Code Vein for all its shittiness did the O&S fight right. You can use the pillars to avoid long range attacks but you can't stay there for longer than a second or you get clapped
Dark souls has always been about strategy over skills in combat, this philosophy is still continued in Elden Ring, which is why they gave you all sort of consumable and items like summons to break the game. Luring the enemies to fall to their death is the same as doing plunge attack on the asylum Demon instead of fighting him from full HP, or making the Iron Golem fall to its death in its own arena.
Beating the game by using non-combat mechanics has always been in Souls game, only autists prefer doing shit like SL1 broken sword only run, and the game should not ever cater to that mindset
All the bosses in ER that are fought inside arenas where they could fall to their death have an invisible wall protection built in that makes it impossible for them to fall off the edge. Depths and Blightown intended paths are also linear as frick, only you can meme yourself out of 70% of the progression if you have the master key or know how to get to the back entrance through Duskroot Basin&Valley of the Drakes (which nobody would on first try)
No, I went to darkroot garden, found the side path to the basin, killed the hydra, found the path to the grass crest shield and the bonfire, followed the tunnel to valley of the drakes and went the literal one way I could to find the back entrance.
It's not my fault you don't explore in videogames
it's basically a sequence break as the "rear entrance" is meant to be the shortcut back to Firelink after you ring the bell
From Soft didn't expect people to be somehow moronic enough to miss Lower Burg/Depths but bumblefrick into Valley of the Drakes through Duskroot Basin

I'm not sure, I think it's a case of them literally not having any of their playtesters do that, so they didn't think about the foible caused by the item placement
they clearly positioned the key as a reward for completing Blighttown and finding the exit so you can go back to Firelink, and master key is meant to open this back path early for people that know whats up
but the ass backwards trek from Darkroot to Valley to open up New Londo Ruins before entering Blighttown very much looks to be unintentional

larping homosexuals never cease to amaze
I think everybody does that on first try. My og playthrough I had 20 hours in the dungeon with the Skeletons before I realized I was going the wrong way.
I stopped playing after teleporting back to the beginning after Anor Londo because I didn't know where to go next and I was starting to get bored of the game tbh
DS3 mogs both DS1 and 2 both in terms of gameplay and level design
All the people that disagree are nostalgiahomosexuals and "le old good new bad" homosexuals
>omg direct sequel has things from the prior gaem?!?!??!
DS3 is the the only game ever to bring out people too fricking stupid to understand the concept of a sequel
DS3gays ARE the nostalgiagays. >OMG YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS ARTORIAS YAAAAAAAAAAS ORNSTEIN YES YES YES DARKMOON
You can screech about references to DS1 all you want, DS3 is still a super solid game and honestly more fun to play than DS1.
Which I don't hold against DS1, they had a lot of time to improve on the games.
The main thing that puts me off replaying DS3 is the linearity. The design of the individual areas is often very good but I wish the world as a whole was less of a straight line. It also feels a bit light a lot of the time and not quite as weighty as DS1 but that's not a massive problem, but you can tell they were really still in the mood for going fast after making BB.
the linearity is a meme, it's only as linear as DS1 is after you ring the 2 bells or the Artorias DLC
DS3 is basically on the same level as DS1 once you get to Sen's Fortress

If the game allows you to powerlevel by putting your life on the line, it's a legit form of gameplay.
I mean sure? It's a single player game, if you want to power level then that's your prerogative.
Personally I wouldn't do it unless I'm really struggling
At least that death is more avoidable than oopsie poopsie you got swept into a hole by the model despite taking no damage
But seriously how much of a hurry were they in to approve this dumpster juice boss
Honestly they probably wanted a multi tier, unconventional boss fight, but wasted a ton of dev time trying to make the doomed concept fun.
it did have several phases originally, you would've fought the tree dude normally after he left his throne, but it got cut
iirc his original name was the King of Izalith
Would have been better if the just committed to the gauntlet to start >Phase 1 is running towards the BoC, avoiding its swiping attacks and pyromancy >Phase 2 is traveling through its innards, fighting demons inside of it while it spawns fire pillars at spaced out intervals >Ends like the current fight, killing the deformed, defenseless bug at its core.
>DaS1
Strong first two thirds of the game, end is rushed with good and bad elements. >DaS2
Weak start, incredibly mixed throughout, mostly saved by fantastic DLC. >DaS3
Strong start, weak middle, strong ending.
>mostly saved by fantastic DLC.
I still don't get this praise. I thought Dark Souls 2 DLC was really boring or convoluted with the exception of a few really good bosses.
> fantastic DLC
where did this narrative come from?
they sucked ass, just as much as the rest of the game
Shulva's moronic pillar city, empty block pyramid and dragon butt lake 2
Fume Tower's 10 obnoxious debuff b***hes and elevator shit
Loyce's bootleg Anor Londo without any of the cool level design and barren as frick environments
that's not even mentioning the terrible coop levels, Alonne's fire lizard moron level etc. the complete lack of personality and plot due to the lack of npcs (only Loyce had 1, and she sucked shit, muh "bring 50 souls" quest)
only decent things in them were the main boss fights: Elana, Sinh, Fume, Alonne and Ivory King
Dark Souls is great all the way through, with lost izalith arguably being the only place with a questionable dip in quality. even so it's still not that bad. I'd take lost izalith over pretty much the entirety of Dark Souls 2 any day of the week.

it's basically a sequence break as the "rear entrance" is meant to be the shortcut back to Firelink after you ring the bell
From Soft didn't expect people to be somehow moronic enough to miss Lower Burg/Depths but bumblefrick into Valley of the Drakes through Duskroot Basin
It's not a sequence break, it's just good world design. Doesn't change the fact anon was too moronic to find a door kek
I think it's the case of them giving the player the agency to do whatever he wants. Being able to travel between zone freely is not a mistake.
>didn't expect
I don't buy it. If you have any RPG experience at all, you'll see the way you're supposed to go from Firelink to progress and then instead try out every other optional route.
>you didn't go the EXACT SAME ROUTE I did in my first playthrough so you're moronic!
I was gonna say "inb4 no u don't idort" but I was too slow
>"nono I totally explorations'd"
larping homosexuals never cease to amaze
I think everybody does that on first try. My og playthrough I had 20 hours in the dungeon with the Skeletons before I realized I was going the wrong way.
>duuuude muh interconnectivity
>it's bad because it's linear
morons
Lost Izalith is bad because it is bad. Archives and Giants Lair are fine, but it is still lame that they each only connect to exactly one other zone.
Archives connects to two zones technically!
I just consider Crystal Cave to be the back half of Archive.
>anime girl reaction image
Bad meme. The quality never decreased, it wasn't that high to begin with so on average the second half was about as good as the first half.
I stopped playing after teleporting back to the beginning after Anor Londo because I didn't know where to go next and I was starting to get bored of the game tbh
Has there even been a bigger quality drop in gaming?
>Dark Souls after Burg and before Anor Londo
Absolutely cucked take. Every post-Lordvessel zone is solid, save for Izalith.
Crystal Cave sucked ass
that entire courtyard before you enter the cave is on the same level of unfinished as Izalith
Crystal Cave was a cool concept but it was hurt a ton by the closure of the official servers.
i felt that Sen's fortress was more annoying than Anor Londo
Game goes down the shitter AT Anor Londo. Sen's Funtress is the very last good segment.
DS3 mogs both DS1 and 2 both in terms of gameplay and level design
All the people that disagree are nostalgiahomosexuals and "le old good new bad" homosexuals
>nostalgiahomosexuals
DS3 can't walk on its legs for five minutes without making refs to DS1, you actual troglodyte.
>references mean DS1 is better
>omg direct sequel has things from the prior gaem?!?!??!
DS3 is the the only game ever to bring out people too fricking stupid to understand the concept of a sequel
DS3gays ARE the nostalgiagays.
>OMG YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS ARTORIAS YAAAAAAAAAAS ORNSTEIN YES YES YES DARKMOON
>waah Dark Souls sequel has Dark Souls thing in it waaah
once again, only the dumbest of fricks say something like this
Keep being an hypocrite, you fricking moron.
>le hyppocrate
so you don't know what that word means either
literally too fricking stupid for English
You can screech about references to DS1 all you want, DS3 is still a super solid game and honestly more fun to play than DS1.
Which I don't hold against DS1, they had a lot of time to improve on the games.
Eh. It's a lesser Bloodborne with casualized dodge rolls spam. Wish Fromsoft kept the health regain on attacks mechanic in DS3 and ER.
I wouldn't know, I haven't played BB yet.
I was just comparing 3 to 1
The main thing that puts me off replaying DS3 is the linearity.
DS3 is basically on the same level as DS1 once you get to Sen's Fortress
>it's only as linear as DS1 is after you ring the 2 bells or the Artorias DLC
????
DS3 is as linear as DS1 after you ring the bells in DS1, and is also just as linear as the Artorias DLC of DS1 which is also linear like DS1 after you ring the bells in DS1 so DS3 is as linear as it is
you understand now, worthless ESL homosexual Pedro? kys
?????????
>leebin.jpg
right, you are a disingenuous homosexual of the highest fricking magnitude, bordering on outright not having played the fricking game
remove all the zones you need to complete before Sen's, and then fricking chart the game's progression
will you look at that it's all linear levels that end in a bonfire from which you teleport away from
get fricked
>half the game is linear, compared to a whole game which is linear, so they're EXACTLY the same!
>levels before sens
also it's a png, not a jpg
>dilates about how DS3 is not like DS1, even though DS1 does the same shit
>"THEY'RE NOT LEVELS THEY'RE ZONES"
>"it's not teleportation ITS WARPING REEE"
cope harder homosexual
>also it's a png, not a jpg
nobody gives a french frick moron
>"THEY'RE NOT LEVELS THEY'RE ZONES"
>"it's not teleportation ITS WARPING REEE"
never said this
>nobody gives a french frick moron
then why did you call it a jpg
>but if you REMOVE all the interconnected levels, then you get, uh... you get uh several choices from the hub as to where you go and uh... which is the uh... it's the uh, it's the same as DS3 where you get a choice of... of only two major bosses and it's... it's the same?
crying and touching his little girly penis
>never said this
you (you)'d random parts where the only thing you could possibly dilate about is terminology
and now you are backing down like a little homosexual after your semantics fail
>then why did you call it a jpg
same reason your mother is a prostitute despite not recieving any money
nobody cares
>muh choose between non connected linear levels, most of which you teleport to and from
thank you for acquiescing that the interconnectivity is gone
>get a choice of... of only two major bosses
as opposed to 4 bosses, lmao you're such a dumb homosexual, thanks for proving yet again DS3 is the same
>muh choose between non connected linear levels, most of which you teleport to and from
in half the game rather than the whole game.
>>of only two major bosses
>as opposed to 4 bosses
yes, 2 and 4 are different numbers
>in half the game rather than the whole game.
which is why you shat out your jpeg fellating the whole of DS1, instead of just half of it
oh wait
kek thank you for agreeing DS3 is like DS1 homosexual, cheers
>muh numbers
lmao, admitting that they're the same besides a small variable
thanks homosexual
>your jpeg
it's a png, not a jpg
>fellating the whole of ds1
yes, half of it is very non-linear, half of it is more linear but still less non-linear than DS3 (two halves make one whole)
>besides a small variable
do you not know how to count?
>mom is not a prostitute, she doesn't get paid
sad, many such cases
>very non-linear
oh yes, you can get to Anor without tolling the two bells and going through Sen's
oh wait
kek, way to fail at even describing the early parts of the game accurately
>less non-linear
you're functionally moronic
>B-BUH MUH NUMBUH
lmao, still the same homosexual
>you can get to anal without tolling bells
I can choose what order to toll the bells in and go between them without teleporting, and enjoy all the fun locations on the way
>numbuh
my penis (8 inches) is bigger than your clitty (<1 inch) but that is also just a number
>what order to toll the bells
there 2
there are exactly 2 orders
lmao
>go between them without teleporting
you can't teleport until you get the lordvessel you dumb frick
>all the fun locations
it's not an open world game either you dumb frick
there's a couple of paths you can take to Undead Parish and Blighttown
and you can do Four Kings early if you really want to
you sound like you never played the fricking game
>muh dick
lmao the projection is off the charts
>you can't teleport until you get the lordvessel you dumb frick
yes so the early game is a lot more interconnected, versus in 3 where it's a straight line.
>there's a couple of paths you can take to Undead Parish and Blighttown
>and you can do Four Kings early if you really want to
so you're agreeing with me that it's non-linear and you can do things in the orer you wish to?
>muh early game
so you agree that Dark Souls 1 is as shit as DS3 after you toll the bells homosexual?
or will you keep dilating about how it's somehow different, even though you have admited it's the same in both games
>so you're agreeing
learn to read homosexual
you were larping as if DS1 early game was some open world homosexualry
to which I said it's a choice between path A or B and that it sounds like you haven't played the fricking game
especially when you shit out this
> in the orer you wish
when there are 2 bells, both mandatory and you just spent the last several of your posts crying about the number 2 in relation to DS3
get fricked larper homosexual
>so you agree that Dark Souls 1 is as shit as DS3 after you toll the bells homosexual?
well I have a choice of 4 bosses rather than 2 (if I didn't already take advantage of the non-linearity to kill 4skins), and those are different numbers. but that's just half the game.
>A or B
both of which have about 2 routes for getting to them, so in total I have about 4 routes i can choose if I want, which is more than DS3
>larper homosexual
we are on the internet so even if I was RPing by definition it would not be LARP
>those are different numbers
I knew it, dishonest homosexual will autistically dilate about the same shit in DS3 the xir makes excuses for DS1
you admitted they're the same yourself you repugnant fanboy, get fricked
>routes
nah, frick you with your backpedalling homosexual
you were larping as if it was open world "muh choice" shit
only to now admit it's just a couple of linear paths for the early levels
eat shit moron, you played yourself
>not be LARP
lmao, literal autist arguing semantics
nobody cares, you're being insulted for being a loser homosexual that pretends to have played games when you clearly haven't
>not understanding what numbers are
yes, having more options to get the same result makes something less linear than only having one option to do it.
>larps that it's "open"
>"ackshually it's just 2 different corridors leading to the same place, but MUH NOT LINEAR"
>open
i never said it was open, you're the only one who ever said anything about open world.
i said it's less linear.
>2 different corridors
4 (still a larger number than 2)
>autistically dilate about the number 2
>"BUT MUH 2 BELLS"
kek, repeating yourself won't make you right you dumb homosexual
>does not understand that 2 is a smaller number than 4
anon.....
>*if xir keeps dilating about muh numbuh, xir will win argument*
>even though xir already admitted DS1&3 are the same
lmao what level of brainrotted do you have to be to think like this you dumb homosexual
>brainrot
>does not comprehend that 2 and 4 are different numbers
anon.......
>MUH NUMBUH
kek
nice admission of failure homosexual
>the numbers in these two games are the same
>>no they're not
>wooooow why are you so focused on numbers?
anon.............
>the numbers in these two games are the same
haha
never said that any point you autistic illiterate homosexual
this entire time you dilated about muh numbuh
because you're too fricking stupid to comprehend English
larps playing DS1, larps speaking English
kek
it's over anon. i'm going to play DS1 and have a lot of fun choosing between the many early game routes and sequence breaks that allow me to play the game the way i want. I hope you can have as much fun choosing between the Cathedral of the Deep and Catacombs first..... i'll be gone from here on out so if you reply again, well, it'll just be a sad admission you have to have the last word........ goodbye.....
it was a png, not a jpeg
>realization of xir's own moronation hits
>I-I-I-I g-gotta go...
>b-buh pls don't reply I beg you
>MUH JPEG
lol
lmao even
cry harder homosexual
>I don't like this area because... annoying!!!! (translation: too difficult)
just read this, no need to read the rest of the posts
They just gave up at this point. I didn't mind the other parts, they were better than blightown at least
what the frick is with your UI
And yeah, Izalith feels like it was made someone 1 day before release
I grinded in the woods (you know the trick) in DS1 so I could ring the bell and steamroll everything downstairs.
Would have been better if the just committed to the gauntlet to start
>Phase 1 is running towards the BoC, avoiding its swiping attacks and pyromancy
>Phase 2 is traveling through its innards, fighting demons inside of it while it spawns fire pillars at spaced out intervals
>Ends like the current fight, killing the deformed, defenseless bug at its core.
see, this is why we quit out instead of walking back to the center, guys
and why we bring flash sweat
Brume Tower is tedious but I love the dungeon crawling feel of Sunken and the environmental shifting aspect of Ivory.
> fantastic DLC
where did this narrative come from?
they sucked ass, just as much as the rest of the game
Shulva's moronic pillar city, empty block pyramid and dragon butt lake 2
Fume Tower's 10 obnoxious debuff b***hes and elevator shit
Loyce's bootleg Anor Londo without any of the cool level design and barren as frick environments
that's not even mentioning the terrible coop levels, Alonne's fire lizard moron level etc. the complete lack of personality and plot due to the lack of npcs (only Loyce had 1, and she sucked shit, muh "bring 50 souls" quest)
only decent things in them were the main boss fights: Elana, Sinh, Fume, Alonne and Ivory King
im trans btw
good on you sister
dlc's still suck donkey dick
The bosses were fun and that's the only part of the game that matters
The DLCs were nothing special since the base game was also really good.
>troonime
>DS1 after Anal Rodeo
>DS2 before DLC
>DS3 before Irithyl
>Elden Ring after Morgott
Bloodborne and Sekiro are the most consistent From games, even if you agree that they do dip slightly at certain points.
even dark root sucks
Dark Souls is great all the way through, with lost izalith arguably being the only place with a questionable dip in quality. even so it's still not that bad. I'd take lost izalith over pretty much the entirety of Dark Souls 2 any day of the week.
>arguably
Dragon Butt Lake is aids needle infested dumpster of a zone
Demon Ruins is also pretty crappy with reused boss enemy spam, like the 6 Taurus Demons after you kill Ceaseless
Archives Prison and Crystal Cave suck
It's fine except for Lost Izalith
Stop repeating this moronic reddit meme
What's the best randomizer combo for DS1?
Item and fog gates? Enemy rando seems too chaotic
Only Izalith sucks, the rest is a meme.
