I'll say more, if anyone wants to here more...and if anyone wants to know more about me and what I'm potentially like to work with, I do have a website that I will only share if specifically asked to
Designing a Video Game that Glorifies God
This phonograph "reads" a rock’s rough surface and transforms it into beautiful ambient music pic.twitter.com/PYDzYsWWf8— Surreal Videos (@SurrealVideos) March 3, 2023
whoops...forgot to include this part... maybe the whole narrative of demons taking the forms of aliens could be a narrative, but to the player, it would look a lot more grounded than that....like in L O S T....there was a lot of sci-fi and supernatural stuff going on behind the scenes, but the way it was presented to the audience, it was more like soap-opera, horror movie- mystery thriller...at least for the first 3 seasons...so while what was behind the story had some wild hard to believe explanations....the grounded aesthetic and very gradual plot reveal is what sold it as authentic
like why would demons even need to do that? They can simply possess people or they could even form a body that looked like a human or whatever....WHY would a demon take the form of an alien? I think answering that question in a convincing way could provide for a good narrative
Share the site, i’ve been spitball a really good narrative for a game but the problem is i’m not passionate about the genre of game that best fits it, side scroller, vania like. I’d be willing putting in the time and effort to program and design but I have no passion for fighting or laying out enemies.
www.frankpetrucci.com but there's not much about video game design yet
I would have to do an rpg to implement all the plot twists I want...something manageable in terms of gameplay and graphics...so at most maybe 2.5 D like Octopath Traveler II. Full on 3D seems like there would be too many caveats and too much competition from AAA titles
Just make KCD2
I'm not a fan of medieval aesthetic... I like surreal, futuristic, sci-fi
How would that even work without being too shlocky?
The aesthetic would be subtle in terms of the elements I mentioned...I mean, I imagine the story taking place in the present or a very short time in the future...so like Cyberpunk was too obvious for me...Fallout was a little better in terms of being subtle on the sci fi. It's easier to think of movie and tv references. STRANGER THINGS...maybe? That does a lot of what I'm talking about
Make KCD 3000 then
The aesthetic of GHOST SONG was really inspiring to me...if i made a metrovania game, it would probably look a lot like that
Surprised to see this here on Ganker of all places. Based Pageau bros. enjoyer.
Im also willing to hire people who have skills, though I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to need yet....I'm still brainstorming the general concept...I'd probably need help with programming animations and stuff like that
could you give me the rough idea of how the story would play out?
maybe there are real aliens...and the demons are taking their form as imposters....so say an alien race is on their way here... the demons take their form before they get here, so that they can manipulate how we respond to their arrival
That just Gnosticism bro
So the devil is trying to ruin intergalactic relations and cause a war in heav-I mean among the stars?
That'd be cool
>you pray to restore your faith
>faith meter affects luck and defense
>sinning reduces it and also cap the meter
>confessing restore the max faith to the original levels
It's going to be like Dark Souls health meter but for stats....so if a boss kills you with an attack you were meant to fight instead of run away from, you will suffer losses to your bravery stat until recouped..and likewise for wisdom and getting killed by a spell...your wisdom stat would go down
Funny you mentioned Dark Souls because mortal sins cause spiritual death according to catholics.
Yes, in the sense that if someone is spiritually dead, it is because of mortal sin. However, not all mortal sins result in spiritual death, otherwise no living person today would go to heaven. All have sinned but not all go to hell - and going to hell is what catholics mean by "spiritual death"
How would you glorify God while still having demons be a threat to you?
Does God decide you aren't worthy of being protected by the purely evil demons he could erase from existence whenever he wants?
Even if a demon is not a threat to you, it can still be a threat to those you want to protect. And besides, a demon is a threat in terms of deception. God permits demonic attacks b/c by resisting them, we develop virtue and punish and humiliate the demon
If you want to be accurate to Christianity, demons would never be an actual threat. They can only influence people to do things; they cannot directly intervene in the world. Closest they can come is demonic possession
the absolute state of ideas guys
Ah, yes, the jealous hater....I am sure your creative ideas will blow mine away...can't wait to hear them... but i rather expect that instead I will just get more insecure jeering...share your superior creative idea or FUCK OFF
As far as the underlying theology that supports the game's story. That's not something that is open to debate. There are plenty of games out there already that make a mockery of Christianity and the ones who get it right have very poor execution and design. I am doing this right both by God and by the audience, even if it takes 10 years to complete.
The absolute state of someone who attacks a video game designer on a video game forum b/c they are a jealous hater with no fkn life
What scripture are you even basing your theology on?
You would do well to use the wisdom of God as the core of the story/art/gameplay than just the aesthetics like all other "Christian" games before. So many misses the whole point of God, they might as well have just used any other theme and it would still be the same game.
We need a style action game about Michael kicking Lucifer ass in the war on heaven.
>God's a jealous prick who murders everyone
>Envy is one of the seven deadly sins
>Murder is forbidden
