Honestly addons ruin wow for me. Takes ages to configure and some outright break the intended difficulty of the game. When I raided as a kid, I didn't use addons and was able to keep up, but they simply make the game way easier. They're also ugly af.

People who didnt play back then would never really get what it was like. People of all levels were getting on during the weekend just to have fun and not even worry about leveling. You had constant battleground pops of every bracket, raids against enemy towns of groups of people who werent even level 40 yet, it was a different time.

the human starting zone progression is the best in WoW and they clearly dumped a ton of time into it before realizing they wouldn't be able to do it for every race. elwynn -> westfall -> redridge -> duskwood is such a fun, natural feeling progression that escalates appropriately and even ties into endgame stuff with onyxia and the black dragonflight

The Kalimdor Horde quests is all about carving out a niche for your budding faction in the hostile lands of Kalimdor, there's also some quests you do for Thrall where you weed out Warlocks that are doing sketchy shit in Orgrimmar and the Barrens. Wailing Caverns is your first introduction to the Emerald Nightmare.

You're right though that the majority of the interesting storylines for Horde questing revolve around the Forsaken. Dealing with the Scourge, developing the plague that eventually makes its debut in Wrath of the Lich King, the Scarlet Crusade, Arugal and his Worgen, eradicating what's left of humanity in Hillsbrad, doing quests for Nathanos in the Plaguelands etc.

I have the making of warcraft book and the reason those zones are the most fleshed out is because they did them first and had to remake them several times as the tech/tools for the engine changed. They realized if they made every zone to the same level of polish they would miss their launch window. Great book by the way if you are a vanilla die hard.

In the Vanilla Canon, most of the Alliance forces were at Chillwind Camp holding back the main advance of the Scourge and at Nethergarde in case the Legion reopened the portal. Even if this wasn't at all obvious from how things looked in Vanilla. This is why everywhere else is woefully undermanned and YOU are needed to act.

I will always remember one late night wintergrasp we realised the entire horde raid was up against a single gnome warrior. He had so many stacks of the outnumbered buff he was unkillable and oneshot anything he looked at. The most we could do to hold him off was try to keep him slowed as much as we could and sacrifice a DK to death grip him away from big groups when he whirlwinded. Must've been amazing to be that gnome at that moment.

It's decent. The balance changes suck ass, because the devs are seemingly too afraid to break anything, but the new zones, quests and dungeons are pretty cool. Also shit like warmode and tents and the extra quests speeds up the leveling experience without ruining it.

I'm still too autistic to understand the point of that quest. was it just supposed to be sad, or was there something more? I like that it isn't some massive quest about slaying dragons, and just about an angry undead widow, but the last bit always confused me.

it was a breadcrumb quest. It gets the player to go to a new area. iirc the one from undead lands to barrens gives you a big pink cape which is a rare thing to have for a low level.

Well there's the irony of a paladin's wife being undead, the wife trying to cope with being turned undead while her husband got to die by turning all her anger and sadness towards him not being around due to fighting the undead, and the gravestone being defiled by the people he was trying to protect because the undead he was trying to save them from were themselves the population. To me at least, the quest gives more depth to the Forsaken's hatred of humanity from just outright hatred because they kill them to one more born of jealousy, a coping mechanism, and the light being unable to save them. All of the humans that fought back against the Scourge were killing their own people and vice versa. The whole irony and double meaning of "BETRAYER" was burned into my head since the first time I did the quest.

Or this is all pseudointellectual horseshit and it was just supposed to lead the other Horde races over the Silverpine.

            in Scolo/Strat
This is why I fricking hate TBC, Scholomance you can get a handful of runs in but Strat is just outright pointless with Outland being available around the same time. Strat to Naxx is the entire culmination of WC3 and WoW up to that point, the two most important areas in the entire lore in my opinion. Stratholme, the entire driving force behind WoW, the most important event to have ever happened in Warcraft and you, the player who more than likely destroyed the city yourself in WC3, get to see firsthand the carnage, how meaningless it really was in the end, and how futile the fight against the Scourge is then the chance to get revenge or avenge Stratholme in Naxxramas, fighting Kel Thuzad, the roundabout creator of the Forsaken and the thing responsible for the obliteration of Lordaeran. This isn't even going into wandering through the plaguelands and seeing the charred remains of the towns from the WC3 campaign.

Then boom, frick you, Durotar in Space complete with recolored boars, zones that don't mesh together at all, sci-fi fantasy theming, and making everything from level 57 onwards in vanilla fricking worthless. Just toss the Scourge storyline bookend into the fricking dumpster so we could fight robots and aliens. Jumping from vanilla to TBC was thematic whiplash then when Blizz did decide to bookend the Scourge storyline AGAIN with WotLK it was like getting whiplash all over again. Why the frick didn't they just release WotLK first? Who in that boardroom decided to put the storyline on hold for two years of ayylmaos and Illidan only to just pick it right back up with Wrath? Even going through it again in Classic it's such tonal whiplash and like a filler chapter on the way to something worth a shit.

            >hillsbrad, arathi
Sylvanas was attacking the people that lived there unprovoked. She ordered the massacre of the Hillsbrad farming communities for no reason. There was no attempt to make peace at all. Sure you can be angry about the Scarlet Crusade, but they don't exactly take "no" for an answer from Silverpine and Tirisfal farmers either and they were not defending Hillsbrad.

        Anonymous

Tirisfal->Silverpine->Hillsbrad is such a great sequence of zones

when I did them for fun when taking a break from my alliance characters I always liked how good they told their story too. with you constantly working for those apothecaries. made you really feel that they are their own faction and not just one more horde member

I absolutely love Tirisfal, without a doubt the best starting zone. The zones feel dangerous the moment you walk outside the crypt. Also you have some extremely good quest like Agamand Family.

I remember when that WoW classic server released back in 2016. it was nigh unplayable and i knew it'd get canned by blizz because they saw the potential in it considering how chock full it was. i was right. my friend that i played it was disappointed in me for giving up on it. but honestly, frick playing a classic mmo with such slow progression knowing it'd get canned

      Anonymous

Blizzard canned it in 06' and it was semi-canned again with TBC Classic release. Everytime you start a new xpac on retail, you throw away all the time you spent on the previous one because all the content becomes out of date.

        Anonymous

yeah i know how mmo's + expansions work and all that. i just knew the moment i saw its popularity that it was a waste of time in general because there's no way they'd let it live. blizz canned that private server like 6 months after or something
i just really hate the idea of making that that super slow progression rate fun and waste energy on it (because of how full it was, you couldn't even do level 1-10 quests in elwynn forest in peace) just to do it again later with a lot less enthusiasm because of how i look at things. i was also on my way to start my first real job and a lot of other shit going on that i decided to just save my energy instead

Before I bought the game in 2005 I spent ever hour on the site looking at the races and classes. It's funny how inaccurate it was. The manual too. For some reason they had the beta manual with the release version of the game. Shit like paladins having crusader strike and priests being more melee oriented and melee hunters etc. That shit wasn't even relevant in 1.0 from what I remember. Also it came with like 6 or 8 CDs to install.

I feel like BFD gets overlooked because night elves usually bail on Kalimdor by the time they're high enough level for Ashenvale in order to run Deadmines and start questing in the Human zones instead of sharing Ashenvale w/ Horde.

was that even done on purpose or did they misplace a mob from Shadowfang ?

Definitely on purpose, he's there to pick on low lvl players and build up the danger of Arugal and Shadowfang Keep.
