It's both. These were reasonably commanding a couple hundred dollars not too long ago and that was probably a reasonable price for an out of print game in full box with all the doodads included. $5k is just horseshit speculation though.
the thing that makes it valuable is that moron homosexuals such as yourself attribute value to it. It has no inherent value, neither do any of these "graded" collectors items
???
The reason it costs so much is precisely because it's scarce, because mint condition physical copies of old games become rarer and rarer after they go out of production. Unless NFTgays get their way (and it looks like they won't) digital games are not affected by scarcity, there's no reason why most digital games would ever fall in this situation.
It costs $0 and like 60 seconds of your time to get a ROM of that game. Only massive tools buy secondhand physical games and they deserve to get taken for all they have.
>tfw Sonytards will never know the feeling of being heavily sought after and loved and adored this much by people
Nobody has nostalgia for Playstation. The PS Minis abysmal sales proved it
I have no emotional connection to any gay israeli video game company. If I want to replay the psx games from childhood I'll just use an emulator with less load times, higher fps+res and proper z-buffer. Only brand loyalist, braindead fanboys waste money on raspberry pi with a Nintendo sticker slapped on top of it you moronic homosexual.
>get a transparent plastic case that can fit a PS2 game case or a GBA/DS game box in it >print out a piece of paper that says "WATA" on it, and a random number between 90 and 100 also appears somewhere on said paper I printed with my crappy 20-buck Brother printer >stuff the game box/case inside the aforementioned plastic case >??? >profit!
in 2020 united states amended the anti money laundering act to force art auctions be more transparent. around the same time this game grading thing started to take off and because games arent art this new regulation doesnt touch them. draw your own conclusions.
If emulation, piracy and re-releases didn't exist, then it would be a crime. But they do, so who gives a frick? Whining about things of no practical value to anyone is stupid, and if you just wanna nostalgia then go listen to the music on Youtube or something.
Pokemon games and sealed booster boxes are a better hedge against inflation than 401Ks, treasury bonds, IRAs, ETFs, and savings accounts. For whatever reason, out of all the speculative assets that popped during the Covid bubble, pokemon held strong and became basically a legitimate investment.
Just because its listed doesn't mean it'll be sold. Keep in mind these morons would be holding like a 90%+ loss so they're probably begging some moron comes along so they can break even.
I can pirate the game and emulate it on my phone for free.
Why have the box so it can collect dust somewhere?
Same with books - got an e-reader last year and sold off/threw out all my books and freed up a lot of space.
Life is better without physical clutter.
I do this and sometimes feel bad about it, especially the book part. I get the urge to start buying them again but then remember I don't even have shelves to put them on.
I don't feel bad about it anymore after having cleaned out my grandparents' apartment after they died.
The amount of useless junk was incredible.
Turns out there is a thing called "Swedish death cleaning" which prevents exactly something like this.
It's the speculation market. The only people paying that much are the ones who plan to sell it for more later on. It's a game of musical chairs at best. I saw a guy last Comicon trying to sell shitty old comic books for hundreds of eurobucks, as if anyone cares about the first appearance of The Humbug. It'll dry up soon, like comics already have.
>DS games now
Literally only like a ten year old game. No way is it worth that much (or anything) as a "collectable".
A mint condition NES game with the original box is one thing, but this is beyond the point of being dumb.
Why moron people buying moronic shit makes this place seethe so much? I can sell you a pencil for 10k dollars, if you buy it, you are a dumbass. That's it. In what way it destroys your life so much?
>rare and valuable thing is rare and valuable
wooooooooooooooooooow
>a fricking pokemon game on one of the best selling consoles of all time being rare
Sealed copies of HGSS + Pokewalker are rare, yes
Or its just a bullshit inflated market
It's both. These were reasonably commanding a couple hundred dollars not too long ago and that was probably a reasonable price for an out of print game in full box with all the doodads included. $5k is just horseshit speculation though.
>rare
>valuable
>8th best selling game on the second best selling video game console
>wata games
>not an investment scam
lol lmao even
>rare
no
>valuable
frick no.
>mass produced piece of software available everywhere online
>rare and valuable
nintentroons ladies and gentlemen
The thing that makes it rare and valuable is the box and cart and of course the limited produced Pokéwalker that was discontinued quite fast.
the thing that makes it valuable is that moron homosexuals such as yourself attribute value to it. It has no inherent value, neither do any of these "graded" collectors items
>the thing that makes it valuable is that moron homosexuals such as yourself attribute value to it. It has no inherent value
>anon discovers the concept of money
Inflation
I won't, but I would like to flex and say I got a CIB SS for 80 dollars.
let the homosexuals circlejerk and play it on either an emulator or a flashcart
Good way of laundering money
What is the problem? Seems like a reasonable price.
Why are pre 3DS era Pokemon games so disproportionately valued?
It happens in waves. In a few years, the kids who grew up with the 3ds will want the games they had when they were kids.
Because HGSS are objectively the peak of the Pokémon franchise. And everyone knows that.
Unovaborts will just have to seethe below.
I only see two cakes.
>got this and heart gold in the box
Redditors will fund my retirement.
i had this still in plastic and opened it up a few month ago and some of the cover got torn off
didnt know it was worth anything 🙁
capitalism needs to be regulated with 10% fixed profits on all goods.
why you act like you dont know why the price is like that
is it autism
I opened one of these on video just to troll people, but I didn't ever put it up anywhere.
>lost my copy of SS, pearl, and platinum
>still have all 3 boxes complete with manuals
It hurts bros
Man you people really aren't going to like the all digital future. In 5 years most games are going to be like this.
???

I have a pokewalker that's never been used. How much coin would it sell for?
Is this just money laundering or legitimate super-autism?
its pokemon, so the latter

Real people do that for money laundering. morons aka latent billionaires do that to unironically earn money.
Pokemon games and sealed booster boxes are a better hedge against inflation than 401Ks, treasury bonds, IRAs, ETFs, and savings accounts. For whatever reason, out of all the speculative assets that popped during the Covid bubble, pokemon held strong and became basically a legitimate investment.
how come that youtube exposè on graded games by that aussie frick didnt destroy the industry of this?
Just because its listed doesn't mean it'll be sold. Keep in mind these morons would be holding like a 90%+ loss so they're probably begging some moron comes along so they can break even.
Does it not cost them a whole bunch of mony to keep them listed for insanely unrealistic prices for years and years?
Well deserved.
>a willing buyer and seller make a mutually beneficial transaction
It's their natural right as free men.
