People shit on Arven for this but at the same time, by his own admission, he resented Sada/Turo for being entirely absent from his life, leaving Mabosstiff to be his only true "familial" connection. Learning that his parent died long ago must've been shocking for sure, but he outright said he hadn't heard their voice in YEARS before the events of the story, so even if he was obviously a bit sad I can't blame him for trying to move on as quickly as possible.
I think people that play pokemon sometimes don't have a basic understanding of human emotions. The way it's presented it's made obvious that he doesn't have a relationship with his parents at all, and he already suspected something was wrong. So when it all goes down he is probably a bit fricked up but not in a way where you'd burst into tears.
If you read the journals scattered throughout the research labs it stats that Arven's dad left shortly after he was born and she started to resent him.
Started to resent arven or his dad/mom? Plus, the journal where sada/turo first bring back the cover legend says that they thought they were going to be blessed with one new life to treasure, but got two of them instead. The Professor loved Arven, but not in a meaningful way.
Resent Arven. The journal in question is in the research station after the one you mention

Funny how the AI is more loving to the son than the actual mother. Makes you think. Then again, AI was working with logic and Sada is in too deep with her fantasy.
The prerendered cutscenes for the most part actually look decent (except for one where the audio desyncs for no reason). Everything outside of that is janky. They probably did these early on once they got the Ed Sheeran contract
Who cares if he haven't seen his mother/father for so long. The story should have cared a bit about Arven's character in that climax and that's a fact. At least just from an emotional perspective, the plot destroys all kind of emotion just by letting the ending happen like it does because it literally feels like: "my mother died? Whatever..."
this plot was nice and Arven as a character was good. His story doesn't insert itself every two seconds like Lillie did. And while he's obviously a closed off character at first he's not complete edge like other Pokemon characters that have "tragic" backstories.
As someone who had to watch my dog waste away due to cancer, his story got to me, too. I'm glad they spent the extra time and effort into actually animating this scene
His role has nothing to do with Lillie's. He's much more of a side character. His main plot feels like a side quest... And the end is just fast to even care about him.
they're the same character, the only difference is that Lillie's mom was a helicopter psycho mom because of brain parasites and Arven's mom was a neglectful mom due to her obsessions >they both mistreat their children >they both have a connection to the box legendary, as do their children >they both realize how much their children have grown without them, nearly too late
at least Arven's story leaves you the frick alone
My dog passed away due to cancer a few years back as well. For a while the vets thought she had Cushings disease which they just put her on lifelong meds for. We later discovered it was cancer when we rushed her to the emergency clinic one night after she had a seizure. Had to put her down the next day.
I’ve seen my dog helplessly dying even though I tried to save him from cancer. He was my only friend and the only living thing that ever liked me. Frick this world
Wait, the sclera and pupils are actually a fur pattern? The orange is the only part of its eye? I guess it matches the pre evo's shape but I didn't know it was like that
They were like >This characters whole part of the plot is how he's trying to heal this very sick pokemon. >We need to design a new one for this role. >Ok so draw the SADDEST old dog you can. >Nope SADDER. Make it really droopy and old.
I felt so bad that I let his dog faint two of my low HP mons in battle instead of just one shotting it right away, it just felt right to let him have a small win.
Arven is unironically the most based character in the game. Dude has his entire adventure across the region because he just wanted to make his dog better. Having a sick pet who can barely hold up is fricking miserable.
I cried a lot. Felt terrible during the battle though, like wasn't this dog on deaths door like 8 minutes ago?
Same. I really like his character a lot. I'd say he and Nemona are tied as my fave characters with Penny at 3rd from the 3 friends/rivals.
>Nemona is literally just a battlegay, but she's actually kinda fun to be around >has some bizarre interest in you to the point where it feels kinda romantic because she hasn't met a trainer who actually pushed her back in a battle >encourages you to keep battling >clearly wants you
pretty based. she was enjoyable for me and less is more in her case. arven is a character who had an actual good story told in this game and i honestly cared for him and his mabosstiff.
i was expecting to hate these characters but they were good
Literally speaking from experience. My folks had to basically take in one of my friends and nurse him back to health back in middle school when he had pneumonia because his parents chose taking care of their arthritic wiener dog over him.
Someone's getting pretty defensive about how much their race loves the taste of dog semen. Most races abuse their kids because of Christianity or having a culture that despises the weak. Doing it for a dog is a purely white thing.
>legitmage parental problems >your long life friend is about to die because you're told to one of the most dangerous place in the country
Penny is a shut in that dislike her father sheltering her and Nemona is too oblivious.
>mom died? Whatever
if I barely knew my parents I don't think I would care much if they died
Mabosstiff is Arven's mom

He literally said he hasn't seen his parents in years, and he is still in school so his parents basically abandoned him
>play ed sneedan
wait wtf this actually looks competently animated

>pre-rendered
if it was pre-rendered your character wouldn't have their customization options showing. These are obviously in-engine

I don't see the problem here
knot'd
These scenes were unironically the best part of the game.

Lusamine wasn't a helicopter mom; she literally viewed her children as objects to be possessed.

Same for me. I didn't care about the bullying shit. Penny was garbage and Nemona was ok but a simple story of a dude and his dog was good enough.
I’ve seen my dog helplessly dying even though I tried to save him from cancer. He was my only friend and the only living thing that ever liked me. Frick this world
It’s time to put down old yeller…

i wonder if the ghost pokemon was meant for him but they decided it wasn't sad enough
I felt so bad that I let his dog faint two of my low HP mons in battle instead of just one shotting it right away, it just felt right to let him have a small win.
>Mabosstiff
cookie or rocket?
According to bulbapaedo, it's male
Mentally ill freak
Post that dog's smile
I was sure his dog was gonna die and transform into the ghost dog

Who cares about that dog
Honestly it just confirms something we all knew anyway: white people love their dogs more than their own family.
rent free shitskin
Literally speaking from experience. My folks had to basically take in one of my friends and nurse him back to health back in middle school when he had pneumonia because his parents chose taking care of their arthritic wiener dog over him.
Okay, and I can post video evidence of other races beating their children beyond punishment or even just killing them. Your point is?
Someone's getting pretty defensive about how much their race loves the taste of dog semen. Most races abuse their kids because of Christianity or having a culture that despises the weak. Doing it for a dog is a purely white thing.
>loves the taste of dog semen
I'm not Canadian bro
Anglo thing.
seething
In my country dogs are family, if dog fights cougars and coyotes for you, you punch people for dog, it's only fair
But he's a Spaniard
"Guy trying to save his dog" is probably the most surefire way to get people invested on a character and their story. it worked on me
I actually got emotional and worked up because I thought GF was going to kill him at the end
My dog recently died and this make me sad again. Frick you anon.
I actually thought that, too. I really did.
>tfw my dog turned ten a few months ago
I can feel it coming on the horizon. I'm not ready.
I never had a pet growing up but this still hurts
>Growlithe
>Maschiff
>Fidough
>Greavard
Any other dog pokemon in Paldea? I want to make a full dog team
Lucario is a wolf and maybe houdoom
I actually wasn't expecting that many options this is so cool I can finally be the dog whisperer.
Houndoom is the only clear dogmon remaining. You'd need to rely on Lucario or an Eeveelution to complete it.
houndour//doom
rockruff is a puppy that becomes a dog/wolf/wearwolf
Rockruff/Lycanroc
Bro you could make 4/7ths of a team with just the Rockruff evos
NOPE
Did not pull at my heartstrings once because Arven was an unlikeable c**t to me in the beginning.
How about that subplot where he resent the pokemon that cause the death of said parent?
arven is the best pokeboy. all the guy wants is to make his dog feel better and that's kino as frick
>Nemona
>Penny
>both girls
>never cry in the game
>Arven
>guy
>cries in multiple cutscenes
homie, das gay.
Penny might as well have cried with all her stutter speech in Team Star cutscenes.
>legitmage parental problems
>your long life friend is about to die because you're told to one of the most dangerous place in the country
Penny is a shut in that dislike her father sheltering her and Nemona is too oblivious.
Mabosstiff is a child eating pitbull
He's a mastiff, not a pit bull terrier, learn to dog before you go shitting on pits.
Keep in mind I hate pits too but mastiffs are good boys and girls and also far more effective guard dogs.
My whole poison monotype team got wiped out by his tentacruel thing using earth power. I haven't fought a more tough fight other than Norman's slaking
>"ha look at this long haired loser"
>introduces his Mabosstiff
>instantly turns into one of my favorite characters
