how big of a sd card should I get for emu games?
I see 1tb ones for $20 on Amazon but those have to be extremely slow, right? send like the regular brands are around $130+ for that much storage.
Either get a sandisk extreme 1tb or a samsung evo select 512gb. Those are the best performing micro SDs. The evo select is especially affordable if you can deal with less storage, which I'm sure 512gb is overkill for emulation.
so samsung, sandisk extreme, and pny all seem to be close enough that whatever's cheapest among them.
it looks like these advertise speeds of like 130 read but they can't break 100?
512 is the sweet shot but if you're a poorgay then 256 is more than enough for just emulated titles. It might fill up pretty quick if you play to play a lot of PS3

ok, I ordered the 512 samsung evo select.
I'm case anybody is curious, evo select is the amazon exclusive brand but exact same as evo plus.
I know this is bait, but sometimes there's games you just need to have installed.
Diablo 2 for example. I've had it installed for 20 years. I play it for a while, drop it for a few months with maybe one login per month, then grind it again.
I've been enjoying playing a bunch of indies on the deck, but 3d fps and such not as much as i thought. Like, things seem way too tiny on the screen for fps. I tried both DRG and L4D2, and everything just seems too tiny to make out.
My experience with FPS has been the opposite, it's been flawless for me.
when i bought my deck i genuinely didn't think I was ever going to install windows or even need it
not even a month later and I just installed windows 10 on it and holy shit it's a world of difference
no fricking around with lutris or bottles or boilr or proton or wine or any of that moronic shit, just torrent, install, and run
steamos is genuinely garbage and can't even run a ton of games like riddick or deadly premonition
I plan on picking up the smallest USB 3 2230 SSD enclosure and velcroing it to the back of the deck for when I need windows for shit like VNs, but for 9 out of 10 games steam OS has been great.
You might not believe it, but it is true. I do not own a fricking switch, as I would never pay so much money for shit hardware. I own a pc and a ps4 pro.
Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon.
For some reason the game looks clearer at 540p with FSR and sharpening compared to native, which is fine because I get more battery life that way.
3.3hrs at 40fps and 4 hours at 30fps.
the only torrent I can find for a game I want to play is regrettably from igg games. I figure if I just unpack it on deck and play there it wouldn't be a problem, but I think I shouldnt risk it.

only 1 seeder but they work, can't attest to the quality of the files though
I was thinking of picking up Signalis but I see it's on gamepass as well so I'm having a hard time justifying paying for it separately just to play on deck. I had the same issue with P5R. I wish gamepass games were just supported on it without streaming or having to run windows, I think I might just cancel it if that price hike they're threatening comes in next year.
Feeling like a brainlet here bros. How do I get my gog games on 'eck? I've downloaded them, placed them in appropriate folders, and added them to Steam using the "Add non Steam game to library" function but they either don't show up or fail to boot. What am I missing

genuine question:
Does runescape run on it?
Does league of legends run on it?
Dota 2?
CSGO?
I'm debating getting one this holiday, I've got some extra cash laying around but it being linux is making me think otherwise, a LOT of the games I play just straight up won't run on it, and many others I can't find info.
Seems like a bit of work but I'll look more into ti, thank you anon
>a LOT of the games I play just straight up won't run on it
Like?
maplestory, gundam evo, deathverse, halo mcc, division 2, conan exiles, thehunter cotw are some of my top games. Even throwing out gundam evo and deathverse since they're dying, that's still a significant number of games I play that say they don't work and are quite difficult to find info on. I know a lot of games that SAY they don't work will actually run, but I know many others also just don't.
lay comfortably on their stacks of money from all of the people buying steam games for this thing?
bringing more competition into the handheld space to drive steam store sales is literally the point of the steam deck, it doesn't matter what hardware the games are running on
The deck was made by top of the line engineers, the AYANEO was made by a some chinks that are so inept that they didn't figure out how to make something basic like a ball pen all by themselves until 2017...
Beat DOOM II vanilla today for the first time ever. Played it many times those past few years but I always dropped it because the levels of the midgame are really bad. Later levels are better and I really enjoyed the "fight" against the Icon of Sin. Currently replaying Thy Flesh Consumed, and will probably replay Sigil next. Don't know which WAD I'll play after those, maybe Evinernity or Ancient Aliens. Any recommendations?
Game feels great on the Deck btw, specialy if you play without freelook.
So the other day I gave Deep Rock Galactic a try again since it updated. Ran great at first but something cause it to drop frames into the single digits. Anyone ever had something like that happen? Made me also wonder if the deck supports directx 12 since I don't know shit about linux.
All versions of DirectX are proprietary Microsoft crap. Proton supports DirectX by translating games' DirectX API calls to Vulkan API calls. For DirectX 12, this is done using VKD3D; for DirectX 9/10/11, it uses DXVK.
There's a chance that I got some minor details wrong, but no chance that I care.
I did, it's a million steps just to get the game to run and that doesnt guarantee the 3d mod will work. I really wish it was simple as making a lutris prefix and it just werking.
>goes on Ganker >searches "Steam Deck" >enters Steam Deck thread >"Damn this [other handheld] looks pretty nice"
If it's so nice then make a thread about it.
Fricking Impossible Mode: don't mention Steam Deck in the OP.
it's the best decision i made, granted i haven't tried too many games yet but just the mere possibility of installing game pass games is something valve cannot compete with
I'll gladly sacrifice not playing a handful of games for better performance and controller support for every non steam game I load in Game Mode with proton.
not like you're giving up that option by dual booting windows? i just use windows for the games that steamos literally cannot run (protondb=unsupported), everything else (besides game pass and fortnite) i'll just run off steamos
Kingdoms and Castles is on sale, only played indie rogues on deck but wanted something with progression. UI scared me at first but devs made sure its playable with a controller
You are correct
Valve deliberately did read only bs to frick with linux compatibility for pirated games otherwise it would be easier to deal with pirated games but that's just the start more will be coming in the future like what google did to chromium
only if you care about the power bill and playing in bed.
t. shut in who almost never turns on his desktop anymore and knocked a solid $40 from my bimonthly power bill.
I've been playing the shit out of PlateUp! with my bros.

>harvestella
how bad is it? looked like extremely generic squeenix slop.
seems like a good time if you can prepare ahead of time for some gameplay annoyances like needing to eat before dungeons
it's bad, sub 60% rating on steamdb and that's even with the troony weeb bonus
I'll probably wait for a sale on Harvestella then. I should finish up some of my backlog before trying something new.
>DMC5 dropped to 52fps once at high settings
it's unironically over bros...
My eyes are so finely tuned I can detect a 1 frame difference at any time.
What are some things to avoid that brick the deck? Like filling the SSD and charging it at below 10% battery etc
how big of a sd card should I get for emu games?
I see 1tb ones for $20 on Amazon but those have to be extremely slow, right? send like the regular brands are around $130+ for that much storage.
512

nyooo!
thats nice. i have a 256 one and its short a few dozen giggies for it to be ideal. ps2/ps1/dreamcast/saturn/wii/gamecube games take up a lot of space
i didnt even consider ps3 vidya. 512 is perfect.
I hope valve do something about shaders in an update, surely they can fix it
Still no deck in frickn AUS yet.. Only listings online are at stupid prices $1349 AUD for 64gb or $2099 AUD for 512gb
What were the normal american prices so I can see how fricked it's actually meant to be at retail
>$2099 AUD
So like £5
I dont understand why people have like 50 games installed at once, like lmao just install one and play it
I know this is bait, but sometimes there's games you just need to have installed.
Diablo 2 for example. I've had it installed for 20 years. I play it for a while, drop it for a few months with maybe one login per month, then grind it again.
>I know this is bait
How? just install one game and play it, not my fault you are autistic
because you can play more than one game.
my internet is slow, i prefer to have everything ready on demand instead of having to wait a day to play any particular game
see now this i understand, fair enough if you have shit internet
You can literally only play one game at a time
I've been enjoying playing a bunch of indies on the deck, but 3d fps and such not as much as i thought. Like, things seem way too tiny on the screen for fps. I tried both DRG and L4D2, and everything just seems too tiny to make out.
FPS is bad yeah but i've found everything else to be peak comfy on deck
My experience with FPS has been the opposite, it's been flawless for me.
I plan on picking up the smallest USB 3 2230 SSD enclosure and velcroing it to the back of the deck for when I need windows for shit like VNs, but for 9 out of 10 games steam OS has been great.
I send back my 512 deck. Reasons were stick being weirdly large (not in size, but the distance to the unit), shit battery life. A shame.
none of this is true
You might not believe it, but it is true. I do not own a fricking switch, as I would never pay so much money for shit hardware. I own a pc and a ps4 pro.
I have $25 in my steam wallet. What game should I get?
Doom
save it for the seasonal sale on the 22nd

no

Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon.

3.3hrs at 40fps and 4 hours at 30fps.
can the deck get a virus on it?
Yes anon, what did you do?
the only torrent I can find for a game I want to play is regrettably from igg games. I figure if I just unpack it on deck and play there it wouldn't be a problem, but I think I shouldnt risk it.

Signalis is the perfect deck game, loving it. Thinking of grabbing furi which is 5 bucks right now
I was thinking of picking up Signalis but I see it's on gamepass as well so I'm having a hard time justifying paying for it separately just to play on deck. I had the same issue with P5R. I wish gamepass games were just supported on it without streaming or having to run windows, I think I might just cancel it if that price hike they're threatening comes in next year.
I like buying good games, I hate gamepass because I have no desire to finish or play anything when there's no commitment
Feeling like a brainlet here bros. How do I get my gog games on 'eck? I've downloaded them, placed them in appropriate folders, and added them to Steam using the "Add non Steam game to library" function but they either don't show up or fail to boot. What am I missing

I don't, that's why I'm posting about it. I know there's a way to get them working as I've seen YouTubers mention it

damn you really want to play fortnite that bad?
it's not just fortnite, good luck trying to get pic related to run on shitos
