anything and yet it had to be branded marathon.
Sad.
not cyberpunk you fucking npc
It's vat-grown bioengineered cyborgs fighting for alien artifacts and gear after near total human annihilation.
It's cyberpunk
cyborgs don't suddenly make something cyberpunk retard
"punk" is not an aesthetic
It looks like Mirror's Edge or Overwatch instead of techpriests and Alien
Mirror's Edge had an even more nuanced color palette, and it shone because of its texture and lighting work. I'm not impressed.
Those caterpillar things in the beginning of the trailer was kino
Based. Maybe we’ll actually get a good one since CP2077 was terrible.
It has the S'pht, but I really am disappointed this doesn't have a large single player component. Learning about the Pfhor was fun. And even if they bring back Durandal he's wasted on a fucking extraction shooter.
It will probably have raids in Pfor controlled territory and fights against bosses

Look at Craig Mullin's Marathon concept art if you want to see why original fans might be a bit disappointed.
looking at concept art is just an exercise in disappointment regardless of what series it's of.
Even the opening level of Marathon has dim blinking lights, and a borderline creepy atmosphere. It should be closer to the Nostromo.
>kino aesthetics
based
>tarkov clone trash
cringe
Am I the only one who thinks this looks nothing like Marathon?
Pretty much everyone was thinking it dude.
it looks okay, but bungie is full of rainbow haired foids and even worse chuds
I wish Activision killed Bungie at this point
Can’t kill something that’s already dead
>CYBERPUNK.
>ATMOSPHERIC.
>KINO.
wasted in a pvp extraction shooter.
>*blessed by a pvp extraction shooter
Compare.
Wtf is that gun? I'm convinced that was made by an AI
The soundtrack was cool.
>babby listening to justice for the first time
No this is the first time I heard Justice
I’ve been listening to Justice since 2010 you gay
>CYBERPUNK.
Stop using terms you don't understand.
Sounds like it takes place on Tau Ceti after Marathon 2. What intrigues me is how clean the cyborgs look when the battleroids are supposed to be grotesque fusions of dead bodies with a bunch of tech.
Timeskip, I guess? But that doesn't explain why the Marathon itself is so clean and pretty.
The font for the original series was really cool too, even given stylistic changes can you really justify dumping the old?
Anon, it's been almost 30 years, things change, and you need to deal with it.
>dig up 30 year old franchise for nostalgiabait
>lol you filthy boomers should get with the times
Hypocrisy is unreal

Fucking why did they name it Marathon. It looks cool, but it looks nothing like Marathon and is another GaaS turd
Are you retards for real? You actually call these smooth plastic-fantastic graphics good? Kys

ATMOSPHERIC.
KINO.
you should wait several years first so most people forget it was shit and its okay to be a contrarian
Doesn't Marathon have like some sort of complex lore or whatever?
THEY
THEM
>marathon
>that logo
ExFUCKINGcuse me
I expect Marvel tier quips about frogblasting.
This game shouldn't have been titled Marathon. It'd be cool for it to be separate and just have hidden connections instead - if it were a prequel set on Mars, for example.
Its way too far future to be cyberpunk.
>It's not cyberpunk because it isn't low sci-fi
Retards
By your own logic Halo is cyberpunk
Best way to play OG Marathon? Is there a version with modern hud?
Aleph One

Yeah absolutely no one from Tarkov is going to drop that for this game
Slope with nice visuals, same as Destiny
Eat the path
>cyberpunk
idiot
the poles cannot shift fast enough, extinction event now please
Anyone who is still sick of "brown realistic shooters" wanna come forth?
here I am. feels good to be winning.
Brown is not realistic.
colors won and bloom lost and that's a good thing
To clarify all the complaints about controverisal visuals change.

The Marathon's interior should look more like the Nostromo, regardless.
>metadoom
>no metamarathon
It can be as atmospheric as it wants, gameplay will be trash

>Looter shooter
Shut the fuck up.
>no single player Marathon that plays like a mix between System Shock and Doom
Fucking hell
>multiplayer
> PVP extraction shooter
Damn I really thought we were going to get something reminiscent of classic Bungie singleplayer
I know.
The idea that Bungie now could replicate Marathon is like, ten layers of irony deep. But keep doing memes. I hope some of them will filter through.
I kinda liked some of the visual tricks used by the trailer, a few definitely fit with Marathon's tone and aesthetic
