It's a multiplat game published by a decently big publisher with actual marketing behind it.

its the fault of those who use commercial engines. Imagine writing extensions for an engine you don't own. LMAO if you're going to develop "propriety pipeline tools" make your own engine. A free engine is supposed to be TEMPORARY while your teams develops its own engine and tools.

you could just use gamemaker studio 1 for a game like demon turf.
anything with openGL rendering and a robust programming language will do.

well this was made in GMS1
GMS1 is a standalone program that will have no further updates. it's offline and preserveable.

GMS2 is a DRM subscription service and is worse in a lot of ways so I wouldn't trust that one.

If one game engine shoots itself in the foot another will take it's place. There are all sort of incentives to fill such a vaccuum and plenty of people that would be willing to step down on the accelerator to get the cash/time/coding/resources to be the first.

          Anonymous

the point is if an engine is a program it's safe.
you own whatever you make with it. and they can't fuck with it.

If an engine is a "service" that connects to a server, they can fuck with you, change shit around on you and do any kind of malicious shit they want. because technically it's not a product you purchased and not subject to the same consumer rights.

that's why every scummy company is trying to make 'services' instead of products. it allows you to violate peoples rights with what otherwise would egregiously illegal shit.

the movement and platforming is fine but the level design bounces between serviceable and actually painful and I think getting to the end required that you play some remixed levels that aren't improved much
